I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 498

Chapter 498 Stalemate

His kiss was fierce, and it lasted for so long that Harper almost suffocated.

Because he was too forceful and even bit her at the end, her lips became red and painful.

Harper gasped for air, glaring at him. "Why did you bite me?"

"What were you thinking? I called you, and you didn't even hear me. Harper, where did you and Annie go today? What made you space out even when I was just on the phone?"

Her lips were red and swollen from the kiss, looking even more moist in the light.

He looked at her lips, feeling dry in his mouth, a surge of desire running through him, but in the end, he controlled himself.

Harper stubbornly refused to give in. "I said, I just went out with Annie for a bit. Do I have to report to you wherever I go? I wasn't spacing out. I just didn't want to disturb you while you were on the phone. Wasn't Curtis talking to you about Lauren? She wanted to see you so badly. Why didn't you agree?"

Harper showed her displeasure and annoyance, wanting to change the topic quickly to get Benjamin's attention off her.

But her words only made Benjamin more irritated, "You want me to agree to her request?"

"I don't. I just want to know why you wouldn't agree."

"You don't know why?"

Harper shook her head in confusion, "Of course, I don't."

"Yes, of course, you don't. You don't care about me, so how would you know?"

His tone was mocking.

Harper was speechless for a long time.

She was still sitting in his lap, but both of them remained silent until Angie knocked on the door, speaking softly from outside. "Dinner is ready. Would you eat now or later?"

Harper instinctively looked at Benjamin, but he still remained silent, not responding to Angie.

So she answered, "We'll be right there."

Angie agreed and then went to set the table.

Harper and Benjamin ate dinner, but due to what had just happened, there was almost no interaction between them.

After dinner, Benjamin went to his study.

Harper was left alone in the living room, watching TV. In reality, she wasn't paying attention to the TV at all. She was just messaging Annie on her phone, summarizing the situation with Benjamin for her.

Benjamin sat at his desk for a long time, the atmosphere heavy.

He was a suspicious person with a sensitive nature that allowed him to see through many things.

Harper's unusual reaction made him think too much.

He picked up his phone and made a call. "Find out where Harper and Annie went today."

Curtis said, "Okay."

He tightened his grip on the phone, then added, "Never mind, don't check. You don't need to worry about this."

Curtis asked uncertainly, "Mr. Martin, you mean I don't have to check right?"

"No check. What did Lauren say?"

"She hasn't replied yet, but her reaction is different from usual as if she really knows something you're interested in." "Don't make it seem like we're interested. Also, check if anything happened while she was suspended."

He didn't believe Lauren's words,

thinking she was making up lies because she had been suspended for too long to get her job back. From NôvelDrama.Org.

Benjamin hung up the phone and leaned back in his chair, looking out at the night sky in silence.

Over the next two days, Harper didn't go to work again.

At first, Benjamin didn't know, but Curtis mentioned it on the third day during his morning report.

Curtis said, "Mr. Martin, the people protecting Mrs. Martin said that Mrs. Martin didn't go to work yesterday, and so far today, she hasn't shown up at the company. Do you know about this?"
