I Am Unstoppable

Chapter 258

Chapter 258

Johanna turned to Joanne, who looked bewildered. The latter said, “It's the first time I've seen such a reaction.”

“That's so strange,” Johanna reached out to hold Joanne's hand.

Although she held it tightly without loosening her grip, nothing happened.

Even after watching closely for one full minute, Jonathan did not notice any change in either of the women.

They turned toward him doubtfully, then Johanna asked, “Could it be that there's something strange with your body?”

He stroked his nose thoughtfully and sounded frustrated as he replied, “I've also never come across something like this. Why don't the two of us try it?”

Johanna did not think he was trying to take advantage of her, so she stretched her soft, fair hand toward him and joined hands.

However, they did not observe anything unusual.

They maintained that position for a minute to the point they felt embarrassed and let go, but still, nothing happened.

All of a sudden, Joanne stuck out her hand toward Jonathan and said, “Let's give it a go again.”

Nodding, Jonathan reached over so they could clasp their hands together.

What the hell! There's that biting cold sensation again!

He had to use his vitality to resist the icy feeling that radiated from Joanne's body.

White frost began forming on his hands like before, and that time around, it even spread to his arms.

“Let go!” he yelled, unable to bear it any longer. He withdrew his hand and stepped back.

Only then did the frost on his arm gradually disappear.

As he stared at her, one could tell from the look in his eyes that he thought the whole situation was strange and ominous. It's the first time I've encountered something so sinister.

Joanne also had a strange look in her eyes as she fell into deep thought.

Noticing that, Jonathan knew at once that something was amiss with Joanne but that she did not wish to talk about it.

Nonetheless, he did not want to probe further as it had nothing to do with him. He merely smiled and said, “If there's nothing else, I'll be going then.”

Panicking, Johanna hurriedly called out, “Don't go! What's wrong with my sister?”

“You know something, don't you? It's just that you're unwilling to say anything,” he said while looking

straight at Joanne.

Johanna shifted her gaze to Joanne and asked, “Is that true?”

However, Joanne replied, “Not at all.” After a pause, she continued, “Let's not talk about this now. Instead, we should be discussing how to thank Mr. Lawson.”

Johanna had no clue what was going on. All she knew was that her sister was quite opinionated and that she would not be able to change the latter's mind. Hence, she responded in agreement, saying, “Yes, you're right. We need to thank him properly.”

“That won't be necessary,” he replied nonchalantly. Nonetheless, he could not refrain from asking, “Why is there an assassin out to kill you?”

While Johanna hesitated, wondering whether to share more details, Joanne said, “Let's sit and talk.”

Since Jonathan was in no rush and was somewhat curious, he replied, “Sure.”

After the trio sat down on the couch, Joanne had her secretary come in to make some coffee. She also whispered a few words into the latter's ear, who nodded in response.

Then, she said to Jonathan, “In truth, there's nothing to hide. My sister and I went to Ustrana recently and developed a core technology patent with a Chanaean scientist. The drawing for the technology is very complex. Currently, no one can produce it on a computer. My sister has the drawing, but there's no way of transmitting it using a computer.”

Johanna piped up, “Joanne is an expert in this area. She can analyze the drawing to help Falcon Corporation build better engines.”

“We didn't expect our competitors to try and get their hands on the drawing once the news leaked. From their perspective, even if they can't get the drawing, they don't want us to have it to prevent us from pulling ahead of them. That Chanaean scientist has passed away in Ustrana. So, once the drawing gets destroyed, that technology will be lost forever,” Joanne explained. After a brief pause, she said, “Thankfully, the gods were on our side. We were fortunate to meet you, which is why the drawing didn't go missing. Mr. Lawson, you've saved us from a huge loss, so we must thank you.”

As she spoke, the secretary brought over the coffee and a checkbook.

Joanne was someone who did everything with a generous spirit. Her pen flew over the check with great flourish, then she tore it out and handed it to Jonathan. “Here's a small token of our appreciation. Please accept it.”

Without looking at the check, Jonathan replied with a smile, “It was nothing. There's no need for that.”

Joanne and Johanna were slightly taken aback, wondering if he genuinely did not care about money.

“Mr. Lawson, I think you should take a look at the amount before deciding whether or not to refuse it,” Joanne suggested.

He grinned at her and said, “For someone as generous as you who wishes to thank me personally, I'm guessing you wouldn't write down anything less than three million.”

Her expression shifted slightly as that was the exact amount she had written! She had not expected

him to make such an accurate guess, and she could not help but take another look at him.

He may appear cynical, but there's actually more to him than meets the eye.

“All right, then. I still have some business to attend to. Bye!” With that, Jonathan got up to leave.

