Chapter 210
Chapter 210 Marital Rights
Harper didn't go upstairs but decided not to look for him either. Instead, she dialed Benjamin's number.
With her lips lightly pursed, she waited for the call to connect and then asked softly, "Are you at home?"
"Is there a problem?" Benjamin's husky voice came.
Harper paused briefly, then said calmly, "Have you gone to bed? I'm at Pineview Villa right now. If you're still awake, maybe we can talk?"This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
"Talk about what? Divorce? It's just a divorce, Harper. Do you really need to talk about it in the middle of the night?" Benjamin asked coldly, his voice full of displeasure and anger. Harper was taken aback. She didn't understand why Benjamin was suddenly angry.
She pursed her lips tightly and explained in a low voice, "I wanted to ask you a couple of things about Larry."
"So you come over in the middle of the night just to talk about another man?" Benjamin's voice was deep and rough, his words dripping with icy sarcasm and disdain.
Harper opened her mouth somewhat helplessly, but before she could say anything else, she heard the sound of a door opening. The next second, she saw his tall figure walking in.
Their eyes met, and Benjamin was the first to hang up the call. He then walked towards Harper with deliberate slowness, towering over her, and asked, "What about Larry did you want to talk about?"
Harper pursed her lips, turning away to avoid his gaze. She whispered, "Annie is gone missing. I suspect Larry might have taken her. Could you please ask Larry about it?"
His thin lips held a faint smile, his eyes piercing as he stared at her with a teasing sneer. "Harper, do I look like someone easy to talk into doing favors?"
Harper frowned.
"Benjamin, since Larry is already engaged, he should stop bothering Annie. You're friends with Larry. A phone call is a small effort for you but means a lot to me. If it wasn't Larry who took her, then something else must have happened, so I..."
"Just because it's a small effort, I should agree. What? Are you trying to guilt-trip me now?"
"I'm not trying to guilt-trip you. I'm just asking for your help."
"Why should I help you?" Benjamin asked.
His eyes narrowed slightly, his handsome face colder and more detached.
Harper was suddenly speechless.
Indeed, Benjamin didn't necessarily help her.
He had every right to refuse.
The next moment, Benjamin asked, "We're just about to divorce, and here you are at my door late at night. Harper, it's hard not to think you chose this time because you want something to happen between us. Or don't you know that it's easy for things to go wrong with a man and a woman alone at night?"
As Benjamin Spoke, he leaned in slightly towards Harper, his masculine scent overwhelming. Almost instinctively, Harper swayed to the teft, his lips seemingly about to touch her face, but he suddenly stopped.
Their faces were so close, nearly just a paper's width apart. He smiled faintly, "So you did this on purpose, didn't you?"
Harper stared at him, stepping back instinctively until she fell onto the couch behind her.
She said quietly, "I didn't. I just..."
"If that's the case, you can leave now. Otherwise, could you not say it wasn't intentional? Given our current situation, I could still exercise my marital rights."
