Chapter 27

Chapter 27 When Will You Return?

A week later, at the Cameron residence.

Olivia spoke to Maggie in a gentle voice, “Maggie, Sierra won first place in the international piano competition. We plan to hold a banquet to celebrate her achievement. However, as you know, the Herschire Cultural Center, which the government owns, is currently undergoing bidding. We plan to take this opportunity to showcase the Cameron family’s construction capabilities.”

Maggie was very cooperative and nodded. “Mom, don’t worry. I’ve heard about the Herschire Cultural Park project. If our family wins the bid, I will definitely do my best to design it.”

Upon hearing Maggie’s words, Olivia nodded in satisfaction.

Maggie smiled, seeming to look forward to it as well.

The Cameron family’s main focus was on construction, but they were also involved in some related real estate and hotel industries. The Camerons had always been ambitious, planning to enter the clothing and jewelry industries in recent years.

However, no matter how much the business expanded, the Camerons always prioritized the construction industry. Unfortunately, the entire construction industry had been in a slump in recent years. In contrast, the Adam family’s main business, the jewelry industry, was thriving. This made the Camerons, who originally saw the Adams as rivals, even more upset.

Coincidentally, Maggie had always been interested in jewelry design and fashion design. However, because she was adopted by the Camerons, she chose architectural design in college.

Perhaps because they were both design–related, there were always similarities.

She was grateful for the Camerons‘ generosity and efforts, so she worked extremely hard. She graduated from the most prestigious architecture program in the country and won several domestic and

international architectural design competitions. She was considered a rising star in the industry with some fame.

Now, the Cameron family’s designers were declining in skill. After experiencing the success of Maggie’s designs, they had high expectations for her.

Olivia looked at Maggie as if she had more to say.

Maggie affectionately held her arm and said softly, “Mom, is there something else you want to say?”

Olivia said softly, “I really shouldn’t be asking this, but you know the financial difficulties the Camerons are facing. So, I was thinking, could you try to invite Mr. Harris to the banquet tomorrow….

“If Mr. Harris attends, others will think that our two families have some connections. I believe many collaborations will be easier to discuss.”

Maggie looked at her, smirking, but she didn’t say anything-she didnt sa

Olivia felt a little uncomfortable under her gaze. But when she looked again, she saw Maggie’s understanding expression, which was devoid of the previous mockery

“Mom, if I could, I would like to invite him to help our family out. But after what happened at the hotel, Nathael will not only deny it, but also think we were scheming against him. He won’t come.”

Hearing this, Olivia was somewhat disappointed.

In fact, the reason to invite Nathael was not for anything else, but purely to raise the status of her daughter, Sierra.

After all, the banquet tomorrow was held in Sierra’s name. If Nathael could grace them with his presence, others would definitely pay more attention to her daughter in the future. What if… what if Nathael liked. girls like Sierra, then not only Sierra, but the Camerons would also rise to the top.

Olivia knew that the possibility was slim, but there was no mother who didn’t hope for her children to succeed.

Maggie saw through Olivia’s calculations and couldn’t help but smile bitterly.

Yes, if it weren’t for Olivia’s reminder, she might have forgotten about this episode.

In her previous life, Olivia had made the same request, and even though she despised Nathael, she had agreed out of ‘knowing the big picture.

At her invitation, Nathael arrived late, but he did come. Sierra fell in love with him at first sight and from then on, she hated Maggie, who was constantly entangled with Nathael.

“Ah, you’re right. I was just desperate. I shouldn’t have made such a request, and it would only hurt you in the end,” Olivia said guiltily.

“Mom, I understand your concerns.”

Seeing that she wasn’t overthinking, Olivia sighed and changed the subject, “What’s going on with you and Joseph? He’s been in a bad mood since he came back last time. Did you two have a fight?”

Maggie said softly, “Mom, he and I are not compatible. Instead of being caught up in ambiguity, it’s better. to clarify things. At least we can still maintain our familial bond. Otherwise, I’m afraid that if we continue like this, it will lead to a falling out. I don’t want to put you and dad in a difficult position.”

Upon hearing this, Olivia was secretly shocked.

After all, Maggie and Joseph had grown up together, and their relationship had always been good. Moreover, over the years, they had all witnessed her affection and dedication to her son.

But now…

Olivia never expected that Maggie would suddenly let go.

Without the connection of Joseph, relying solely on the Camerons‘ kindness, Olivia wasn’t sure how long Maggie would continue to work hard for the Camerons,.

“What… what’s going on? Weren’t you and Joseph always close?” Olivia tentatively asked, while carefully observing Morrie’s eynnection.

Maggie gave a bitter smile. “Mom, what’s between him and me might not be love at all. Now that we’ve grown up, we naturally have our own lives. Besides, he has someone he likes. I shouldn’t interfere with his happiness.”

“Someone he likes? Isn’t his favorite person you?” Olivia frowned and asked again.

Maggie shook her head and didn’t say more.

There was no point in saying more. After all, she wouldn’t have wanted to tarnish Joseph’s image in the past. As for his affair with Vanessa, let them discover it themselves.

“Don’t rush into anything. There might be some misunderstanding. I’ll talk to him later.” Olivia patted Maggie’s hand, her mind filled with worries.

After leaving the Camerons, the smile on Maggie’s face faded. Her beautiful and cold eyes showed no sign of hurt or resentment. but rather a chilling frostiness.

If they could play games, so could she.

Anyone can be an innocent girl on the outside but a bad b*tch on the inside.

When she arrived home. Maggie took a bath, but Olivia’s words kept replaying in her mind.

Unable to calm herself, she messaged Nathael; ‘Mr. Harris, where are you?”

The message was a bit sudden, but by the time she realized it was inappropriate, it had already been sent.

Maggie held her phone, leaning against the sofa with a sense of unease in her heart.

She didn’t have to wait long. A few seconds later, Nathael’s call came through.

Maggie was surprised, then she answered, “Mr. Harris.”

“I’m currently in Ecroabar.” His voice was soft and pleasant, inexplicably comforting-

Maggie’s heart raced. She couldn’t explain why, but it felt as if this phone call had immersed her heart in a jar of honey, creating threads of sweetness that made her smile involuntarily.

She glanced at the watch in her hand and asked earnestly, “You left your watch here. When… when will you. be returning?”
