Chapter 22
Sofia
Andrew
It's been two years since Angel kissed me, even though it only felt like a minute. He's such an a*****e; why did he have to do that?
"Sofia," Diether called me as soon as he entered my office. "I brought the design for you to see. Angel told me he would show it to you once it's ready, but I decided to do it myself." "You did good. Let's see the art you created."
He handed me an exquisite design. Something I haven't seen before. It's both sophisticated and elegant, and I liked it.
"It's not done yet, but..."
"This is amazing, Diet. This design and..." I trailed off and took the paper that Angel gave me. I gave it a little magic, and it turned out to be perfect.
"This will create a sensation."
Even Diether whistled, impressed by what he saw. "You should design as well, Sofia."
"This design is Angel's; I just tweaked it a little."
"So technically, it's still you who designed it, but he's not the main engineer anymore."
"Angel is the owner like me, but he's busy with other things, so he's not the designer anymore. I just don't want him to know about the designs so he can focus on his business and us as well." "Whatever the boss says,"
I received a call from Isaac, but I put him on hold. I knew it was regarding Autos-Let, and I hope he understood why I hid the fact that Angel is the owner.
"Thank you, Diether. Let's take this to the world and create a 3D, and then you know the rest."
"No one should know about it, especially Angel. I know," he said with a nod and left.
"Hello, boss. The researcher is here to give you information," Isaac answered when I called him back.
"And this is your boss, who's ready to hear what the best researcher has to say."
He chuckled before talking. "First off, I met the owner of Autos-Let." I held my breath as he continued. "He didn't react much when I told him that his proposal was a good idea, but we are not interested for now." "That's it. He didn't say anything. Was he not shocked?"
"Why would he be? He's a nice guy, but I think they will not accept the answer and will keep on insisting."
Angel isn't like that. He's not kind, and he will not just accept rejection, and I know Isaac will recognize him right away.
"Isaac, what's the name of the owner of Autos-Let?"
"Harry Bloom." Ah, he's a smart lawyer; I knew it. "He's nice, and his idea isn't bad. Why can't we do business with them?" "Not now, so if he were to insist, just tell him the same thing."
"Sure. Okay, let's change the topic to Alexis."
"Tell me you found something about that jerk."
"Well, what I found out so far is that six of his secretaries resigned in a span of six months without any explanation."
"I can think of possible reasons why. Find out why and inform me as soon as possible," I said, my face scrunching up in distaste.
"Of course. We will ruin that idiot."
"I want him to regret and pay for everything he did."
"And that is what's exactly going to happen. I'll let you know as soon as I find out, and Sofia... do think about doing business with Autos-Let. Their proposal is good."
"I don't doubt it, but I still want to think about it. I will read the proposal tomorrow and I will tell you my decision, but don't get your hopes up."
I want Angel to stay away from my companies. It is enough that he knows about Lee Andrew's.
I hung up and dedicated myself to solving problems. I went between designing cars and clothes. I spent my whole morning in meetings, and after half a day, I was already tired. How can I possibly manage three companies?
"You're here," Angel said when he entered. "We need to talk."
"If it's about the design, I told you need to wait; do not insist or pressure Diether."
"Diether already told me, and I trust you with that."
"Can you repeat what you said?" I asked and stared at him weirdly. Did I hear it right? "You trust me, Angel? Have you thought about what I advised you about your head?" "Yes, in fact, I think we should do a couple's therapy." He taunted me.
"You're not funny, Angel."
"Look who said it, and it's not that. We need to resolve another issue."
"Is it important? The company is working just fine as far as I know."
"It is. How's your diet and medicines?"
A look of surprise and confusion crossed my face. "It's fine, and I'm okay. Let's see. Tell me, Angel, is there a problem in the company?"
"I told you it's not. Should we go out for lunch?"
"You and me? A lunch that isn't business-related? Angel, are you delirious?"
"No, I feel perfectly fine, and we have to talk, but not here."
"You are not being yourself. You're not going to kill me, are you?" I asked in suspicion, my eyes narrowing at him.
"I did not kill you in the last five years; why would I do it now?" he asked with so much sarcasm.
"I don't know. You're being weird. You are doing things you haven't done before, like caring for me."
"I know, Sofia, I'm aware. Now, can we go get that lunch? I will not kill you." Be responded in a teasing manner.
"Funny," I said and rolled my eyes. "Well, I'm busy right now, so I can't. Maybe later or another day."