After taking a few steps, he looked back at Joanne with a smile. “It's a beautiful thing when people lend a helping hand to others in a situation where they don't cause harm to themselves. If one were to involve money in everything, life would be rather dull.”

Having said that, he strode out of the office.

The two sisters exchanged glances after he left.

“What do you think of him?” Johanna asked.

Joanne pondered for a moment before saying, “He's either a scheming man who's plotting something big or a rare gem of a gentleman.”

“I think he falls in the latter category because I bumped into him in a panic while running for my life. It doesn't make sense for him to have ulterior motives.”

Joanne countered, “Maybe he saw that Falcon Corporation was doing well and hatched a new plan. He's a smart person, that's for sure.”

Her sister shot her a bitter smile. “Joanne, I think he's more easygoing than you. He doesn't think that badly of others. Also, you tend to doubt everything and distrust others because you've been a chairman

for so long.”

Joanne did not attempt to refute what Johanna said. Instead, she replied rather tiredly, “Perhaps.”

Something occurred to Johanna, and she added, “By the way, why was there frost when you shook Jonathan's hand just now?”

“I'm really not too sure,” Joanne replied, not wanting to talk about it. After a pause, she asked, “Where's the drawing?”

Johanna did not press further and merely took out the drawing.

Willowbank had a northern climate, so even though it was the end of February, the weather was still freezing cold.

Despite the sun shining that day, there was still a frosty chill in the air.

Sometimes, it would still snow in Willowbank in May. It was truly a strange city.

After exiting Falcon Building, Jonathan walked under the morning sun while mulling over the unusual incident with Joanne.

It was something he had never experienced, and he could not wrap his head around it.

When one attained the same level of understanding as Jonathan, one would realize there was a clear reason behind everything in the world.

They knew there was a cause and effect to everything that happened.

It was just like how there was an explanation for Lance's remarkable ability to exist in the form of primordial spirits.

However, when it came to what happened with Joanne, Jonathan simply could not figure it out.

Why does the frost only appear when I shake hands with Joanne but not when Johanna does it? I'm sure Joanne usually shakes hands with others, so she would've definitely known if there was a reaction. In other words, a chemical reaction only occurs when she shakes hands with me. What the f*ck does that mean?

Suddenly, he felt as though his mind was a jumbled mess as myriad thoughts related to tales of the reincarnation of ill-fated lovers raced through it.

Could something have happened between Joanne and me in our past lives? But isn't that just nonsense? There's no such thing as reincarnation, so how could there be past lives? When a person dies, that's it. Reincarnation doesn't happen!

He was absolutely mystified.

He was walking along the street when he spotted a restaurant. Turning abruptly, he went into the restaurant and ordered a spaghetti bolognese while still mulling over the matter.

I can't figure it out!

Suddenly, Jonathan thought of Master Richard.

With his god-like cultivation, he's sure to be way more knowledgeable than me. Why don't I try asking him? However, it doesn't seem quite right to bother him with something as trivial as this.

“Oh, right! I can ask Beatrix!” he exclaimed, having a sudden flash of inspiration. After all, Master Richard was the one who had said I could look for her if I came across any difficulties.

Without hesitation, he whipped out his phone and dialed Beatrix's number.

The call went through quickly, then he heard Beatrix's voice on the other end of the line.

“Hello?”

Snickering, he replied, “Hello, Little Bee. Can you guess who's this?”

A second later, all he heard was the dial tone as she hung up.

Jonathan was momentarily taken aback. He would behave when he was around Beatrix, but now that he was miles away, he had gotten smart-mouthed. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.

However, it was a complete surprise to him that she would hang up just like that.

He sighed. Beatrix has no sense of humor at all and can't take a joke. What a killjoy.

After that, he called her again. That time, he greeted stiffly, “Hello, Beatrix. It's me, Jonathan.”

“Is something the matter?” Beatrix asked coldly.

“Well, yes. There's something that I think is very strange, and I can't figure it out. That's why I wanted to ask you about it. You're way more experienced—”

“Get to the point,” she snapped, interrupting him without any qualms.

He immediately began, “Here's what happened...”

Then, he proceeded to describe how frost had appeared after touching Joanne's hand.

“What do you think happened? Nothing happens to other people who shake her hand. It's only me. Could it be that we were lovers in our past lives, and now that fate led us to cross paths again, a chemical reaction occurred as soon as we met?”

Beatrix replied, “It's normal for men to have physiological reactions when they meet a woman. However, this is my first time hearing something like this.”

Jonathan was caught off-guard by her comment about a physiological response. D*mn! She's quite open about these things!
