CAUGHT IN BETWEEN FINN AND ZANE

Rita’s POV

We left my parents’ place the following morning haven had breakfast with them.

My lovely mother had packed a lot of dishes for Finn and I because Finn enjoyed it.

We deserve an accolade for pulling up a great act that my parents didn’t suspect something wrong. But now, they love Finn so much and I’ll break their heart when I bring home another man, next time; anyways till then.

“It was really really stressful right?” I broke the awkward silence in the car.

“It’s worthwhile” He replied and I smiled.

“Your parents are very nice and sweet” He remarked.

“Thank you” I said.

“You can have all the dishes by the way as an extra thanks for coming” I added and he nodded..

“You know what I really want Rita” He said, taking his gazes off the steering and stared at me romantically instead.

I gasped; “Finn, you promised we won’t be discussing this issue again, I have told you times without number, I cannot … we cannot …”

“Hey! Calm down, come on Rita, chill; I’m talking about the date. Let’s have a dinner date tonight”

“Ohh.. of course, I promised you a date” I stammered, a little embarrassed.

“So I’ll come pick you up by 7pm, make me drop dead, I wanna see you in a super lovely outfit like that of yesterday, Oh My God! You are extremely stunning” He complimented and I blushed secretly.

“You didn’t look bad yourself Finn, nice haircut, designers suit and shoes, looks so good on you ” I said honestly, I admired his look; I never noticed how gorgeous he was until lately. Gosh!

“So you’re saying I’m very handsome?” He grinned.

“I’m complimenting you because you complimented me”

“Oh wow, so it’s not genuine; it’s give and take” He put on a frown.

“It is genuine, come on. You are handsome Finn, you’re so cute, happy now?” I said and he chuckled.

“Do you think I am more handsome than that your boyfriend, uhm Zane or what’s his name?” He teased.

“Hmmm” I was dumbfounded for a while.

I really don’t know how Zane looks yet.

“You are beautiful ” He suddenly uttered when I didn’t say anything.

Then, there was a total silence for a while.

“Rita, the kiss we shared yesterday, are you sure it didn’t mean anything to you? I kissed you first, accepted, but that was a mistake but then you kissed me back, you didn’t want to let go and you claimed it’s nothing”

“Finn, we shouldn’t be talking about it. Let’s act like nothing happened, that’s what I’m doing please”

“Can I ask you a question Rita?”

I didn’t say anything.

“As it should be” I replied.

“But he is someone you haven’t even met”

“I haven’t seen a picture of him either” I confessed, seeing no reason why I should hide that fact away from him.

“What?” He exclaimed, he adjusted the steering and drove slowly by the road side; so he could talk to me comfortably.

“At the end of the day, what if this so called guy you’ve spent almost all your life being loyal to fucks up? As in.. he breaks your heart?” He interrogated me.

I kept mute.

“I know you love him so much and I’m sure he probably loves you too. But just so you know, in every broken relationship, the couple were once in love with each other and one day , something happened, they had to go their separate ways, ” He continued.

I was confused. I didn’t know if he was only trying to gaslight me so I could give him a chance yet what he said made real sense all along.

What if after spending my whole life being faithful to Zane and then he breaks my heart and we eventually had to part ways.

I shook my head continuously as if I was trying to shake off the thought.

“Just saying ” Finn muttered.

“Finn, If I decide to date you …uhm,” He seemed eager to hear from me. “You could eventually break my heart or I break yours and we’ll become strangers again”

He opened his mouth in awe, surprised to hear such a brilliant tackling response from me but I continued anyways; “And by doing so, we’ll lose this friendship which I cherish so much” I divulged, looking at him.

“There are ups and downs in relationships and uhm.. friendships” He nodded.

“So let’s hope such would never ever happen” I concluded, stealing gazes at him while he focused on the road.

I picked up my phone, had the urge to call Zane because I have missed him so much. He had tried to reach me last night while I was already asleep. I didn’t tell him I would go awol for this long plus I lied to him, I haven’t been sincere to him all this while. Am I a cheat?

Finn dropped me in front of my house, I opened the door myself and alighted quickly when I noticed he was about to do so as if I were his girlfriend.

“Don’t forget we have a dinner night” He reminded and I nodded, heading into the house.

My head kept pondering on what he told me earlier but I didn’t make it so obvious to him.
