Lenny and Scarlett

Chapter 22

Chapter 22

Deep in his heart, Lenny felt depressed.

It seemed that Scarlet was having a really bad day.

As the elevator went down, all Scarlet could think about was going home, crawling under the sheets,

and crying herself to sleep.

Today was definitely an unlucky day for her.

At this moment, she felt someone reach into her pocket. Her phone was being stolen! There was a thief

in the elevator!

Scarlet thought that her day was just getting worse and worse.

She threw her box down angrily and grabbed the thief's hand. "What are you doing? Have you no

shame?" she snapped.

The thief didn't expect that the woman whose phone he was going to steal was a hot-tempered one.

The elevator doors suddenly whirred open, and the thief shoved Scarlet away and made a run for it.

Caught off guard, Scarlet fell backward, but instead of hitting the cold elevator wall, she came down to

a strong, warm embrace.

It was only then that she noticed that Lenny and Drake were in the elevator as well.

Without really thinking about it, Lenny caught Scarlet when the thief pushed her away. He frowned and

narrowed his eyes.

"Drake."

Drake immediately understood and followed the thief out, carrying out Lenny's silent order to catch him

and then teach him a lesson.

The other people in the elevator also left one after another. Finally, Scarlet was left alone with Lenny.

When she met his eyes, she quickly broke out of his grip, squatted down, and picked up her things. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

Being a gentleman, Lenny helped her and then saw her dismissal letter. She was fired for allegedly

stealing a silk scarf that belonged to a customer.

After seeing the letter, Lenny looked at Scarlet and asked, "What happened?"

At the moment, Scarlet felt so deeply wronged that she didn't care anymore who heard about the

miserable day that she had been having. Whether it was to Lenny or to any other stranger, she would

air her grievance without hesitation.

It wasn't her fault at all.

"This noon, my superior, Dina, asked me to bring a dress to a client. When the client opened the box,

she looked for a silk scarf that was supposed to be there with the dress. Dina didn't tell me anything

about a silk scarf, but she insisted that I stole it.

I wanted us to go to the police station so that we could open an investigation, but she refused. She said

she'd just pay for the scarf and let me go. After that, she asked me to pack my stuff and leave. But I

didn't steal anything. I didn't see a silk scarf inside that box before I brought it to the client.

I didn't do it, but they wouldn't listen to my explanation. I tried my best to defend myself, but it was

useless..."

Tears started rolling down Scarlet's face. She picked up her box and stood up.

Lenny noticed the bruises on her knees.

"This is the real world, Scarlet. You can't expect people to just take your word for everything. You have

to have proof. Without any shred of evidence that proves your innocence, no one will believe you,

especially in an office full of people that don't trust you."

What Lenny said was true, but it wasn't what Scarlet needed at the moment. What she needed was

comfort, not a reality check.

After hearing what he said, she only cried even harder.

"If... If you're not going to comfort me, then just shut up, okay?" Scarlet whimpered.

"I'm just telling the truth." Lenny frowned, feeling helpless and at a loss.

He didn't expect she would cry so hard this time. She had been misunderstood last time, and she had

even stabbed herself while trying to prove her innocence, but she had never cried like this.

It seemed that everyone truly had been unfair to her.

Maybe he should comfort her in a gentler way.

At this time, the elevator arrived at the ground floor. Scarlet lifted the box of her things and walked out.

Lenny followed her. Since she was injured, she couldn't walk fast at all, and he was able to catch up

with her right away. It was a hot afternoon, so Lenny figured that he could save her from the heat and

give her a ride home.

"Come on. I'll drive you home."

Scarlet ignored him, but he didn't need her approval. He grabbed her box and stuffed it inside his car.

She had no choice but to get in the car and let him take her home. Lenny drove to the villa he gave

Scarlet after their divorce.

When they arrived, Scarlet got out of the car and waited for Lenny to disappear from view. Then, she

took a bus to her small apartment.

When she got home, she went straight to bed and slept away all her negative emotions.

The first thing that Lenny did after he came back was to ask Drake to investigate the whole thing.

There was no surveillance camera in the office, so Scarlet couldn't prove that when Dina handed the

box to her, the silk scarf was already gone.

But there were surveillance cameras in the corridors and in the underground garage.

Finally, Lenny found the surveillance footage showing Dina sitting in her car. She opened the box and

took out the silk scarf. She put the scarf around her neck and looked at herself in the rearview mirror

excitedly.

The truth had come to light!

Soon, the police got in touch with Scarlet. She was stunned.
