Chapter 54
Chapter 54
"You look so happy. Eat slowly, will you?"
Marlene nervously patted Scarlet's back.
It took Scarlet a long time to recover.
"Are you sure I look happy now, Grandma? If you did this, Lenny would just hate me more. Why didn't
you tell me in advance? Even if I agree, I'm sure Lenny won't."
"Don't worry. He has agreed."
Scarlet was drinking water to chase down the food that was stuck in her throat. Upon hearing what
Marlene said, she choked on the water and spat it out, attracting many people's attention.
"He... He... He agreed? Then he is out of his mind. How could he agree to such a request?"
"Because I have promised him that if you two still don't develop feelings for each other after three
months, then I will give up. I won't try to get you back together anymore, and I'll allow Rosaline to marry
into the Foster family.
My dear, don't you want me to stay out of your business forever? If you and Lenny don't come to like
each other in that time, then you'll have my silence on the matter. Otherwise, I won't rest in peace after
I die. It's up to you."
"But Grandma, I..."
Before Scarlet could finish her sentence, Marlene began to cough violently.
Standing next to them, Hamlin quickly handed a few pills to Marlene. Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
"What's wrong with you, Grandma? You're scaring me."
"Mrs. Foster's condition is getting worse. The doctor said that she probably wouldn't make it through
this winter." Hamlin spoke with a serious look.
"This is probably my last wish, Scarlet. Do you really want me to die with regret?"
Marlene looked at Scarlet with expectation.
The old lady's words rang in her mind. Die with regret...
Those three words were like knives stabbing into Scarlet's heart.
She had already treated Marlene as her family. How could she bear to let her die with regret?
"Okay, Grandma. I'll do as you wish," Scarlet responded with difficulty.
"You really are a good girl, Scarlet. I'm tired now. I'm going to go and rest."
Then, Hamlin helped Marlene leave.
"Hamlin, is my acting good?" Marlene asked naughtily in a low voice.
"If you want my honest opinion, Mrs. Foster, your acting sucks. You're supposed to be old and wise, yet
you played such childish tricks and even cursed yourself. What were you thinking? Scarlet is innocent
and kind, so she bought your ruse. If you put that kind of act in front of Lenny, he won't believe it."
"It's fine as long as Scarlet believes it. Alas, I hope that their relationship can mend and blossom. I
really want them to end up together."
"Love can't be forced."
"Agreed, but fate still has a hand in love, and we're free to influence it to get the outcome we want."
Sitting on the chair, Scarlet couldn't calm down.
She finally understood the times when Lenny would look at her in a strange way.
He had already agreed to his grandmother's request in order to marry Rosaline.
He must hate her to the core now. He must think that she had convinced Marlene to make that request
on her behalf.
She touched her belly and knitted her brows. "What are we going to do now, my baby? I really don't
want to disturb his life. And this arrangement is against my will.
I'm afraid that he will find out about my pregnancy and not allow me to give birth to you. What do I do
then?"
Scarlet's heart sank.
After the wedding, she was exhausted.
While she was waiting for a cab to ride home, Lenny's car stopped in front of her.
"The three months of living together begins today," Lenny said coldly.
Scarlet pursed her lips and looked back at Marlene. The old lady kept waving and urging her to get in
the car.
Left with no other choice, she heaved a big sigh, squared her shoulders, and got in the car.
The atmosphere in the car was cold.
She felt it necessary to say something to break the awkward silence.
"Just so you know, I had nothing to do with this. I didn't ask Grandma to do this."
Lenny didn't respond.
Suddenly, an idea occurred to her.
"As you know, I only have Mr. Smith in my heart. How could I ask Grandma to do something like this?"
A muscle flickered in Lenny's jaw.
