Chapter 70
Chapter 70
"I have prepared it," Kendall answered. "I have had the present for Miss Zorn ready a long time ago."
Adam nodded at that. "The Zorn Family is second only to the Coleman Family in terms of wealth in Orapolis. They are on the same level as the Mendelson Family. The men from the Zorns have always been more dominant than the women, which is why Miss Zorn has been spoiled to the point where she is somewhat arrogant. Make sure to not engage too much with her when you go to the banquet with Kelly. Try to stay away if you can."
"Got it, Daddy."
"Also, participate in more corporate and charity events in the future. Not only are you now the young mistress of the Coleman Family, you will be taking over the Parker Corporation in the future. You will need to socialize and make more friends. This will only benefit you on the road ahead."
"Thank you for your reminder, Daddy. I will do that."
However, even if Kendall wanted to make friends, others wouldn't necessarily have the same intentions as her.
It had been a year since her return to the Parker Family, and Amelia seemed to be the only person who treated her like a friend would.
Amelia had told Kendall that she would be back within the next two days.
She would also be attending Yasmine's birthday banquet.
"I hope that you and Kelly will still treat each other like sisters. She has already built her reputation and connections from all the time she spent going around handling businesses with me. She naturally has influence in the company as well."
If only Adam hadn't found out that his daughter had been swapped, he would have already been in the middle of arranging his own retirement from the company.
He continued with a stern expression on his face, "It will be your debut in the company. Even if I am the one who will be supervising you, there are plenty of higher ups in the company who will be keeping an eye on you. They might even pick on you. Kelly will protect you if you are close with her. Kendall, do you understand why I am telling you this?"
Needless to say, she understood it all-too-well.
Her father was telling her to not get on Kelly's bad side before Kendall could stand on her own feet and was capable of taking over the company. Or else, the latter could easily be kicked out of the company if Kelly decided to work with the higher ups to drive her out.
The Parker Corporation might be their family business, but Adam couldn't possibly go against so many members of the board for Kendall alone.
"I understand, Daddy," she obediently answered.
However, was Kelly really going to help her without any tricks up her sleeve if Kendall had pretended to be on good terms with her?
She knew how impossible it was!
Kelly had always had her eyes on the Parker Corporation.
She couldn't possibly watch Kendall slowly climb her way up until the day she had what it took to run the company.
In Dylan's words, it didn't matter if Kendall wanted the company or not. As long as she was Adam's biological daughter, Kelly was going to treat her like an enemy no matter what.
That was why she knew there was no point in trying to appease Kelly.
Adam knew that his daughter was not stupid. Her living environment in the past was the reason her vision was not as broad as Kelly's.
"You promised your mother that you will be home for lunch with her. It is getting late. Why don't you head back now?" Adam took a glance at his wristwatch. "It is about time I go meet my client as well."
Kendall hummed in response. "Can I start learning by your side starting tomorrow, Daddy? I will officially start working next Monday."
Thinking about how Kelly would be at the hospital these few days to take care of her biological mother, Adam nodded in agreement and said, "Sure. Come to the company tomorrow. I will teach you a thing or two about business. But still, you shouldn't neglect Master Dylan."
Of course Kendall wouldn't dare do that to her husband.
"Alright, Daddy, you can get busy now. I am heading home to have lunch with Mommy."
After their conversation ended, they walked out of the president's office together.
She didn't drive her own car, and her driver happened to have returned to the residence already. Not wanting to let Adam know that she had had a meeting with Frank, she could only lie to her father that she was waiting for her driver to come back and pick her up.
She only stopped a taxi after she saw her father's car drive off from the company and disappear into the distance.
After she got into the taxi, the driver asked, "Where to, Miss?"
"Take me… Take me to Coleman Empire Holdings."
Suddenly changing her plans, she decided to first head to Coleman Empire Holdings to coax her angry husband, and later go home to have lunch with her mother.
There was still time until lunch, anyway.
"Alright," the driver said.
As it was necessary to pass by Coleman Empire Holdings, which was in the middle of the journey both to and from the Parker Corporation, it only took a short time for her to reach her destination.
Kendall paid the fees, got out of the car, and stood in front of the entrance as she took in the 68-storey office building.
Her family's company couldn't even compete with the magnificence of the Coleman Empire Holdings.
The Coleman Empire Holdings was not a place that unauthorized people could enter as they pleased. Hence, it was utter nonsense to the security guard on duty when Kendall approached him and told him that she wanted to meet Dylan despite not having an appointment.
"Our president is a busy man. Not only can't you meet our president, you can't even go in without an appointment. I will have to ask you to leave, Ms. Parker," the guard respectfully denied her entry.
"I know how busy Dylan is, but I have an emergency situation that I need to see him for. A really, really urgent emergency. Please inform him that Kendall Parker is here to see him. He will definitely meet me after he knows that it is me."
That was why she knew there was no point in trying to appease Kelly.
Kendall Parker?
As in the golden child of the Parker Family who was switched?
The guard remembered how there was a case of a supposed betrothal between Dylan and Kendall.
Even though the engagement didn't come to fruition, the news had been so widespread that a majority of the employees at the Coleman Empire Holdings had come to know about it.
The guard then went and reported this to the head of the security department. After his supervisor gave it a thought, he didn't deny her, and instead informed the office about Kendall's arrival.
It finally reached Dylan's assistant after going through different personnel of the company.
Since Kendall had requested for a meetup, the assistant could only brace herself as she pressed a button on the intercom to make a call to Dylan.
"President, the second daughter of the Parker Family wants to see you. She is currently at the company's entrance," she immediately announced as soon as she heard Dylan's cold voice after he picked up the phone. Upon hearing that, the man frowned.
He couldn't believe Kendall had actually come to his company.
He started debating whether or not he should make time to see her.
"President?" the secretary gingerly called out again after not hearing any reply coming from her boss. Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
"Let her in."
He swiftly cut the call after he said that. He was worried he would have a change of mind if he was another second late at answering.
This was the first time Kendall had entered the Coleman Empire Holdings after having lived twice.
It was no wonder they were the top organization in Orapolis. Everyone who led her all the way to the office were extremely polite to her from the moment she stepped into the building. It even started
making her nervous at some point.
It took her a few minutes to finally reach the top floor.
When she did, the secretary was the one who came and greeted her. "Good afternoon, Ms. Parker. I am President Coleman's secretary, Emma Finley."
"Nice to meet you, Ms. Finley."
"The president is waiting for you in his office. Please follow me, Ms. Parker."
"Thank you, Ms. Finley."
Kendall started walking with Emma as she gave her thanks.
The office building took up an enormous area. Except for the top floor, the other floors were bustling with employees that worked for the company. The top floor, however, was especially quiet as it was a workspace for only Dylan and Emma.
The clear sounds of the secretary's high heels against the floor seemed to reverberate across the quiet space.
Now that they were both standing outside the president's office, Emma brought her hand up and knocked on the door. About a minute later, she pushed the door open and told Kendall, "Please give me a moment, Ms. Parker."
Kendall nodded without saying a word.
Emma then made her way into the office, where Kendall could hear the conversation between her and Dylan that ensued.
