Her Precious Baby

Chapter 229

Chapter 229

Suddenly, Evander rapped his fork on a plate in front of her. Tink!

Once again, Angeline returned to reality and looked up blankly at him.

“What’s wrong?” She was confused.

“What are you thinking about?”

Evander stared at her with an assessing gaze. She looked as if something was troubling her.

Angeline managed to look away in time and put on a nonchalant expression. She then looked down, stuffed some food into her mouth, and mumbled, “Nothing. It was a pretty lengthy phone call you had earlier on. We waited for quite a while because we didn’t dare to interrupt you.”

“I see.”

Evander took a prawn and started peeling it. He looked calm as he responded casually, “Just some work matters. The restaurant imported these prawns from overseas. They are very fresh indeed.”

“Okay. Thank you.”

Angeline acknowledged his words before swallowing the whole prawn from his fork.

The aroma of the prawn began to spread in her mouth, but it tasted like wax to her. She then sneaked a peek at Evander.

All she saw was his usual calm demeanor. It was as though he was not bothered by what she said.

However, the calmer he was, the more Angeline felt that he was hiding something. Jealousy rose within her.

It turned out that Evander had never stopped looking for that woman!

Moreover, many people in their social circle were aware that she was seeing Evander. Yet, he chose to hide the truth from her.

Does he really have no intention to tell me about Floretta’s biological mother?

During the entire dinner, both Evander and Angeline were busy with their own thoughts.

After the meal, Evander took them to a nearby shopping mall. Sebastian had only been discharged that day, and with Wilfred’s passing, there was no time for them to prepare anything.

After disguising herself, Angeline joined the shopping crowd, and no one could recognize her.

She proceeded to pick out the daily necessities for Sebastian and also some clothes for both the children before they left the mall. © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

Evander then sent Angeline and Sebastian home. As for Floretta, she still had to report to the kindergarten the next day. No matter how reluctant they were, they had to part ways for the time being.

Angeline brought Sebastian, who had been crying for a while, into the house. After opening the door and turning on the lights, there was still a musty smell coming from the house.

Worried that Sebastian might not be used to such a stench, she quickly ran in and opened up every window in the house.

Next, she looked at Sebastian who was standing upright by the door, and frowned.

“Sebastian, why aren’t you coming in?”

All she heard was silence. The boy looked up at her with reluctance. The very next moment, he threw the toy car he was holding and ran toward the door.

Angeline quickly stopped him and looked at him sternly.

“Where are you going?”

Sebastian frowned unhappily. He struggled to get away from her while crying out in pain.

“Stop moving,” Angeline scolded him softly.

It was only then she realized that Sebastian was a little extreme and unwilling to accept the new environment.

This is not a good sign!

With that thought in mind, Angeline gave his arm a squeeze and reminded him with a serious face, “Remember, from today onward, this is our home. You can do anything you want here, but you have to accept the house.”

There was no room for negotiation.

Sebastian was frightened by her and began to tremble. His teary eyes looked dazed.

Angeline could not help but feel sorry for him. She regretted saying those harsh words to him.

In the end, she took his tiny hand and led him back into the house. She then patiently explained to him the function of the living room and how things worked.

Next, she took Sebastian to the second bedroom and said with a smile, “Sebastian, this will be your room in the future. I will have it decorated according to your liking in the next few days. You like racecars. Why don’t I design a bed that looks like a car for you?”

Sebastian was still without expression, but he started to check out the room.

Angeline was worried that he would not be satisfied, so she added, “If you are creative, you can also draw your own design. I’ll get the carpenter to build the bed according to your idea.”

Sebastian turned and looked at her with a solemn expression.

Angeline was stunned momentarily. Despite her age, she was unable to figure out what the child was thinking.

After pondering over the matter, she decided to play it safe and said cautiously, “Sebastian, I’m your mommy. If you need anything in the future, you can let me know. I’ll do my best to fulfill your wishes…”

Just as she finished talking, Sebastian placed his arms around her neck and gave her a tight embrace.

“T-Thank you!”

He expressed his gratitude in such a shy and soft voice that it was nearly inaudible.

When Angeline heard him, her body quivered slightly. She could not believe her ears, so she lifted Sebastian’s face just to be sure.

“Were you talking to me just now?”

In that instant, Sebastian’s face turned red. He looked down and nodded.

“That’s wonderful! You finally said something!”

Angeline was excited beyond words. Once again, she reached out and embraced him.

Sebastian froze. However, a while later, he also patted Angeline’s back with his tiny hands.

In truth, the doctor from the hospital had told her that Sebastian was able to speak. He simply isolated himself from the world because of what had happened in the past.

If she could help Sebastian achieve a breakthrough, he would be able to regain his ability to speak.

Initially, Angeline thought it would take a long time before she could hear Sebastian talk. She did not expect it to happen so soon.

Angeline took him to the washroom to wash up and change into his pajamas. It was his first night in the house, so he clung on to her pants tightly and refused to let go.

Thus, Angeline had no choice but to let him sleep in her room with her.

It took a long while before she managed to coax him to sleep. By that point, Angeline could no longer stay awake. Just as she was about to turn off the lights, she heard an agonized cry from Sebastian.

“Ah!”

In an instant, Angeline was no longer sleepy. She turned around and looked at him with concern. “Sebastian, are you okay? Are you feeling unwell?”

Instead of answering her, the boy kicked his blanket away and curled up into a ball as if something had frightened him.
