I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 389

Chapter 389 Fierce

Harper pressed her lips, her voice calm and steady. "I'm working right now. Though my company isn't as big as the Martin Group, I still have responsibilities. If you're in a hurry, you can go back first."

Benjamin's gaze locked on her and scoffed, "You said it yourself, your company isn't the Martin Group. So, come home with me."

His remark carried an unmistakable threat.

Frank caught the undertone and sensed the tension between them. He spoke up to defend. "Mr. Martin, although our company isn't as large as the Martin Group, you should still respect everyone's work. Harper and I still need to discuss a project. Asking her to leave with you right now would be irresponsible, wouldn't it?"

"So what?" Benjamin's eyes narrowed, his gaze cold and fierce, his face sullen. "Do you think you'd still be sitting here talking to me if it weren't for Harper?"

Benjamin's implication was clear. Without Harper, Frank would have been out of Mayby long ago.

His tone was bold, yet it didn't sound out of place coming from him.

His voice, neither too loud nor too soft, carried to the rest of the office area, drawing everyone's attention.

All eyes suddenly turned, and everyone held their breath.

Frank was left speechless by his words, struggling to contain the emotions rising within him.

In the end, Frank couldn't muster a rebuttal, merely saying softly, "Mr. Martin, compliance obtained through intimidation isn't truly voluntary. Harper and you are equals. You can't treat her like an employee or a subordinate."

Benjamin laughed, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "So what? Should I be like you, harboring deceitful intentions yet using noble excuses as a cover? If you don't have the guts, then I advise you to completely abandon those impossible thoughts. As for whether the compliance obtained through threats is voluntary, don't trouble yourself over it."

Benjamin stared him down leisurely, dissecting every word he said, leaving him unable to respond.

Frank's expression was equally grave, his demeanor stiff and cool.

The atmosphere grew tense.

The two men locked eyes, and it was clear who was in control and who was not.

After a few seconds of deadlock, Harper stood up and walked out. If she didn't compromise, Benjamin would continue with even harsher words.

She didn't want to cause unnecessary harm to others just for her sake.

Exiting Frank's office, Harper walked straight out of the company, with Benjamin quickly following behind.

The two maintained silence until they were seated in the car.Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

Harper glanced at him coolly. "Do you find this amusing?"

"Harper, I've told you to keep your distance from him. I don't want to see you getting too close."

His deep eyes fixed intensely on her as his voice, hoarse and low, resonated from deep within his throat. She found it both absurd and laughable.

Staring back at Benjamin, her gaze ice-cold, she said, "We were at

in a company full of people. Work

you think we could possibly do? Besides, I'm pregnant now!

"Harper!"

"We're the only two here. You don't need to shout. I can hear you just fine."

Harper's demeanor was frosty, her face almost expressionless.

Her attitude only deepened Benjamin's displeasure, his face growing colder as he said, "So you're not taking in anything I'm saying? Do I need to personally intervene in your company affairs before you're satisfied?"

"Benjamin, you wouldn't dare!"

Harper paused abruptly, taken aback by his words.

He smirked dismissively. "Harper, there's nothing I wouldn't dare. If you continue to not keep your distance from him, I will make sure my words are not empty threats."
