Chapter 86
Chapter 86
Joseline stood above the stairs, placing her hand on the railing. Her protruding belly indicated she was seven or eight months into her pregnancy. However, she seemed to have been taking good care of herself and was in pretty good shape.
Angeline picked up the cup of coffee on the table and responded calmly, “Is there a problem for me to return to my own home?”
“Stop putting on an act in front of Grandpa. You didn’t come home to visit after returning to the country for such a long time. Do you even think of this place as your home? Don’t think I’m unaware of your motive for coming here.”
Joseline looked at Angeline warily, clenching her fists.
Ever since Angeline stirred trouble at her wedding previously, she finally realized how vicious the woman could be. She dared not underestimate Angeline, for fear that she would once again fall into the latter’s trap.
“Joseline, stop yelling at Angeline!”
Just then, Hanson exited the room. For a moment, he was in a daze when he saw Angeline’s delicate appearance.
“How can you side with her, Hanson?”
Joseline stomped her feet angrily. Pregnant women tended to be exceptionally sensitive, and Hanson’s attitude toward Angeline only served to make Joseline more uneasy.
Hanson got even more irritated upon seeing Joseline throwing a tantrum. Raising his voice, he snapped, “That’s enough!”
Angeline, on the other hand, ignored their dispute and maintained her composure while sipping her coffee. “Oh? What motive do I have? Pray tell.”
“You’re back for the shares Dad and Mom left behind, of course. I’ll never give them to you!” Joseline roared angrily as she stormed down the stairs, her high heels clicking imposingly on the steps.
“Leave! Now! I don’t want to see you.”
The sight of Angeline reminded her of the humiliation she suffered during the wedding.
Agitated, Joseline didn’t even bother to look at Wilfred, who was sitting on the couch, as she stepped forward to grab Angeline’s arm.
Thump!
A crisp noise echoed as Angeline slammed the cup in her hand on the table. A few droplets of hot liquid splashed out of the cup from the impact.
Startled by the sudden sound, Joseline paused as her face paled.
Standing up from the couch, Angeline stared straight into the other woman’s eyes with contempt. “What’s with your brazen attitude? Are you sure the company’s shares are yours?”
“You—”
Joseline couldn’t find the words to refute, and she dug her sharp nails deep into her palms.
She’s right. I’ve been managing the company for years, and all this while I’ve been wary of Angeline, but I’ve forgotten that Dad and Mom had never mentioned transferring the shares to me before they passed away.
Her expression changed, then she glanced at Wilfred before pointing at Angeline. “I knew you were up to no good when you came back this time. Grandpa is old. Have you no respect for your elder? Must you make him mad?”
Angeline crossed her arms and said apathetically, “Don’t try to change the subject. You desire to seize the shares because you’re worried you’d be kicked out of the company if another scandal broke out, right?”
Her straightforward words pierced deeply into Joseline’s heart.
Even Wilfred regarded her suspiciously upon hearing that. Infuriated, Joseline lifted her trembling hand and attempted to give Angeline a slap across the cheek. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
“Stop!”
Hanson grabbed her arm in time with a grim expression. “Stop messing around, will you?”
“Messing around?” Joseline struggled to break free from his grip. Aggrieved, she said, “Hanson, I’m pregnant with your child. Is this how you treat us?”
At the mention of the child, Hanson tamped down his anger. Glancing at Angeline in distress, he then reminded Joseline, “Joseline, Grandpa isn’t feeling too well lately. We should let him rest. Let’s go home.”
The mention of Wilfred reminded her that she still had her grandpa as support. Stomping her foot, she turned toward the old man and hugged his arm affectionately.
“Grandpa, please say something. You told me previously that I will be taking over the company.”
“Enough of that.” Wilfred furrowed his brows as a look of fatigue lined his face. “I’ll be heading back to my room to rest. Go ahead and have lunch without me.”
With that, he coughed into his fist for a few times before heading back to his room with the help of a housekeeper.
Since Wilfred had left, Angeline didn’t want to waste any more time lingering around. She grabbed her bag from the couch and walked out of the Sorelle residence without looking back.
Hanson watched her leave and subconsciously took a step forward, wanting to follow her.
“Don’t go after her.”
At that moment, Joseline gripped his sleeve and bit her lip in distress.
Hanson shot her an icy look and shook off her hand, insisting on leaving.
Joseline clutched the corner of her shirt as jealousy inundated her.
Why? Am I not nice enough to him? I even transferred my shares for the sake of his career. But he’s always distracted whenever he sees Angeline!
“Ah! My stomach hurts—”
Suddenly, Joseline screamed in pain while holding her stomach. Then, she slowly squatted on the ground.
When Hanson returned to her side upon hearing her cries of pain, she was relieved.
Luckily, he still cares for me and the child. This child is my final bargaining chip for now!
Angeline drove out of the Sorelle residence. After leaving the residential area, she turned around and drove toward the direction of Willowbank.
She remembered that her mother used to tell her that an elderly man was guarding the house and that she would be allowed to move in after she showed him the title deed.
Wishing to leave the Golding residence as soon as possible, she headed to the new house in a hurry, hoping to get everything settled as soon as possible.
Half an hour later, she arrived at her destination. After finding a place to park her car, she found her way to a quaint, small mansion by following the number plates.
The mansion was a two-story building, and there was a small garden at the entrance full of her favorite pink lilies. The relaxing fragrance lifted Angeline’s mood as she took a deep breath.
In the past, she was carefree and rich, so she couldn’t care less about the house. She didn’t even bother to come and take a look at it after its ownership was transferred to her.
As she looked around, she suddenly saw some men’s apparel hanging in the garden. The style of the apparel looked like it belonged to a young man.
Isn’t an elderly man guarding this place?
Knitting her brows, she made her way to the door and rang the doorbell.
Soon, the door was pushed open, and a handsome man came out yawning.
He didn’t recognize Angeline since she was wearing a cap and mask, so he asked curiously, “Who are you?”
Angeline, on the contrary, recognized him at first glance.
He was Stuart Chance, a rising star in the entertainment industry. As the lead dancer of MX Band, his charming looks earned him plenty of female fans.
“Are you mute? Speak up, or I’m shutting the door.” Stuart sounded impatient as he couldn’t stop yawning.
“Why are you living in this house?” Angeline asked solemnly.
“What kind of question is that? This is my house. I have the right to live here.” Stuart stared straight at her. He found something strange, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
Without thinking much, he slammed the door shut before Angeline could speak.
Angeline was still in shock. Who gave him the right to stay here? When did this house become his?
“Hello, miss. May I know who you are looking for?”
Just then, a man in his sixties with gray hair approached her with a basket in his hand, regarding her curiously.
