Chapter 30
Sofia
Andrew
I can't sleep. No matter how much I try to.
'Come on, Sofia! This isn't the first time you shared a roof with that guy! You've slept in the room next to him for five years, and this is just like that.'
But of course, he doesn't look at me like water in a desert and kiss me like there's no tomorrow.
I kicked my feet in the air in frustration. "I need to calm down. Better make some tea," I told myself, and I quietly went to the kitchen to make some tea. "I wonder if he's comfortable. Okay, stop it, Sofia! Go to the kitchen; make some tea so you can sleep." I muttered to myself like a crazy person.
When I'm done and on my way back to my room, I see him in the dining area while looking out the window, and I almost drop my tea.
"God, you scared me. What are you doing standing there like a ghost?!" I exclaimed and calmed my heart.
"I'm just admiring the view. It's beautiful," he replied when he turned to look at me.
I nodded with a small smile. "Yes. That is the reason why I bought this apartment."
"You have a good taste."
"Oh, I know." He looked at me with humor in his eyes, and I stopped myself from laughing. "Can't you sleep? Or did you choose the couch?"
He chuckled and moved so he was facing me. "The room isn't bad. It smells like Amelia, but it's fine."
"Do you want some tea so you can sleep?" I offered and held up the cup.
"Can't you sleep, Sofia? Is something bothering you?" He asked me, and I saw the familiar eyes I'd been looking at for five years. Eyes filled with coldness, pain, and hatred.
My smile dropped. "I could ask you the same."
"The doubts are preventing me from sleeping, and what's worse is that I'm not sure who I should believe." He's now looking at me with eyes I couldn't quite read.
"What is your heart saying? Your instinct? I always listen to mine because they haven't failed me."
"Hasn't it ever let you down?"
I shook my head in reply. "You are a businessman who uses your intelligence and instinct. Everything in life is based on that."
He turned back to the view as if his mind had gone somewhere. I decided to leave him alone before we ruined the night.
"I took her virginity." I paused when I heard that and looked at him, pain reflecting on my face. I knew that, but it still hurts. "And I don't even remember doing it."
"How can you not remember? Who are you talking about?"
Really, Sofia? Are you even asking?
He looked at me and sat on the chair that was still facing the view. "I was hurt that night, so I ended up drinking too much. I woke up naked the next day in a wrecked room, and she was looking at me when she told me it was her first time. I felt like the biggest a*****e for stealing her innocence that I can't even remember."
I took a deep breath before sitting beside him. "Why were you hurt? What made you drink so much?"
He took my cup and took a sip as if tasting it first. "That isn't important. What I did was more important. When you told me that she wasn't what I thought she was and I let her fool me, I thought there was a possibility that nothing happened, but Amelia told me she saw us kissing, so... it could have happened. Furthermore, the child is a proof of that."
"That doesn't mean anything," I said, and he looked annoyed. "I am talking about the kiss. You kissed other women, but you did not sleep with them."
"I kissed you." That wasn't a question but a statement.
""No, you never did."
He looked at me doubtfully. I lied because he would not believe me if I were to tell him that he kissed me at the party and graduation.
"Are you sure?" He asked me with a hint of doubt in his voice.
I nodded in confirmation. "You went to parties with females and drinks, and you've always drunk with caution. I haven't seen you drunk until that party."
I remember the night of the final game for the national team. I was so happy because they won, and I decided to go to that party to congratulate him and tell him what I felt.
Kevin was pestering me the whole night, so I finally got enough and locked myself in a room. When I went out, I started to look for Angel, only to see him kissing Elisa. My heart was torn into pieces, and all I decided to do was drown myself in liquor to ease the pain.
Angel finally found me in the kitchen and took the drink from me. It was the first time he glared at me in anger and called me a flirt, but then he kissed me. A passionate kiss made me realize that my heart belongs to him. We were both drunk and...
Angel's voice brought me back to reality. "Sofia, you spaced out. What are you thinking about?"
"You said it was a party, right? When was it?"
"The final game," he answered, and my heart skipped a beat. "What is it?"
"Nothing. If you don't remember anything, then you should make sure that what she said really happened, and even if it did, I don't think you took her virginity."
I am annoyed that he still thinks of Elisa as a saint when I see her making out with Kevin, and Amelia sees her with Gerald in the middle of her acting.
"Sofia, Elisa got pregnant."
"It doesn't mean that it's yours."
