HER BABY’S DADDY

She’s Janis Walter!

“She’s wasted.”

“Truly wasted. I told you, didn’t I?”

“Indeed, you did. But, how did you know she’d be here?”

“You forgot I visit this bar frequently? I spotted her one time here and decided to keep tabs on her.”

“You did well, more so calling me at the right time.”

“Shall we seize this opportunity? There’s no one watching us right now.”

“Of course.”

He picked up Janis’s purse.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

“This purse should cost quite a lot, why don’t we take it?”

“Or we could take the diamond necklace instead. It definitely would cost more than the purse and everything in it.”

“That’s a good idea too, But why not take the two? What’s stopping us?”

The man smirked.

“I agree. It’s not like she’d remember anything since she’s so drunk. And no one is likely to stop us, because out of habit… Our dear miss Janis has chosen a rather dark spot like the other times.”

“Yes, and the music is loud too. Everything’s favourable.”

The conversation ended as abruptly as it had started.

Just as Janis was about to be robbed, a heavy hand landed on that of the guy who already laid his hands on Janis’s neck and had his fingers on the necklace clasp.

“You’re wrong. Not everything’s favourable.”

“Who are you?”

“A designated driver. Probably hers.” He answered simply.

“How dare an ordinary driver like you come to stop us?”

“Because I’m here to stop you both from robbing my client.”

“What?!”

“Rob?”

The two thieves asked simultaneously.

“Yes. Rob.” The stranger repeated.

“Is he trying to joke with us?” The second guy huffed and whispered into the first guy’s ear.

“I’m not trying to joke here, but if you want to take it that way it’s fine by me as well.”

“Is he drunk as well?”

“All I know is you’re not laying a hand on my client’s belonging, she has to pay me after I drive her to her destination.”

“Oh, he finally spoke up. He needs money.” The second guy giggled.

“If it’s money you want, we’ll split the profit on a 90 – 10 percentage scale.” The first guy bargained.

“I think you don’t understand what I’m saying at all!” The guy who claimed to be a driver yelled over the loud music.

In the shadows, The bartender saw three figures moving, and they were around Janis’s table. This was exactly what he always feared.

She always dressed too well, so well, she always stood out in the crowd, so it was no news if those people were trying to rob her.

He could do nothing himself, so he went out for a bit and came back with security.

“What’s going on here?” The bartender asked immediately he got to Janis’s table with the security men.

“These two… They were trying to rob her.”

Hearing the strange man accuse both of them, the two had no choice but to turn on their heels to flee, but fortunately, the security men were faster.

“Who are your tender asked facing the other guy.

“Oh me? I’m just a designated driver. My client here called for a driver.” The guy explained.

“So Janis ordered a driver before getting drunk. That explains why she threw all caution to the wind today.” The bartender muttered to himself.

He looked at Janis, and then at the guy whose face he couldn’t see clearly because of the dim light.

“Alright. Take her home, I need to go hand over those thieves to the police.”

“I sure will.” The guy answered and bent to pick Janis up.

He couldn’t carry her because she had quite some weight, so he just slung her hand around his neck and held her waist, walking her out.

When they got outside, the security men stopped him.

“Who are you?”

“Jax Storms.”

“Where are you taking the miss?”

“Home.”

“Who are you to her?”

“Her designated driver.”

“Show me your ID.”

“What? ID? So I need an ID to take someone home?” He scoffed.

“Correction, she’s not just ‘someone’, so you need an ID before taking her.”

“If you all were so concerned about her safety, why on earth did you leave such expensive items on her with no one by her side to look out for her?” Jax scoffed angrily.

“Because the miss doesn’t get so drunk that she can’t understand what’s going on around her.”

“I see. But, she’s still female, okay?”

A security man stepped forward and hit Jax on his cheek.

“Never let the miss hear you saying that. No. You must never say such a thing, ever, you understand?”

“Why? It’s not like she’s Janis Walter, Okay?” Jax rolled his eyes at them.

At that moment, Janis pushed her eyes open.

“I’m Janis Walter.” She muttered sleepily, before drifting off to sleep again.

Jax looked at her and sneered.

“You wish.”

Jax looked up at the security men and saw them boring holes into his body.

“Don’t tell me… She’s really…”

The security men nodded and Jax opened his mouth in surprise.

No wonder why those men tried to steal from her. She had quite a lot.

If he had known beforehand he’d have just allowed them to steal a little from her since they were poor and probably needed the money more than she did.

He was no righteous person.

He didn’t believe in religious stuff so it’d have been a fair deal to have allowed those two to steal from this lady.

“But, they didn’t look as poor as I’m imagining it in my mind right now. Well, whatever! It’s not my business.” He mumbled.

“Why are you here?”

“I mentioned it earlier.” Jax snorted.

“I’m here to do my job.”

“And what’s your job?” The security man asked, and Jax could swear he was doing it on purpose just to frustrate him.

“To drive cars, cars that belong to others for money, in hope that someday, I’ll buy mine.”

“Good. Now go do your job.”

Although Jax had convinced himself not to get involved in Janis’s business, he couldn’t help but think some more.

From the way those men planned to rob Janis, it meant they had monitored her movements in the bar, and that meant she was a regular there.

The security men confirmed it without even knowing as they spoke with him.

‘JANIS WALTER CONFIRMED TO BE A REGULAR AT POPULAR OUTSKIRT CLUBHOUSE.’

If this got out, it’d be a hot topic for about a week or two. Just the title was interesting and would capture the eye of anyone.

It was very tempting…

… The urge to be the first to leak that!
