In any case, it was better for her to feel his absence today and live happily after, all through the rest of her life.

He resolved not to go back to his decision, he would try to convince her that his decision for relocation to Accra was not meant to confine her to solitude, rather, it was was a way of seeking greener pastures that would enhance their living standard, improve their purchasing power and elevate their status in the community.

“Mother, you don’t have to worry like this, sincerely, I understand how you feel, but at the same time you must realize that we cannot continue to live like paupers any longer, you have sacrificed a lot to educate me from primary to university level, and yet look at me, four years after I graduated with first class honours degree, I am still unable to secure a job. I think the best thing is for me not to sit down here, doing nothing, I must exploit other avenue as well” he cleared his throat lightly.

“… iam very optimistic that I would be better off in Lagos, again i promise you that as soon as i get a job, your entire life would change remarkablely for the better” Marco pleaded with his mother.

“I quite understand your motive my son but you see, there is something i am worried about and that has to do with your safety, the city is like forest full of snakes, watching from the road side, you perceive a serene and calm outlook, but inside it there are wild and dangerous snakes ever ready to bite the daylight out of you, you must be careful with those you relate with so that you won’t get into trouble” said the mother with a mollified tone.

Marco was deeply touched by his mother’s words of wisdom and there and then, he determined in his mind that he would never associate with base people. Alas, even the mere mention of snakes was enough to confound him.

There was nothing in the world he dreaded like snakes, he could not afford the sight of it, not to talk of going to near it.

He assured her that he would live up to expectations and avoid bad associations.

” Thank you very much Mum for opening my eyes to realities of life, the fact is that i am not longer a child. I know what is good for me, and as such I will never relent in doing that which would bring glory and honour to your name, I promise not to let you down, sooner or later, you will receive the news of my triumph” he assured the worried looking woman with a big smile on his face. Deep down in his heart, he kept wondering if he was actually going to overcome the temptation of the bubbling city life
