Hint of Darkness and Light

Rogues

Verena’s POV

Every part of my being demanded that I do just what he claimed he enjoyed. It wanted me to fight him every step of the way, but common sense prevailed. Barely.

I let him lead me out of the room, and I wasn’t even surprised when I found Damien waiting for us. Based on the hint of amusement in his features, he must have heard at least half of our argument.

“Well look at you two.” Damien cooed like a severe maniac.

“Don’t fucking test me Damien or I’ll chain you to Luke.” Damon growled.

Chuckling under his breath, Damien said nothing as he fell into step behind us. We took the same stairs we’d sped down hours earlier.

As soon as we entered the common area, Damien slowed his pace so he walked directly behind me.

Different faces met my gaze. Anxiety gushed beneath my skin.

“Don’t worry it’ll be just this night baby.” Damon whispered behind my ears that send me to shiver.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

“You didn’t warned me idiot.”

I must have said it aloud that the elders coughed while the others only laughed.

One man sat to the end of the table. He looks like more of Damon. This must be the Alpha.

I lifted my chin and straightened my spine.

They all stood up that made me cringe. They waited until we sat next to the elders. When we finally sat down everyone does in unison.

“Damon declined the offer of meeting in the palace hall. So maybe he wanted to discuss the matters in his house.” Damon’s dad said. Some whispered with each other that send me uncomfortable. They must see me as the reason behind.

“I told you dad, my mate had a severe inconvenience. I can’t afford to endanger her.” He didn’t sound or look smug. He didn’t sound proud.

Bile crept up my throat.

I smack him with my elbow on his abs. He didn’t mind but he hid the impact through clearing his throat.

“You didn’t announced to the whole pack that you already found your mate Damon.” An older woman said while giving me a harsh look.

I want to roll my eyes, but my moral said otherwise.

“She’s still lost and…” Damon trailed while he gripped my left thigh.

“She’s not a wolf?” A man coughed out.

The whispers grew again.

“I’m not, I just got here because of a small accident.”

They must have believe what I’ve said and only nodded.

Laid out before us was a feast. Stewed beef. Roasted duck. Cold meats and cheese. Baked potatoes. All of it smelled wonderful.

“We should start the feast.” The alpha announced raising his toast.

I wearily raised mine. And the clanking of glasses filled the dining hall.

“These past few days sightings of rogues are reported.” The alpha said.

“We caught one but later on he eventually dies before the guards can bring him inside the pack for further investigation.”

I noticed Damon’s uneasiness. I tap his thigh to make him relaxed.

“The guards relayed that they’re finding for something or someone…”

“Damon and Alpha Lorenzo should have more guards than usual. Their lives are more important.”

“We will make sure that no rogues can enter the pack.”

“The lives of our people are more important. We should be weary of who enters the border.” Damon said.

He was seconded by the alpha, “Being an alpha I must implement a lockdown until we ensured safety.”

“You should keep an eye on your mate Damon. Her life is too precious at this time that you have not even produced an offspring.” The older woman concluded.

My cheeks burned from embarrassment.

“Don’t worry, in the mean time she will stay here with me.” Damon said.

“You should already have conducted the bond marital rites.”

I coughed with my own saliva.

“We are still waiting for the right time.” Damon retorted. I’m getting uncomfortable every minute. Even though they are not yet informed of the truth that I’m not his mate, they are pushy with the bond thingy huh.

“Don’t hurry the kids given that they’re still new to this. Damon and his mate should explore more things before their feelings get heightened because of the bond.”

All of them laughed jokingly, Damon even smiled coyly while looking at me. He winked and god knows how I wish to smack him right this moment.

“Kinzhe.”

Blinking, I looked up at him. His golden eyes had cooled, but his jaw was hard enough to cut glass.

“Eat,” he ordered in a low voice.

I reached for a fork, picking it up and spearing a piece of meat. I took a bite, chewing slowly. It tasted as good as it smelled, but it settled too heavily in my stomach. I scooped up some of the potatoes.

A few moments passed, and he said, “Don’t mind them, they’re just excited to see a new generation from our lineage.”

Swallowing the last bit of food, I slowly placed the fork on the table. “I wasn’t expecting that.”

He only smiled as he lifted the glass to his lips.

“They’ll leave after the suffer.” He whispered not minding the eyes that were glued on us.

“And who will tidy the dining hall?”

“Seriously you’re thinking that stuff?”

“You said I will serve you!” I shouted through a whisper.

His chuckle resounded as he pinched my cheek.

“The pixies will take care of this baby.” His soft voice lingered on my ears.

I looked down at my plate to see that I have to eat plenty of broccolis on the side. I hate broccolis they tastes weird.

One side of his lips kicked up. “Eat, so you can already rest.”

That got several other people’s attention. Hoping my stomach didn’t revolt, I started eating instead of picking at my food.

“So what pack did your mate came from Damon?”

That stopped Damon eating and he only looked at the man who asked.

“She’s not from a pack.” He announced.

I opened my mouth and then closed it, nervous of their opinions and whatnots.

“Are you suggesting that she’s?”

“She’s a human.”

That send off everyone else to stop eating except Damien and the alpha who I believe already knows.

“How did you know that she is your mate? Most humans doesn’t respond to wolf calling, vice versa.”

A faint smile played across his full lips. His gaze too lowered and stopped…on my throat.

“I’m sure.” Damon responded.

“How sure are ya?”

“I tasted her blood.”

On the bite that I realized was barely hidden under the strands of hair. My blood. He knew after…tasting my blood?

But I guess he is not so sure because earlier he said there is a gap between the bond. I can’t believe I’m in this position. If he proves that I might be his mate. He won’t surely give me my freedom and rather caged me here ’til I die.

The elders coughed and hid their embarrassment.

His father only looked so proud.

I bit my lower lip for that confirmation.

“We will perform the bond this weekend. I hope y’all would cooperate. It’s for her safety.”

I jolted, my entire body freezing.

What the hell is a bond seriously someone give me the knowledge.

“The bond is when the werewolf marked its mate and perform their first making love.” Damien whispered on the side.

My eyes widened with my mouth.

Damon only gave Damien a bland look of disapproval.

If I wasn’t sitting, I likely would’ve fallen over. I’m not ready for this kind of nutcase fore plays!

When the dinner finally ended. I had a chit chat with the other pixies. And I found out that they are actually paid by Damon to serve him.

I don’t get the point of serving him if the pixies are already on the job.

On our way upstairs I noticed that Damien is following us.

“Are you sleeping here Damien?” I asked him not minding that Damon is holding my waist.

I get too comfortable with his little touches that his arm on my waist isn’t even a charade.

“He’ll sleep on your room.” Damon answered.

When we arrived at the corridor of the master bedroom we momentarily stopped to discuss the matters on hand.

“Where do I get to sleep?” I snapped.

“On our room.” He ended the sentence with his usual stubborn voice.

“Don’t I get to choose?”

“Or you prefer to sleep with Damien instead? ”

Damien chuckled and Damon trashed him with a regular based annoyed look.

“How about this. You and Damien sleep together.” I appealed while giving him a coy smile.

He mock my smile that only annoyed me.

“No other debates. You and I will sleep together. And you Damien don’t make a fuss around here. Or worse bring some of your girls in here.”

Damien made a salute position, “Sir, yes sir.” He then entered my supposed to be room.

“Great.” I sighed while stomping my feet like a toddler.

“I’ll sleep on the floor.” He said softly.

Now my guilt is hunting me.

Oh heavens what am I gonna do with this man.
