Chapter 13
Chapter 13
After the banquet, Lauren received a call. It was from that little boy called Leo that she met today. Leo
said he wanted to invite Lauren to his home and he would show her his paintings.
Hearing his voice, Lauren thought this little boy was cuter. Actually, she didn’t like children, but she
liked Leo very much. Even herself couldn’t tell why.
“I’d love to.” Lauren nodded and then said to Leo, “Do you go to bed now? Have a good rest today if
you want to grow taller.
Ha–ha-”
Hearing this, Leo was a little nervous. He was worried that if he would not grow tall, Lauren would not
like him so he immediately nodded and said, “I’m going to sleep now, Lauren. Good night.” Then he
added, “I will grow taller and taller.”
The maid Daphne was surprised to find that the light in Leo’s room was out.
In her mind, Leo liked staying up, and rarely went to bed so early. It was only 10 o’clock now, and he
turned off the lights. Yesterday, he stayed up until 12 o’clock in the middle of the night, and got up at
noon the next day. Mr. Frank was so angry that he said he would send him away.
Could he be sick? Daphne was very worried about Leo.
She gently pushed the door open and whispered, “Leo, are you still awake?”
Leo was trying to make himself sleep, but Daphne disturbed him so Leo immediately became unhappy
and kind of lost his temper. “Why did you come in without my permission?”
Daphne felt sorry and immediately said, “I’m sorry, I just want to make sure that you are alright.”
After all, it was not easy for kids to control their temper and Leo was only four years old. But he soon
realized his mistake. “How can I be angry with Daphne? Daphne was so good to me,” Leo thought.
Leo now was still very worried that I would not grow tall, but he couldn’t fall asleep because he felt
guilty about Daphne. He was just a four–and–a–half–year–old boy and he couldn’t handle such mixed
feelings right now. He didn’t how to express to Daphne so Leo had to cry, which made Daphne more
worried.
“Why are you crying? Are you uncomfortable?” Daphne asked another maid to go find Mr. Frank, and
she went to Leo’s side and. touched his forehead. Daphne was sure that Leo didn’t have fever and
there was just sweat.
So Daphne pulled the quilt a little bit down and comforted him softly, “Can you tell me why you are
crying? Did someone bully
you?”
When Charlie came over, Leo had been crying for a long time, and his eyes, nose, and face were very
red. His neck was very wet
because of his tears.
“What’s wrong?” Charlie asked.
Leo said with a sad face, “I can’t fall asleep, but I want to fall asleep.” Leo thought that then he would
grow taller.
Charlie signaled Daphne to go out, and then lay on the bed next to Leo, saying in a soft voice, “Daddy
will sleep with you.”
Leo slept in Charlie’s arms and told his father about Lauren, “I will invite a friend to our home
tomorrow.”
“Your friend? Are you going to the playground with your friend?” Charlie asked. Leo’s grandmother
loved Leo so much that she even built an amusement park for him.
“We are not going to the amusement park,” Leo said, “Lauren is an adult and she would not like it.”
“What did you just say? What’s your friend’s name?” Charlie got up and looked at Leo in surprise.
Leo was a little frightened, and replied in a low voice, “Her name is Lauren.”
Hearing this, Charlie suddenly remembered what his son said to him when he came back home. Leo
said, “Dad, I like Lauren
from the Bennett family and I want her to be my mother!”
But at that time, Charlie was so immersed in sadness that he didn’t listen to what Leo said at all.
Charlie only felt that his heart was about to jump out of his chest.
His lips trembled before he could speak normally, and he asked Leo, “Lauren? Are you sure she is
called Lauren Bennett?”
Leo nodded, and at the same time was a little puzzled. He constantly looking at Charlie, and asked,
“Do you know Lauren
before?” Leo was a smart boy.
Although he is still a child, he knew how to observe people’s expressions.
Charlie was in a very messy mood now, and he didn’t have time to reply his son, so he covered the
quilt for Leo and said, “Good
night.” Then he got up and left.
Back in the study. Charlie went to the window and smoked a cigarette. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
He didn’t smoke often but he liked smoking very much some time. But because she said she didn’t like

pack a day.
But in recent years, he smoked less. It was partly because of Leo and partly because of her. He didn’t
want her to hate him when
she came back and smelled it.
Charlie realized that he was shedding tears and he blinked a few times. Then he walked to the
computer, and began to search for
the lost daughter 18 years ago of Mr.Bennett.
After he typed Lauren Bennett, many pictures popped up. He was so familiar with this woman on the
screen. Charlie laughed
lowly. Finally, she was back.
