Chapter 11 How Many Papers Have You Passed?
Clarissa was not as fortunate as Damien.
When she was in primary school, her father and mother were both occupied with work. She had to
cook for herself and her disappointing brother. Back then, she could not even reach the stove and had
to step on a bench.
Clarissa learned how to make ravioli by the time she was in sixth grade. The steps were not foreign to
her.
Shortly after, she came out of the kitchen with a bowl of piping hot ravioli in tomato soup. It was placed
on the table. Damien’s grandfather was delighted. He felt like he had traveled back to the times when
his wife was still alive and ate happily.
Damien looked indifferent.
Clarissa kept sneaking glances at him. She wanted to see if her performance was sufficient for twenty
thousand dollars.
After eating, they watched the television for a while. As time passed, Clarissa felt more and more
nervous.
Around ten o’clock, Damien’s grandfather returned to his bedroom so he could rest.
“Let’s go to sleep,” Damien said after glancing at Clarissa.
“Okay.”
She followed him to his bedroom.
Damien’s bedroom was very spacious. It was double the size of Clarissa’s rental apartment. There was
an en suite, gym equipment, bookshelf, table, and a huge king-sized bed.
“You can use this bathroom. I’ll head to the one in the living room.”
After speaking, Damien took his pajamas from the closet and left. He did not care that Clarissa was
standing nervously in the bedroom.
Clarissa was like a puppet being controlled. She replied, “Okay.” Then, she took her pajamas and went
into the bathroom.
When she came out, Damien was already leaning against the bed. He was reading a book and took up
half of the bed’s space. The other half was obviously hers.
Damien wore silk pajamas of high quality while Clarissa’s was made of pure cotton. It did not match
Damien’s pajamas and even looked childish.
However, Damien did not even bother to look at Clarissa. He just kept reading his book.
Seeing that he was not intending to sleep anytime soon, Clarissa also took out a book titled, “The
Economic Law”, from her luggage.
She wanted to prepare for the certified public accountant exam.
Clarissa sneaked a glance at Damien. He looked like a man without worldly desires.
The previous incident happened because he was drunk. Now that he was sober, the same mistake
would most likely not occur. After all, Damien was a president. He had to take care of his employee’s
well-being.
While she was thinking nonsense, Damien asked, “Are you going to sit for the certified public
accountant exam?”
“Oh… Yes!”
“How many papers have you passed?” Damien was rarely in the mood for a conversation.
“I passed four papers and have two more left. There’s also the ethics paper. This time, I only registered
for one paper. Ever since I started working, I don’t have as much spare time. Moreover, I’m graduating
soon. There are a lot of things to do. Just taking one paper is safer. I’ve exhausted most of my energy Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
at work.”
Clarissa replied honestly. The underlying message was that she had been working hard at New East
Corporation.
“Aren’t you going to dry your hair with a blowdryer?” Damien noticed that her hair was still dripping wet
after taking a casual glance.
“Oh, I’ll do it later…”
Clarissa did not have the habit of blow-drying her hair.
Damien raised his hand and pointed his finger. It seemed like he was going to ask her to blow dry her
hair. At that moment, his phone rang.
Clarissa was sitting beside him. She could vaguely hear the other party. They were talking about the
fate of the company’s interns.
Her heart immediately beat rapidly.
“You can distribute the results to the whole company on Monday,” Damien replied with just a sentence
after the other party’s long-winded speech.
After Damien hung up the call, Clarissa licked her lips. She mustered her courage and asked,
“President Lawrence, did you talk about my status?”
