Serena found the table quite uncomfortable and so she slept on the couch in Damon’s office, smiling all the way as she did so, or at least that was what he had told her when she woke.

Damon watched her sleep, her mouth slightly open and her hair a beautiful red mess, she looked like a goddess even as she slept.

MINE… his heart constricted painfully.

Was he in love with her, is that the reason he was here right now watching her sleep and loving the way her lips curved in her sleep as if she was dreaming of something funny or the way he had been angry the previous day at her ridiculous attempt at seduction when she could have just talked to him about whatever. He was in love with her or at the very least, he cared a lot about her.

“now who is the creepy one?” Serena said asked with laughter in her voice as she opened her eyes and focused on Damon’s face

“I am merely paying back in your own coin for always watching me sleep.” Damon responded, brushing the strands of hair out of her face.

They stayed in that position looking at each other, both probably thinking the same thing. They were in love and no one wanted to talk about it or breach the topic. Serena knew he was scared, this was probably his first time being in love, hell it was her first time too but it was different for him, she understood and so even when what was at the tip of her tongue was to scream her love to him, she held her tongue in her cheek and only asked him how long she had been asleep.

“hasn’t been long, you smile in your sleep. Do you know that?”

“is that so? What was the dream about, wanna share?”

“I can’t tell you, it is too embarrassing. You only need to know that you were there and it was the most wonderful of dreams.”

“I will take your word for it then, you must be hungry. I will leave you freshen up and then we can get food somewhere around.”

“that’s fine, thank you” Serena smiled

Serena watched him leave, smiling at his retreating form. She wasn’t sure how she was feeling right now, only that her heart was filled to bursting and she was seeing Damon in a different light, he wasn’t the same person she had gotten married to. The ruthless and dangerous man that every woman had fucked and everyone was literally afraid of, he was different, softer and she could guess that it was probably because of her.

Damon walked quickly out of his office and down the hall before he would say the thing that was at the top of his tongue which was that he loved her and wanted them together as true husband and wife and not ones bound by a contract, he wanted her in very way and it did not matter that her father had given her up as a debt.

He was brought out of his thoughts by his phone ringing, it was Santos and this could only mean one thing.

“We have him, boss at the ninth warehouse.”

“Wait for me and do not take your eyes off him, he is a slippery sort.”

Damon walked back to his office for his car keys, Serena was already dressed and waiting but she could tell from his face that something serious had come up

“You have to work” she stated simply

“I’m sorry, I will make it up to you.”

“It’s alright, I will wait up for you at home.” She said, getting up and kissing him on the cheek.

“Wait, Serena” Damon called out again.

Serena turned and looked at him, he looked like he was battling between telling her what was on his mind and not bothering.

“We found your father” he said.

“I see” Serena responded, still waiting although her heart was pounding desperately in her chest.

“You said you could talk to him without me having to kill him?”

“Yes I can, he is my father, he would listen to me.”

“Let us hope you are right then.”

They both got into the car, Serena was elated but she could see that Damon was not happy taking her.

“I will be fine, I will just talk to him and we would out of there in no time to get your drugs.”

Damon nodded but he had other things in mind namely what the fuck he was doing taking the woman he loved to a danger zone.