"Sofia!"
"Listen, Angel, I know you're hurt, and I can see it in your eyes, but I swear that she isn't a saint. Just think a little; she told you I set you up to leave her for me, that I hurt the baby." I saw him flinched at the mention of the baby and knew it was a sensitive topic for him. "But she told you to marry me for your family, and she came back when you had it all. Who in their right mind will push the man they love to marry the woman she's accusing of killing her own child?"
I know he's getting confused, but I remember her words in my office. Angel is so blind not to see how fake she is.
"Angel, what if I told you that I saw her with another while you were with her? Would you believe me?"
His eyes narrowed and were filled with doubt. "If that's the case, why didn't you tell me back then?"
I knew he wouldn't believe me.
"Because I don't meddle with things where I'm not needed. You ignored me; you wouldn't talk to me, so how can I say it? Besides, I thought it wasn't serious until you started dating after a few weeks, and I thought you really liked her."
"You still should have done it, and now I'm in this mess. I believed I had a baby for five years, and now you're telling me about the things I have doubts about. I want to believe you, Sofia, but you lied to me."
"I did not lie to you; why are you saying that?"
"No? You are the owner of Lee Andrew's; you went out with Isaac, and you told me we didn't kiss."
"That isn't fair. You also didn't tell me about Autos-Let; you weren't honest with your visit to Let-Tech. I told you Isaac and I are not dating, and the kiss... I don't know what you mean."
"Sofia, we are filled with so much mess that it's driving me insane."
"You're not the only one in this mess, but we haven't really talked, Angel. We always listen to other people, and we ruin ourselves by overthinking."
"I kissed you that night at the graduation party. You told me I didn't, but I did," he pointed out, and I avoided his eyes.
"I didn't think you remembered that."
"So it's true that it wasn't a dream. Why did you deny it? Why are you lying to me? How can I possibly believe you, Sofia?"
"I lied because you can't remember that night. You kissed me because you thought I was Elisa, and you don't believe in anything I say anyway," I told him with bitterness in my voice.
"Who told you I didn't believe you?" What he said stunned me. "I need to know the truth, Sofia. For the both of us, but don't lie to me. Don't doubt me."
"So let's talk about it. What did I tell her that caused her to miscarry? What did I do to force you to marry me?"
"No!" He suddenly raised his voice, and it surprised me. "One thing at a time. Let me first find out things about Elisa."NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
"Not when I'm affected."
"You want to know?" He asked, and I nodded my head. "She showed me the pictures where we are in compromising positions, and another is a picture of us kissing." My eyes widened at that. "She told me that you went to see her and showed her the pictures, and you told her I don't love her anymore, that I was only playing with her and did not care about the baby, and that I was going to marry you even if I refused."
"I didn't see her, and I did not say or do those things," I said firmly while looking straight into his eyes.
"When she saw the pictures and heard everything you said, her stomach hurt and she started to bleed. She told me she asked for your help, but you hurt her and told her that the child wouldn't be born because it hindered your plan. You stayed and laughed at her pain."
That woman is a monster and deserves an award for her acting. I am not surprised Angel is angry and hates me, because I will be too.
"And you believed her just like that? Without talking to me first? Did you really think I could do those things?"
"No, I did not believe until..."
"Until?"
His jaw clenched, but he did not answer.
"Angel, for the love of God! I swear I didn't do anything, and if you don't believe me, then I can't do anything about it."
Tears started to fall because of anger, frustration, hurt, and many more, and I couldn't stop them.
"Don't cry." He hugged me from behind, and I could feel his breath on my neck. "I will find out the truth, and if she lied, she won't live. I'll make her pay, but if you did, Sofia..."
I angrily removed his arms from around me. "I am not lying to you!"
"Okay, okay. Just don't cry," he said in a calm voice and smiled. I swear, he needs to get his brain checked. "I like you more when you're shouting at me or challenging me." "Angel, I insist, you need to visit a doctor."
"I'm going to consider that," he replied, hugging me again. "Why don't you make another? It's cold."
He placed his chin on my left shoulder. "Oh, Sofia, what will we do?"
"First, tea; second, sleep; and third, fix all this mess."
"I think that's a good plan." I stood up and moved, but he stopped me. "Sofia, no more lies, okay?"
"The same applies to you. No more lies, and we'll try to fix this in the right way."
"Good."
That witch will pay for her lies, and she has no idea who she messed with.
