Chapter 275
Casper slowly got to his feet, brushing the sand off his clothes. He shrugged off his jacket, tossing it to Dillon. "Call for backup and make sure she's alright," he instructed.
"Mr. Casper, your injuries..." Dillon's voice trailed off, concern etched on his face. Eliza had stabbed Casper not too long ago and he hadn't fully healed. Was he really going to dive into that stormy sea? Without a second thought, Casper plunged into the churning waters. The wind howled, and rain poured down in torrents, turning the sea into a chaotic mess.
Aaron was the first to return, shivering and blue-lipped from the cold. "Eliza, I couldn't find Brock," he said, his voice trembling. It was impossible to blame him; he looked like he'd been through hell. All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Eliza nodded slightly, her eyes glued to the spot where Casper had disappeared into the waves. Her son was so young and had been lost in the sea for so long. She was terrified, her legs barely holding her up.
Dillon stood behind her, holding an umbrella, his face mirroring her worry. "Don't worry, Brock will be okay," Aaron tried to reassure her, but Eliza only stared sorrowfully at the turbulent sea, tears streaming down her face. She never imagined she'd rely on Casper for anything. Could she trust him to give his all? What choice did she have now?
"Ms. Valerie, why don't you come to the yacht and rest for a bit?" Dillon suggested. He'd already called for a rescue team, and they would be arriving soon. "If Mr. Casper promised to help, he'll give it his all." Eliza shook her head. She wasn't leaving until she saw her son safe.
Under the water, Casper dived deeper, driven by his experience and determination. The sea was a swirling, unforgiving force, and he wasn't sure if he could find Brock.
Despite the chaos above, the world beneath the waves was eerily calm. Casper searched frantically, the bone-chilling water sapping his strength. Just as he was about to lose hope, he spotted Brock. He swam over as fast as he could, grabbing Brock and heading for the surface.
Eliza saw Casper emerge with her son and, despite her own freezing state, jumped into the water to help him. Aaron watched, his eyes dark with a mix of emotions. Once they were back on land, Brock received immediate first aid and was quickly taken by the rescue team for further treatment. Eliza followed, not sparing a glance at Casper. Casper was exhausted and collapsed onto the beach, letting the rain wash over him. Dillon hurried over, holding the umbrella above him. "Mr. Casper, are you alright?" Casper stared up at the oppressive dark clouds. After a moment, he let out a bitter laugh. "She didn't even look at me. It doesn't matter to her if I'm alive or not."
The words were like a punch to the
gut. Eliza's focus was entirely oncher son, seemingly indifferent to Casper's fate. He had risked his life for a child that wasn't his, all for her.
Dillon's heart ached with unspoken sympathy. "Maybe she..." he started, trying to find some excuse for Eliza, but the words wouldn't come. He couldn't justify her actions.
Back in Oak Falls, Eliza was glued to her son's side. The doctors kept marveling at his luck, saying any other kid would have perished in the sea.
They said he was destined for a
fortunate life. But Eliza couldn't think
about the future just yet. Only when her son was out of danger and resting in the ward did she finally feet some relief.
Aaron stayed with her, offering comfort and support. "Aaron, you should go rest. I'll stay with my son," she said, wanting a moment alone with her child. "You've done enough."
