Chapter 10
Alley cats
My heart dropped into my stomach. “Pierce?”
“His assistant.” She mouthed as she extended the phone to me.
Relief washed over me. “Trevor.” I said in greeting
“Miss Myra. I was hoping Hannah would pass on this message, but I guess It’s my lucky day.” He said flatly. Always with the sass. “Mr. Blackwood wants me to let you know of an appointment with him
tomorrow.”
I don’t have any.”
“Well you do now. Be in his office by 10 am–and Myra? Let’s try not to get on his nerves by refusing to show up. we both know how he gets.”
The phone went dead in my hand. Trevor was well suited to Pierce.
“Well?” Hannah asked:
“Pierce “ordered‘ me to show up at his office tomorrow.”
Hannah whistled. “We both knew this was coming. Cutting Pierce Blackwood out of your life is going to be near impossible. He practically owns the studio you’re working in. I won’t be of much help but do you want me to come with you?”
o me.”
I sighed. “No, it’s fine. it’s not like he’s going to do anything to
“You just have to relax, don’t have any crazy reactions like you did with the drink tonight, and give yourself a minute before you let words come out of your mouth okay?”
“God, it sounds like you’re preparing me for an interview.”
She shrugged, “This is just as important.” She lowered her voice. “Are you sure you’re not going to tell him about the baby? He might not have the reaction you think.”
“Yes Hannah, I’m sure.”
“Alright.” She conceded and embraced me.
I watched their car leave before I turned to enter the apartment. When I climbed the stairs, the hairs on my neck stood on end and I could not shake the feeling that someone was watching me. I glanced around but the street lights revealed nothing strange.
Suddenly a cat jumped onto a vehicle across from me and hissed before it took off again. Alley cats. They were always in one fight or another. I took a deep breath and pushed the door open.
My hands twisted together in a tight knot, my eyes glued on the floor display as it ticked upwards.
In my mind, I fantasized about it getting stuck. So I would not have to step out and see Pierce. I had delayed this visit for as long as I could already by performing random tasks around the house and mostly getting in the way of mum’s nurse. I knew she was happy when I finally left
The elevator door slid open when they had reached the final floor, revealing a stunningly spacious area. The entire floor housed Pierce, his secretary and personal assistant.
The secretary smiled with recognition when she sighted me.
“Miss Myra, you can head right in.” After I returned her smile, she continued flipping through her magazine.
My first memories of visiting Pierce here were fresh in my mind. The thrill I felt to walk through these very doors. Knowing that out of the multitude of women he could have, he chose me.
The glee and excitement at walking through the doors knowing that I would have stolen kisses with him behind his office doors.
Now, the memories filled me with embarrassment for my past self. I was too caught up in the whirlwind that was Pierce to see how naive I was. If only I had a Time Machine…
I strolled into Trevor’s office
His eyes were already narrowed into slits when I walked in. “Of course Mr. Blackwood.” He said with a finger on his intercom. When he released it he rounded the table and gave me a once over.
“I would scold you about being here forty minutes past your appointment, but I’m sure Mr Blackwood has prepared his own lecture already.” He helped me open the heavy door and stepped aside for me to enter. “Try not to upset him more, it’ll make the rest of my day a living hell.”
I gave a quick nod before I moved inside the office. The door closed softly behind me.
The sight of Pierce behind the sleek marble table, with his jaw set in a familiar line and his eyes watching me, forced another memory to surface and I was struck by how little he had changed while we were together.
We were on the same terms in that area, the flutter in my chest confirmed that I was still drawn to him like I was the first time I was here, like a moth to a flame.
I pushed my feelings behind a wall and put on a blank stare. I made the right choice leaving Pierce, and I needed to stick with it no matter the outcome of this visit.
It would hurt… who was I kidding? It hurt. But I needed to stop lying to myself. No more naive and dreamy Myra.
“You finally decided to show up. What kept you so busy, Myra?” He asked as his eyes followed my
movement.
I stopped opposite him, clearly refusing a seat. Pierce raised his brow at me and leaned back, arms crossed. Our eyes clashed in silent challenge. Pierce might have had his way during the party but I was unprepared. Here I had enough time to steel my nerves in time for this conversation.
Even with my steely exterior I could still admire the Godlike man that sat opposite me.
“I was home. Working, the house sorta fell apart without me and I’m trying to fix it up.” Earlier, I determined that the less lies I told the better for my memory. It would be easy to keep track.
“What home?”

“My home.” I highlighted. “The one with my family.”
“Is that where you were last night?” He asked, rising from his desk. A sitting Pierce I could handle, I wasn’t sure about how I felt about him in my face. I wondered if he had gone to the flat he had rented for me and was pissed he couldn’t find me.
With every step Pierce took towards me I took in a steadying breath. He said nothing till he stopped right in front of me, and with every inhale and exhale, the intoxicating smell of leather and earth settled over me like a blanket.
“Did Adams happen to give you a ride? after you rejected one from me.” His voice darkened at the last
sentence.
A heady mix of fear and arousal swirled in the pit of my belly. I had never given Pierce a reason to be jealous. Seeing that reaction in him fed a depraved part of me.
“Jealous?” I threw his comment at the party back at him.
He let out a dismissive chuckle, disproving my question. As if that wasn’t insulting enough, he went on. That’s a stretch Myra, I don’t like sharing my toys, and I see that you’re acting like a child. Throwing yourself around just to get my attention, it’s disgusting and pathetic. So answer my question.”
“He offered a ride, and I was tempted to take it, but like I told you, I already made plans with Hannah.”
“Is there something between you two? Is that why you think you can end us?”
He put his hands behind me, on the table and let me see the fury burning in his eyes.
“We’re just friends. And if I plan on changing that in the future, it’s none of your concern.”
His hand inched up my arm and up to my neck where he caressed the fluttering pulse at my neck.
“Whatever happens to you is my concern. I own you, and right now, little pet, you’re pissing me off.”
His hands tightened on my throat, as his mouth seized mine in a possessive kiss.
