Recruited a new sidekick
“Are you sure about this, Agent J?” her assistant asked.
Jenica raised the corner of her lips as she adjusted the fox mask on her face. She was standing in front of the vanity mirror, waiting for a call from Jobert. “Didn’t I teach you to be professional in your work? I don’t need an assistant who dictates me.”
“Sorry.”
Because the fox mask only covers half of her face, anyone could only see half of her sharp nose and full lips. She took out the n*de lipstick and applied it to her lips. “How’s Alex Fuego?”
“He was last seen by our spies at Fuego Hospital. After that, there’s no news about Mr. Fuego.”
“Really?” she asked, adjusting her hair. “Those babies can’t get their jobs done,” she sneered.
“The truth Agent J, our spies can’t get past Fuego Hospital. Not only on Fuego Hospital but all of Fuego Empire’s establishment.”
Jenica’s pupils constricted and she lowered the comb on the table. “Then… How did you trace him before?”
“Our spies successfully tailed him after he got out of Fuego’s establishment. But after that, we couldn’t reach him again.”
Jenica let out a sigh. “Leave him. What about the Antonete Enterprise?”
“Still no news, Agent J.”
“Oh, that’s interesting. As time passes, our intelligence department becomes incompetent. Should I report them to the head agent?” she joked, then looked down at her cell phone when it rang. Jobert has called. She expelled air. “Call me again if you have news, but don’t bother me with unnecessary calls.”
“Yes, Agent J.”
She took out the earpiece and answered the phone. “Hello, Jobert.”
On the other end of the line, Jenica heard Jobert’s faint laugh. “Doctor Acinea, I have dispatched my men to our agreed place.”
“OK, I’ll be there in a minute,” she said before hanging up.
Her hand reached for the keys and she drove away from the village where she was staying. She drove a car to the agreed-upon location with Jobert, which was only a few minutes’ walk from her village house. She got out of the car and looked at the nearby helicopter. It appears to have just landed.
“Doctor Acinea, I came to escort you as Governor Jobert instructed,” a man approached her and showed her his ID card. Jenica smiled and nodded to the man as she handed the car keys to the village housekeeper. She had already dispatched the old man to that location in order to drive her car back to the parking lot.
The man bowed respectfully to her. “This way, Doctor,” he said, pointing to the helicopter.
The helicopter quickly rose into the air and flew away. Jenica remained silent in the air, occasionally looking down. She was preoccupied with something.
The helicopter soon descended on a vast farm. The landing’s winds caused the pipes not far away to dance. Jobert’s men helped her down the stairs.
“Doctor Acinea!” exclaimed Jobert, as some of his staff approached her. “Welcome to my manor! Please follow me!”
She followed Jobert to the sprawling mansion in the heart of the hacienda. There are many trees nearby, and the cool breeze occasionally kisses her cheek.
“Where’s your wife?” she inquired of Jobert.
The man paused briefly before continuing his walk. “She’s in the other house, Doc.”
“I see.”
The maids were friendly to her. When she smiled at them, their cheeks flushed. Robert escorted her to a clean room.
“Are you okay with this room, Doctor?”
She nodded as she moved her gaze around. “It’s good.”
Robert smiled broadly and said goodbye, allowing her to rest. She just stared at his retreating back until the door closed behind her. Her smile had vanished from her lips.
She sat down on the bed and took out a scanner to scan the entire room. She didn’t leave anything out, including under the bed, the ceiling, and the personal bathroom. Everything is in order. In that room, there was no tap wire or hidden camera.
Jenica lay down on the soft bed and closed her eyes. Someone eventually opened the dancing curtain and jumped into the room.
“My great ancestor C has finally come,” Jenica said as she opened her eyes. “You’re late.”
Carlos sighed and sat in the chair next to the vanity mirror. “20 armed men, 10 maids, and 15 horsemen. There are two snipers on the top floor of the mansion. And a bulletproof armed vehicle inside the abandoned garage.”
Jenica smirked and raised her brows. “Just the same C I know,” she complimented.
“Of course. Who else will survey the area for you?” Carlos asked as he looked around the room. “Change your assistant in another country. It can’t even help you here.”
“Why? Can you help with intelligence?”
Carlos’ lips twitched slightly. “I found out something about Jobert’s wife.”
“Spill.”
“She is the daughter of an official in the capital. The two were childhood friends. Jobert first married the baranggay captain’s daughter in the next town, but a year later the woman died. Six months after the death of his first wife, Jobert married his current wife now. They have been together for two years but have no children.”
“Interesting,” she said, raising the corners of her lips and looking at Carlos. “Someone’s coming.”
Carlos dashed under the bed. Then there was a knock on the door. Jenica chuckled and walked to the door. She was still wearing a mask, so she felt at ease in public. When Jenica opened it, a maid appeared in front of her eyes. The girl was carrying a tray with tea, chocolate drink, and pandesals on it.
“Ma’am, have a snack first.”
Jenica grinned. “Thank you,” she said as she accepted the food tray that was handed to her. She shut and locked the door before walking over to the center table and placing the tray there.
Carlos dragged himself out of bed, a frown on his face. “Are you teasing me, Agent J?”
Jenica let out a soft laugh. “Did I tell you to hide under the bed?”
“Shh.” He approached the center table and took a pandesal. He took out a needle and inserted it into the soft bread. “No poison.” He also didn’t skip the tea and chocolate drink. “There’s no poison either. You can dig into it, Agent J.”
Jenica raised the corner of her mouth. “Why not be my sidekick in this mission?”Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
Carlos fixed his gaze on her. His pupils constricted. “What are you planning?”
But she didn’t respond and instead took out her phone. She instructed the assistant to submit a request to the head agent. She will use Agent C as a sidekick on the mission.
“Pack your things. Tomorrow, come here and introduce yourself as my assistant. I already got confirmation from the head agent office,” Jenica said, her smile widening.
“Say you’re just kidding, Agent J.”
She smiled as she shook her head and fell onto the bed. “You’ll complete this mission with me.”
Carlos’ eyes widened, his brow furrowed, and his face became solemn. Why is he having bad luck right now?
Agent J is one of the organization’s most despised secret agents because she makes her companion on missions a poison checker. Her partner in a high society mission fell into a coma during her last mission in Europe. Since then, no one wants to be Agent J’s partner, despite the fact that she has a 98 percent success rate in every dangerous mission assigned by HQ.
That’s why she only got a distant assistant who is only responsible for intelligence and cannot fight physically. Agent J has always invited only a few agents to accompany her on missions, so there are times when she has to do everything herself.
But Carlos has no idea why he found himself in front of Jobert’s mansion the next day. He’s dressed in a doctor’s gown, has thick glasses, braces on his teeth, and pimples on his face. He also has a suitcase that was popular during his grandparents’ time.
“This is my assistant, Kaloy, and he will be with me from now on,” Agent J said, a big smile on her lips. She gave him a sly look.
Carlos blushed and averted his gaze.
Because HQ has one rule for sidekicks: they must not draw attention to themselves or steal the spotlight from the main agents.
As a result, all of Agent J’s previous sidekicks were like ugly witches.
