Chapter 48
I INTRODUCED FINN TO MY PARENTS
Rita’s POV
I didn’t inform Zane that I have found someone to substitute him, Finn, my CEO, the one whom he so much detest. Instead, Zane believed that I must have canceled the meeting with my parents.
However, Canceling the meeting seemed even more suspicious because my mom will continue pestering the hell outta me to show them my partner and they might eventually find out themselves that I’ve got no physical partner. Therefore, to avoid all these further dramas, I’ll take Finn home to clear the air once and for all and when next they wanna meet Finn, I’ll announce to them that we’ve broke up and we’ve gone separate ways and I’m now with Zane.
What a brilliant idea!
I ignored Zane’s messages to make plans ahead with Finn the night before the D-day.
“Hello Finn”
“Hello Rita” He sounded sleepy.
“I’m sorry for disrupting your sleep”
“Uhmmmn”
“Okay so, since we are having a dinner at my parent’s place, I think you should come over to pick me up at my place tomorrow evening firstly” I suggested.
“Yeah, sure. I gat you Rita. I planned this already”
“Good, uhmm I really want us to go together like a um.. Co-couple” I stuttered the word.
“Yeah, couple. I love how that sounds” He remarked
“So bye, I’ll keep in touch with you tomorrow ” I ended the call and heaved a sigh of relief, hoping everything will be fine.
I stared at my phone screen and noticed that I have missed several calls from Zane, I called him so he wouldn’t get suspicious about anything.
“Hello bouncy baby boy” I teased him.
“Oh look who decided to check up on me after ignoring all my messages and calls” He said.
“I’ll never Ignore you Zane. I was just busy” I lied.
“Ugh! So what’s more important than me?”
“There you go again, Jellyfish!” I rolled my eyes as if he could see me.
“Well, tomorrow is another Saturday for us to spend the time alone, free from work as usual” He said.
“Oh, tomorrow ” I muttered. “Err… Zane, I… erm, I will be very busy tomorrow”
“Busy?” He exclaimed.
“Yeah, uhm… actually, there’s this twelve hours virtual ladies meeting with Janet Johnson” I thought of a lie but I couldn’t come up with a better lie at that moment.
“Twelve hours virtual meeting with Janet Johnson?” He exclaimed.
“Yeah” I responded, I hoped that he’ll buy the lie without investigating further.
“Twelve hours is way too much”
“Yeah, yeah, you are right but it’s Twelve hours”
“Okay” He accepted, sounding so low.
Oh finally,
“So uh, good night and sweet dreams”
“What do you mean Good night already? We usually discuss till midnight.
“I feel drowsy Zane” I yawned.
He huffed sadly, “Okay, talk to you later. I mean, whenever you’re ready to talk to me; I miss you already” He spoke solemnly.
“Same here Zane”

My mom had called me very early the following morning to remind me that we had an appointment. Oh great that I took it seriously and I already plan with Finn ahead.
I jostled out a very beautiful outfit from the wardrobe. It was still the newest and the most beautiful outfit in my closet.
It was a new bodycon gown with delicate lace details which I bought recently because I wanted to wear to Canada for Zane.
As I slipped into the bodycon gown, its stretchy fabric hugged my curves in all the right places, accentuating my femininity by highlighting my elegantly shaped figure – eight and the opened design revealed the smooth expanse of my fair skin that shone brightly. I loved it.
I adorned my wrist and waist with beautiful jewelries to sum it up.
While I sat in front of the mirror, I reminded myself that I was a stylist and a retired make up artist. Therefore, I did justice to my look too; started with; styling my hair myself, leaving out curling strands cascading down my shoulders but framing my face perfectly. With a touch of rosy blush on my cheeks and a subtle smokey eye.
My features were enhanced, exuding confidence and allure.
I grabbed a matching handbag and sprayed some perfume, the scent lingered in the air; adding a touch of romance to the overall look.
I knew I looked so different today compared to my usual mode of dressing whenever I went to the office. Now imagine having to do all this unnecessary posh dress- up and make up only to work at the office tirelessly. Ugh!
I glared at the wall clock, Finn should be here by now.
I looked through the window but didn’t see him coming. While awaiting his arrival, I slipped on a pair of elegant stilettos that elongated my legs, giving me an extra boost of elegance then I headed out the door.
“Finn, where are you?” I dialed his number.
“I am very sorry to disappoint you Rita, you might have to go alone. Something suddenly came up, I.. I am sorry”
Jeez! I disconnected the call before he finished speaking.
“Oh shit! Shit! Shit!” I fretted, pacing around because I didn’t know what next to do.
I should never ever trust Finn. He has always disappointed me right from time and he thinks everything is all about compensation thereafter. Darn him! I hate him!
Finn could have called me earlier and told me that he won’t make it. Then I could have found another substitute within the short period instead of relying on him. Jeeez!
My phone buzzed, I thought it was Finn but it was my mom.
Geez! How do I tell her that I cannot make it today anymore.
I watched the phone ring till it ended, it began to ring again, I finally picked it up after hesitating.
“Hello mommy” I responded coldly. I call her mommy in full whenever I’m in no mood to exchange words.
“You should be on your way by now, the weather doesn’t seem too friendly, there might be a heavy downpour tonight” She said.
I looked up at the climate, the cloud darkened.
“Yeah. I.. I uhm… I am on my way” I lied.
“See you soon!” She hung the call.
I sighed heavily, I guess I’d go alone and find a better excuse why I couldn’t come with Finn.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
I made my way towards the roadside to board a cab.

As I alighted from the cab by the roadside and walked closer towards the entrance door of my parent’s house. I racked my head inwardly, searching for a lie to tell them but I couldn’t reach one.
My mom and Dad came out of the house before I rang the doorbell.
“Daughter!” My mom exclaimed, throwing her arms over my neck.
“Mom” I embraced her and did the same to Dad. “Daddy” I missed him more, I hear from Mom almost all the time. But Dad? He let me be the grown up daughter that I was unlike mom who still checked up on me like I was a teenager.
“I have missed you daughter” My Dad said.
“I missed you a lot more Dad” I said, while we disengaged.
“Hello handsome” My mom said,
“Oh, I see you finally came with your boyfriend” My Dad added.
“Ugh!” I quickly looked behind me.
Only to see Finn…
