Lettie’s POV

I huff loudly, reading the right text messages and two missed calls I find from Alex on my phone as we finish up our second cheer practice of the day- leading us into lunch.

He knows that I’m at school what the hell!

I begin to type up a response, before an incoming call rings through – as if on command with Alex’s name appearing in large letters on the screen.

“Hey!” I answer immediately, knowing he would no doubt drive out here if I ignored him any longer.

“Lottie, where are you? Can you not reply to a text?!” His tone is snappy, as I hold a finger up to Anna who laughs and waits for me to deal with him.

“You know where I am I’m at school? 1 just finished practice, I’m about to head out to grab lunch with Anna.” 1 comment bluntly, before hearing chatter in the background of his call.

He must be at the office….

this morning to at least test me? You can’t just not respond for hours Lottie! I’m too worried about you to put up with that shit!” He complains, keeping his tone low as I feel like a child being scolded.

“I didn’t have a minute to text Alex. I was catching up with Anna and then we went straight in to cheer! I’m ok, everything is ok, you have to trust me sometimes!” I retort, hearing him mutter

something under his breath in frustration.

Trust you? That’s a fine line these days doll when you just recently ran off to Miami on me! All I ask is that you text me more often!” Alex states, leaving no further room for argument as I sigh at his stubbornness,

“Fine, ok I will. Once I have my class timetable I can tell you when I’ll be busy during school. That way if I don’t respond, you’ll know why.” I compromise, as the line falls silent for a moment.

“That sounds better! Are you still wearing that crappy outfit too? Has anyone bothered you today?” Alex pushes, also smirks

Of course I still wore it… it was both cute and comfy! That’s probably another factor as to why he’s acting wildly overprotective today!

“It’s not a crappy outfit! It’s pretty cute actually! But yes I am still wearing it and no, nobody has bothered me today.” I roll my eyes, as Anna chuckles and helps me to pack up my bag.

“Too cute for damn school anyhow! Especially when I’m not there doll Alex remarks, before I hear a man in the background shouting out something to him…

“Listen, I have to go and handle another call right now, but text me or I turn up there during your class Lottie and I’m not joking!” Alex warns, as I smile at his bad boy demeanour.

He doesn’t scare me these days… sure I don’t doubt for a moment that he would actually turn up here if I ignored him long enough… but I can handle his tempers these days.

“Oh, I’m not scared, Alex,” I tease, making sure that my tone is playful. But I promise I’ll text you more often, just to save you the trouble of making dramatic appearances during my classes. Anna sniggers beside me, and I give her a wink.

“Good, that’s what I want to hear,” Alex responds, his voice softening a little. “I just worry about you, Lottie. You mean the world to me, and I can’t help but want to protect you all the time…” He adds, his voice low Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g

*I know, Alex, and I appreciate that. But you also have to trust that I can handle myself sometimes, I’m safe at school!” I assure him, feeling the warmth of his concem despite his tough exterior.

“Alright, alright, Ill talk to you later remember I’m picking you up today too! I’ll be out front at three.” He concludes, sounding a bit defeated but also

relieved.

“Ok I’ll see you then! I better go grab some lunch before it ends! Bye Alex, I love you,” I haul my bag over my y shoulder and begin to leave, hearing his

“key hasn’t stopped giving me shit since that trip either! They just make me want to do it all over again!” Anna suddenly states, as I gasp loudly at her retaliation.

We couldn’t! They would demolish us!

“Anna they will damn well kill us if we do that to them again!” I state firmly, as she waves me off– continuing to laugh.

“Girl, chill out! I’m only kidding! We would be mad to disappear again, especially so soon after the first trip! Alex would have his people sniff us out and drag us back here quicker than our plane could land!” Anna blurts out, sending us both falling into laughing fits.

The funniest part is, he seriously would go total CSI mode on us.

We order our lunch and spend the last of our time sitting on the bleachers overlooking the football field. Memories come flooding back to the first time I met Alex… right in this very spot.

How has it been over a year already since I turned up in this town? A broken, scared and lonely girl. Now look at me!

Gossiping with Anna was a true earned luxury… something every teenage girl should be entitled to do… something I had sadly missed out on my whole life before moving here due to having no friends.

This felt normal.

“Yeah they haven’t been close ever since Tiffany slept with Brianna’s sex partner!” Anna shorts, as 1 giggle too and look around to ensure that nobody could hear our rambling.

“Her sex partner!” I giggle, taking note of Anna’s hilarious word choice as she shrugs and laughs.

“Well Dean wasn’t exactly her boyfriend now was he?! I think Brianna is still madly obsessed with Jace – she always asks me about him and if he will be coming to the next game to watch!” Anna throws her head back at the sudden memory with a groan,

This time last year, Brianna would have sold her organs just for a date with

th face: Heck! That’s the very reason we even made it on the cheer squad thanks to his flirting!

Dean however, was another jack, someone who liked to fuck around with Brianna whenever it suited him at a party or such… that was until Brianna caught him with Tiffany – her so called best– friend“.

“I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since we made the squad!” Anna smiles in thought, as I can’t help but hold back my own smile.

To think I didn’t actually want to try out at first too! Yet here I am, loving every practice and performance! Anything cheer related at all!

The school bell rings, signalling that lunch was now over, as we both groan slightly and stand from the bleachers…

I grab my book hag, knowing that I had English next, before gasping in remembrance – I have to text Alex before I go into class or he will freak again!

I pull out my iPhone, following behind Anna as she guides us through the busy hallways towards the English comdor…

Heading to English now! I almost forgot to text you again – sorry lol! I get so caught up with cheer practice and my talks with Anna, I seriously don’t mean to ignore you! Anyhow, you know that I’m safe so don’t freak out if I don’t answer–Ill see you at 3pm – love you x‘

I stuff my phone into my bag, ensuring to turn it on silent before entering the class, I find my seat with Anna at the hack, before the teacher enter shortly after – ready to start the lesson.

School wasn’t all bad, considering that I was able to cheer through a lot of it, but when it comes down to my academic classes… I couldn’t help but become distracted by thoughts of Alex or my conversations with Anna…

All that matters though, is that I’m free, I’m happy and I’m living the life of a normal girl unlike before!
