A NEW JOB

Rita’s POV

“So how may I help you?”

“Our profound appreciation. We received our letters from the secretary, we are here to express our gratitude” Evelyn spoke first.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

“It is nothing I can’t handle. Don’t mention” Finn said.

“Thank… you so much” I muttered, still baffled about Alex not being Jared.

“I’m glad your mood is better than yesterday” Finn said, I put on a little smile.

“You can leave now, enjoy the rest of your day”

We turned to go.

“No, I was talking to Evelyn” He gestured that she should leave us alone.

“Ugh! Again” I heard her murmured before she exited.

“Congratulations on your new Job” Finn got on his feet, stroded over to stand face to face with me.

“Thanks to you” I mumbled.

“Still mad at me?”

“Not at all” I smiled.

“You know I would do anything at all to make you happy. I hate myself each time I hurt you” His face was filled with guilt.

“It’s.. in the past now” I replied simply

“Wondered why I promoted your friend too?” I nodded; ” She’s your best friend, and you two will make a great team”

“Also, I noticed the look on your face yesterday when I decided to transfer just you. You were half excited, oh such a selfless person you are” Finn said.

“Discomforting yourself to comfort others, that’s what you’re doing” I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at his playful remark, unable to hide the slight blush creeping up my cheeks.

“Anything for you” He smiled, drawing nearer to me.

Somehow, I felt like I am leading him on. Also, guilt gnawed at my conscience, whenever he went out of his way to grant my heart desires and make me satisfied, a part of me felt a mixture of gratitude and remorse.

In his eyes, I could see the spark of hope and adoration, the way he looks at me with such longing and affection. But deep down, I knew I couldn’t fully reciprocate to those feelings.

Poor CEO Finn, as handsome and financially stable as he was, he can’t find love.

Finn is a perfect man and he is every girl’s dream, so I questioned myself, trying to understand why I couldn’t possibly feel the same way towards him, the answer I got was that it was just a bad timing.

He held my both hands like he has something to say, but I cut in before he could speak.

“I… uhm, you know… I gotta go to my office now” I released my hand from his and walked outta his office.

Evelyn and I skimmed through the journals together, we realised that there’s more task to do than just sitting in front of a monitor. Well, it wasn’t as hectic as our former job; plus this one is more prestigious and it requires dressing cooperate each and every day..

Also, I figured that I will be visiting Finn’s office more often to submit the daily updated files to him.

We spent half of the day introducing ourselves to our new colleagues and getting to know each other better. While I was still hiding in my shells, Evelyn already made new friends.

During the recess period, Adam came over so we called walk down to the office cafeteria together. Our clique was pretty popular that no other person could join us. And of course, Evelyn and Adam have other friends they relate with but when it comes to tete -a – tete conversation or secrets, it’s just we three.

“Are you guys enjoying your new place of work?” Adam inquired.

We’ve never followed the ‘Do not talk while eating rule, lunch period is a period for us to keep chit chatting’.

“Yup! The environment is cool and the staffs there are actually nicer than we thought. All these while, I thought they were arrogant freaks but they made us feel very welcome” Evelyn talked enthusiastically.

“Also, we almost didn’t work at all; see how energetic we are unlike how weary we become after attending to a client at our previous section”

“Evelyn” I cut in. ” We have got a lot of work to do after this recess”

“Well, it’s nothing compared to our former hefty work. Funny how I look forward to this one” She said. Even Adam who asked the question didn’t probe further but he looked somewhat apprehensive while Evelyn on the other hand seemed genuinely excited and contented.

“Adam, didn’t you say thank you to Zane?” I asked.

“What for?”

“The increment in salary of course” Evelyn said.

“That’s normal for a boss to do” Adam replied.

Evelyn and I glared at eachother, surprised at his ungrateful attitude.

“You’re still mad that you weren’t promoted?” I asked.

“Not really” He said. “Listen Rita, I am concerned about a whole lot of thing. Especially what is currently going on this office, this will never end well”

We didn’t understand what he meant neither did it correlated with the question he was asked.

“What do you mean?” We asked simultaneously.

But just then, Finn approached our table.

“Hello, I’ve come to join you guys” Said Finn, sitting next to me.

“May I?”
