The betrayal; friend and foe
Lily
Getting home and grandma isn’t there, sleepy Jacek hung on my body with head laid on my shoulders. I took him to his room, laid him on the bed and tucked my sweet little child in. Watching him sleep gave me so much joy amid the venting anger going on inside me. The air in his room was so easy and peaceful; I wanted to be him for a second. My dream room would have a very light shade of grey as the wallpaper, a desk with a fuzzy chair, it would have a picture of me and Jacek and it would have a big closet with wallpaper with tulips, grey tulips, and my bed would have, it would be all the kinds of colours of grey mixed. And an extra big picture frame with a big drawing of Jacek’s and also it would have white and grey polka dots.
I thought about Jarod. I was disappointed in him, he hadn’t called to check on me all this while, so much for friendship! I felt like there was a possibility that he didn’t betray me; I guess we do feel that way when we desperately want to go back to that one friend that hurt us. But maybe, just maybe Cayden lied to get him out of the way. I know Jarod confessed but I maybe I got that wrongly; I mean, it’s possible? Making decisions at this point was irrational of me, I know that. I shouldn’t make any decisions while the head’s out, I should just take some time to chill and let the anger dissipate for a while… Nah, wasn’t working, I was angry and needed someone to pour it out to; so I called him.
The call kept going straight to voicemail, he didn’t want to take my call. How petty. I will just go over to his house and confront him because I’ve had enough of the childish behaviour.
I got over to his house and saw my classmates that contested with me at the competition and were mocking me, come out from Jarod’s house. I quickly found somewhere to hide. The anger in me doubled. “What the fuck is Jarrod doing with these guys?”
“Who’s out there?” Shit! One of them must’ve heard my voice. They conversed between themselves, arguing that it was nothing “bro, you’re just too chicken, it was nothing”
Luckily for me, a rabbit ran out very close to where I was; they saw it too
“See? Told you I heard something”
“Yea right, sure you must’ve thought it was “the conjuring” Or something” they all laughed. The one with the fear shook his head “whatever man” They entered their car and drove off. I felt pangs of betrayal and jealousy kick in.
I walked to the entrance of the door. I saw Jarod from afar, he had already spotted me but walked inside like he didn’t.
“Come on Jarod, I know you’ve seen me. Come open the door”
“Go away Lily, I don’t want to see you, talk to you, breathe the same air with you or stand in the same room as you”
“Now, you’re just reaching. That’s too much, just come open the door already. I don’t bite” No answer from him
“Jaaarrrrrrooooooodddd, I’m gonna sing your name out there for your whole neighbourhood to hear if you don’t come open this door right now, I’m not bluffing” Still no answer
“Alright then, let’s have an open mic right here with the rabbits and tadpoles” I heard the lock of his door unlock and the door opened
“Finally, it’s good to see you too” I rolled my eyes, waltzed inside and sat on the couch in his living room
“So, what the fuck were those losers doing here? I thought you weren’t close to them?” I asked while he stood in a corner, staring at me with a straight face that looked like it needed to breathe. If he was trying to scare me, it was not working.
“They asked me to be their chief baker for the competition” Every single word that came out of his mouth was without remorse. My countenance dropped and my heart froze for a second there. Is he being serious?
“Wait, what? They asked you?”
“Yea, they did. Are you surprised? Thought I’d never be a chief baker because I’ve always been in your shadow? Guess what? Someone thought me important and asked that of me. Too for you to handle?” I kept shaking my head in disagreement with all the questions stated above. But why is he being mean though? He’s the one that should be sorry, he betrayed me and almost cost me my carrier. I’m just here because I have a big heart. Such a jerk!
“I never saw you as anything less than I was. You were one of my most valuable assets. Can’t you remember that you were my right-hand man and manager? It wasn’t too long ago for you to forget now, come on”
He started laughing. I did feel like going for the throat and watching him choke for a while just to have my fun a little bit because what was funny? Why in the greatest hell was he laughing?
“You couldn’t have possibly said yes to them, right? Jarod, please tell me you didn’t throw away all our years of friendship and acceptance to deal with?”
“As a matter of fact Lily, I did” He walked towards me as he had just acquired all the power in the world; power he didn’t deserve. He had a devilish wide grin on his face. My eyes filled with tears.
“So, the next time you see me, I’ll be on the opposite side of the competition. You should also change your recipes because I know all of them and can use them to my advantage”Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
My heart was broken to a thousand pieces, my friend and best asset had betrayed me in my greatest time of need. How convenient!
