Chapter 234
Chapter 234
However, Angeline tried to stay calm as she trusted that, given Evander's capabilities, he would not do anything that would put himself in danger.
Despite knowing that, she could not stop feeling anxious that he was not picking up the phone.
Angeline was so exhausted that she fell asleep while thinking.
However, she was not able to get into a deep sleep. Her mind was filled with what had happened to Floretta, and she would jolt awake in fear from time to time.
Because of that, Angeline decided not to continue sleeping and got out of bed to prepare food for Floretta. After making a few simple and nutritious dishes, she started preparing ingredients to cook a pork stew.
Just as she was adding the broth and seasonings into the pot, tire kitchen door opened. Sebastian, who was wearing cartoon pajamas, looked at her sleepily as he nibbed his eyes.
Angeline's expression softened when she saw the boy. She smiled and asked gently, “Why are you awake? Did I wake you up?”
Sebastian shook his head and walked toward Angeline. With a serious and sincere look in his eyes, he grabbed the comer of the woman's blouse.
Angeline squatted and looked at Sebastian at eye level before asking smilingly, “Let me guess. You miss Floretta and want me to bring you along to the hospital, right?”
When Sebastian heard that, his furrowed brows relaxed, and he nodded firmly.
“All right. You can come with me to the hospital later.”
Angeline reached out and stroked the boy's head affectionately.
She was feeling uneasy about leaving Sebastian alone at home as Nancy was busy that day and was unable to take care of him.
Since the boy himself had requested to follow her to the hospital, all the more, there was no reason for Angeline to reject him.
After the stew was ready, Angeline packed the food into a thermal container before heading to the hospital with Sebastian.
The moment they reached the floor where Floretta's ward was located, they saw Francesca running along the corridor in a hurry.
Angeline immediately strode toward the caretaker and asked in concern, “Has Floretta woken up?”
A delighted smile spread across Francesca's face as she replied excitedly, “That's right, Ms. Sorelie. Ms. Floretta just woke up. I'm going to get the doctor now!”
When Angeline heard that, she put a hand to her chest and breathed a sigh of relief.
“That's great! Hurry up and get going. Let Evander know as well.” Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Thank goodness! She's finally awake!
Sebastian, who was standing next to Angeline, was overjoyed when he heard that. He let go of the woman's hand at once and dashed into Floretta's ward.
Angeline let out a sigh as she stared at the boy's back with a gentle gaze in her eyes.
She completely understood Sebastian's feelings.
After all, it was natural for good friends to miss each other- after being apart for some time.
Although Sebastian did not speak, he was incredibly perceptive and was very aware of what was going on.
Angeline followed behind tire boy. The moment she entered tire ward, she heard Floretta crying.
“Boohoo... Sebastian, I'm in so much pain. Am I already dead?”
Even though the girl's cries were heartbreaking, Angeline could not help but be amused by her words.
She looked over and saw Sebastian leaning against Floretta's bed while holding her hand tightly. He was shaking his head frantically as he tried to reply, but he could barely utter a few sounds. “Ahh... Ahh...”
Sebastian looked toward Angeline helplessly. When Angeline saw the pleading look on the boy's face, her- heart clenched.
She strode toward the boy at once and comforted, “Sebastian, don't worry. Floretta is fine.”
After hearing that, Sebastian studied Floretta carefully before nodding his head slightly.
A pained expression flitted across Angeline's face as she fixed her- gaze on the girl.
“Floretta, are you feeling better now?”
“Angel, it hurts so much!”
When Floretta saw Angeline, more tears spilled from her eyes.
In between sobs, she said, “I didn't even offend them. Wiry did they bully me...”
Angeline could feel her heart breaking into pieces. She let out a heavy sigh and stroked the girl's head while saying softly, “You did nothing wrong. You're a good girl. Don't cry.”
“Okay.” Floretta nodded obediently.
Suddenly, an alarmed expression appeared on her face.
“Angel, did you see a hair clip?”
“What hair clip?”
Angeline frowned as she did not understand what the girl was talking about. She had not seen any hair clip around. She could only watch as Floretta looked for it anxiously. In fact, the girl was panicking so much that her IV stand had almost toppled over.
Looking at Floretta with a worried expression, Angeline reminded, “Floretta, stop moving about. Be careful of hinting yourself!”
All of a sudden, the door swung open, and a deep, magnetic voice sounded.
“Is this the hair clip you're looking for?” Evander, who was wearing a gray jacket, said as he strode into the ward hurriedly.
Perhaps because he was walking briskly, Angeline could feel a gust of wind blow past as the man approached her.
Seeing that he was safe and sound, she heaved a sigh of relief, and the weight inside her heart finally lifted. At the same time, tears welled up in her- eyes.
Only then did Angeline realize how much she cared about Evander.
Meanwhile, Evander looked up and cast a comforting glance at the woman before walking toward Floretta's bed.
He spread his fingers slowly, revealing an exquisite cherry blossom hair clip in his palm.
Floretta's eyes lit up when she saw that. “My hair clip! Thank you. Daddy!” the girl exclaimed merrily.
Feeling puzzled, Angeline could not help but ask, “Floretta, isn't this just a normal hair clip? Why are you so happy?”
“Is it normal? I think it's quite pretty,” the girl replied, pouting.
A looked of dejection appeared on Floretta's face as her eyes dimmed.
“Floretta won this hair clip as a prize. She was intending to give it to you,” Evander explained calmly. He could feel the girl's disappointment when he noticed her expression.
Taking a pause, he continued, “She had been keeping it carefully and was waiting to give it to you when she saw you. However, Mark picked a fight with her out of jealousy and pushed her down the stairs during their argument.”
After hearing that, Angeline looked at Floretta, whose big eyes were brimming with tears, and felt her heart wrenching in pain.
What a silly girl.
Did my stubbornness rub off on her? Angeline could see some resemblance between Floretta and herself and wondered if it was a result of the time they had spent together.
“I'm sony, Floretta.” Angeline felt extremely apologetic.
She walked toward the girl and gave her a tight hug.
“I was wrong. I should have understood the situation before commenting. This hair clip is so pretty, and it is especially so because it's the first present you have given me! I love it so much. I'm really happy.”
“Really?” The frown on Floretta's face disappeared at once and was replaced with a wide smile. “Angel, I knew you would like it!”
Looking at the silly girl made Angeline's heart twinge. She did not expect herself to be part of the reason for Floretta's injury!
She felt deeply moved as she stroked Floretta's head lovingly.
Ever since her family members passed away, no one had treated her so sincerely.
To her, it was even more precious that it was coming from a little girl.