He looked at me with doubtful eyes. "Sofia, I just asked you out for lunch, and you are saying you can't right now."
"Angel, I have so much to do, and just because you asked doesn't mean I'll leave this all for you, just because you want to talk now."
"God, you're so-" He stopped himself, and a look of irritation crossed his face before he left.
"That man, I swear. He's impossible. "I muttered and shook my head.
I tried not to think about what Angel said or his actions, his kiss, his everything. I just buried myself with work, and after a few hours, something I never expected to happen happened. "Do you realize that you are not taking care of yourself?"
"For someone who doesn't want to get close to me, you are being too close, don't you think?"
"Whatever. Let's eat, and you can go back to your work."
He sat on the sofa and took out everything he bought from the bags he was carrying. Chinese food, sushi, and desserts.
"Angel, do you want me to have another attack? That is too much food."
"He shrugged while holding a chopstick. "I don't know what to get, so I just took whatever I think you'll like."
"God! But that is too much!" I exclaimed in both amazement and wonder.
"Sofi, sit so you can eat. Don't make me go there and make you," he threatened, and I kept silent.
It's been a long time since he called me that, and I can see how serious he is about his threat, so I had no choice but to sit with him.
"I'll just eat a little."
We started to eat, and it was weird. None of us said anything, and we just ate in silence until I got tired of it.
"Thanks for the lunch."
"It's nothing. You can't skip your meals, or you'll end up in the hospital again."
"That won't happen because I'm taking my meds."
"I'm glad," he said with a pleased nod.
"Your design was good; why didn't you do it for your own company?" I asked to change the topic.
"I have lots of other designs," he replied with a shrug.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
"Much better than what you gave me?"
Angel sighed and looked at me. "Sofia, this is still my company, so even if I have my own, I won't do anything that can potentially ruin it."
"That's good to hear, but you still won't see the new designs," I told him with a wide smile.
"I'm not expecting to."
I swallowed another piece of sushi with water and set the chopsticks down. "Mm., I am done eating, so I'm going back to work."
"Sofia, did you like me?" He asked out of nowhere, and I remained rooted to where I was standing back at my desk. I turned to him with a frown. "Back in college, did you like me? I mean, I thought you did, but..." "Why do you ask all of a sudden?"
"Why are you not answering it?"
"Because. What's the use of you knowing now?"
He stood up and walked towards me, making me back up until he cornered me on my desk. Will he kiss me again? God, I hope so. I hope he doesn't.
"Answer me, Sofi. Did you like me?"
I swallowed and stopped myself from looking at his lips. "I did, Angel. I liked you, but you liked Elisa," I admitted with my eyes away from him.
"If you liked me, why is Kevin your boyfriend?" There he goes again with that Kevin.
"Where did you get the idea that we dated?" I asked in irritation.
"You didn't?"
"No, Angel. I am a woman with a brain, and only a blind and stupid woman will date that oaf."
He put his arms on the desk, leaving me trapped in them. He was so close that I could smell him, and he smelled so delicious.
He breathed heavily. "Don't lie to me, Sofia. Please."
"I never liked Kevin; I never dated him. What happened between him and me was merely a fight that ended up with me smashing a bottle on his head because of the rumor he spread." ""What rumor?"
"That isn't important anymore. Why are you asking me that? You also mentioned it the other night."
When I looked at his eyes, I almost gasped when I realized he wasn't looking at my eyes but at my lips. His face inched closer, and I gripped the desk.
"Sofia, I have something to show you." Diether, who came in, stopped himself when he saw us. "I'm sorry, I didn't know you were here."
"That's why you should practice knocking before entering," Angel told Diehter without taking his eyes off me.
"I'm sorry. I just..."
"Close the door when you leave." Angel cut him off in dismissal, and we heard the door closing, our eyes never leaving each other.
I hope God will give me the strength to reject this man. I need to.
"I just need to go somewhere, but when I come back, we'll take Sofia."
"You now want to talk?" I asked in disbelief and laughter.
"I told you I needed to clear something before that."
"Things won't always be in your favor, Angel. The world doesn't revolve around you."
"I know. We'll talk later, so don't come out too late."
He pulled away from me, and I could finally breathe. He left without saying anything again, and I was left to calm my heart. He will drive me crazy one day. 'Okay, Sofia. You don't love him anymore. You don't.' I kept on repeating in my mind.
