CHAPTER CXVIII
~~~
“We’re sorry, Don. We couldn’t save the-,”
Sophia’s eyes snapped open, and she sat up on the hospital bed with a jerk, ignoring the pain on her abdomen.
She was wearing a blue hospital gown, and there was a bandage wrapped around her forehead. She could hear beep of the heart monitoring machine.
Her hands went to her stomach. “My baby -” Her eyes went towards the other room of the bed, expecting to find a baby cot but found none. She tugged off the IV drip from her hand and jumped off the bed once she remembered what had actually happened to her.
What of her baby?
She limped towards the door and opened it, finding the hallway empty. Neither Chase, Lucas, Luciano or Valerie was there.
Maybe her baby was in an incubator. After all, it was still premature.
“Hey,” She called the nurse she saw passing by.
The nurse paled as she stared at Sophia. “How- how can I help you, Mrs.-,”
She cut the nurse off. “Take me to my baby,”
“Your baby is-,”
“Where’s she?” She smiled and dramatically palmed her forehead. “I can be so foolish at times. I’m sorry,” She sighed. “My baby is premature. She must be in the incubator. Is her dad there? What of the rest?”
“They- they’ve gone to-,”
“To see the baby?” She smiled wider. “They didn’t even wait for me,”
“I think you should have some rest, ma’am,” The nurse moved closer.
“But I want to see my baby,” Sophia whined. “After seeing her, I promise to rest all you want,”
“I’m sorry, ma’am,” The nurse tried to make her understand. You’ve been operated on and you’re not allowed to move around,”
“But I want to see my baby!”
Before the nurse could reply, another nurse walked to them, not noticing Sophia. “Eliza, Mr. Romano and his cousins have just returned from the morgue and are asking for-,”She gasped when her eyes fell on Sophia. “Mrs. Romano,”
“What were they doing in a morgue?” Sophia asked. “Shouldn’t they be with my baby in the incubator room?”
“We’re sorry, ma’am,” The nurse apologized. “The- the baby you gave birth to was a stillborn. It died before you were brought in,”
Sophia’s legs buckled and she fell on her knees. Blood rushed to her ears and she stared at nothing in particular, trying to comprehend what the nurse just said.
Her baby was dead. Her little girl was gone.
“It died before you were brought in,”
Her baby had died before they got to the hospital. Because of Chase.
Chase was the reason her baby died. That was all he always wanted. He never wanted the baby and he had made it clear to her.
And oh lord… they didn’t even wait for her to wake up before taking her baby to the morgue. How could she have thought the three siblings would ever consider her their first priority before their own cousin and leader?
“Mrs.-,”
She ignored them. Sophia shot to her feet and rushed towards the exit of the hospital, the nurses hot on her tail.
She hated everyone bearing the Romano name. She didn’t want to part of those selfish people. All they had ever done was taken from her. Most especially their leader.
The one who snatched every single happiness she ever had.
Sophia ran away from the hospital. She ran away from the members of the Romano family, without turning back.
Little did she know, she always belonged to that same selfish family and would never be given a chance to escape.
And even if she did, it wouldn’t be for too long.
HER’S| 18+{SEQUEL TO HIS}
A sneak peek into “HER’S” Sophia stared at her reflection in the large mirror in the bridal dressing room. She was dressed in a beautiful, white wedding dress. Its bodice hugged her upper frame, and the length of the skirt stopped at her feet, kissing the ground. She had a veil draped over her head but she hadn’t used it to cover her face yet, as it wasn’t time for her to go to the aisle. She had a minimal make up on and she looked pretty as always.
An inaudible sigh eluded her lips as she realized she was actually getting married.
Getting married to a man she didn’t love.
Her heart still remained with Chase even after two years of not seeing him, not hearing his voice or doing anything that would remind her of him. But too bad, he wasn’t good for her, and she hoped she would never ever meet him again.
She buried her face in her palm and pulled it away, her eyes immediately falling on a large gift box on the bed. A frown made its way to her face.
The box wasn’t there before she covered her face, so how had it gotten there?
Curiously, she stood up from the stool she was seated on and walked towards the bed, her heart drumming wildly against its ribcage at the thought of the person stalking her for a year, dropping it there.
As she unwrapped the gift box, her mind told her not to do it. She could fear coursing through her veins but ignored it.
When she fully unwrapped the box, she gazed at the dress in it. She took it out of the box; it was pure white, decorated with silver designs. It was the same size of her body and she was sure it would fit her perfectly.
And it looked much more expensive than the one she was wearing.
Had her fiance; Matteo suddenly decided to gift her another wedding dress so she could change out of the one she was already wearing?
Before she could think further, a white card fell from the dress at her feet, and her heart sank.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
Staring at the familiar white card, she knew it was the person that had been stalking her that sent the dress.
She swallowed and bent down to pick up the card. A part of her told her not to read it. She ignored that part of her and flipped the card.
Without me, there’s no you, and without you, there’s no me.
She gasped.
He had found her. See you in HER’S.
Lots of love
