Chapter 22

" You are out of your mind, Xander. You have no idea how much you wanted this marriage to work out. It's Veronica's dream too and you wanna shatter it just like that. You are not calling off the wedding. It's going to happen on the same day we arranged." His father strictly told, forgetting that Xander's not himself. Xander trying to communicate with them and they are crossing their limit.

" I'm not marrying a stranger. You say you understand me but you really don't. You could never understand unless you are in my place. My answer is no. Do what you can or leave this room? Thanks for visiting me and stressing me my dumbing me with this marriage issues." Xander shouted, taking a pill and a glass of water.

" You can't take these pills now, Xander," I warned him, getting it away from him. They are driving him mad and making him take some pills at the wrong time. I can't imagine him without anyone to take care of. He's really losing his mind.

" Give it back, Madison," He ordered me.

" No, I know when to give these pills. You need to calm down." I told as his parents and Henry watched me without speaking. I wish I know what they are thinking.

" Okay. How about this? We are not taking you anywhere but we will find a way to help you get your memories back. There must be a way. There are a lot of people who been through this. Some of them found a way out of this. You will too. Till then, promise me one thing. Take some time and tell me that you will marry Veronica. We will give you enough time and can even postpone it. But we are not cancelling it." His father asked him again. He's not ready to give up.

" Since you are my parents I don't want to hurt you. But will you please get out of here now?" Xander asked as respectfully as he can.

" We will go out. Just say the word that you will take time and decide later," His mother asked this time. I have to say something to get them out before Xander....

" Get. out. now." He yelled, pointing his hand at the door. Both of them are embarrassed by their son's response. They shouldn't have pushed him too far. He hasn't even recovered yet.

They left the room without a word. Henry looked back and forth and he left too. Maybe I should go out too. He must be needing some alone time.

" I guess you need some time. I will just go talk with Henry. Take this pill at night." I kept it on the table and hoped he would talk something. His silence tells that he wants to be alone. I left the room and found Henry standing outside. But Xander's parents already out of sight.

" Hey, did they left?"

" Yeah, I'm doubting whether they will come back after this," Henry folded his arms, looking at the wall.

" They are his parents. They will come back for him but they shouldn't push him to do something he hates."

" It's not in our hands. But you know what, I'm kinda glad if the wedding gets cancelled," Henry said. I never wished for it to happen, even though I love Xander.

" They have been together for years, Henry. Why do you want it to be cancelled?"

" Even after I exposed that footage, they are still together until the day he got in an accident."

" If that's what you are thinking, then you are wrong. There are a lot of ups and downs in their relationship. It exists in all relationship. But here all fault lies on Veronica. She says she loves him and messes up every time. Who many times can he forgive her? He forgives her every time. He doesn't deserve that type of love. It's better this way." Henry said. He cares about his friend. I can give up on

Xander if he has a good relationship with Veronica and he's happy with her. But now it's all a lie. She's not keeping him happy. She never did.

" His parents drove him mad today. What will happen if Veronica visits him? That bothers me, Madison." Henry told his fear. That's my fear all this time.

" I don't want to think about this. She's still not here."

" She will be soon. Now, his parents wrecked his mood. He will not be interested to see me. I will come back tomorrow. Tell him I won't bug him to marry Veronica. Tell him that it's better if he doesn't marry her. It's better to avoid the problem instead of regretting it later." Henry walked aside, ready to leave.

" You want me to tell him this?" I asked in doubt.

" Yeah, I'm sure. He made a wrong decision once. Atleast, I can help him do the right thing."

" We haven't talked that much in these years. When he's discharged and everything's back to normal, visit me. I will share my address." Henry left with those words. Nothing happened much between Henry and me since I left the town years ago. It's still the same.

I looked back at the window to find Xander staring at me. I entered his room again and didn't try to engage him in a conversation unless he wants to. The one visit from his parents spoiled his whole day. He's not even ready to read a book with me.

" Will they come back tomorrow?" Xander asked me as we both sat in the bed lost in thoughts.

" They won't. Atleast for some days."

" That's good for now. I hope they understand me sooner or later. Even after today, if they don't respect my decision, I will go against it."

" Maybe you should. That's what Henry told me to tell you,"

" Really? what makes him say this?" He eagerly asked.

" Henry thinks she's wrong for you. He believes you made a better decision."

" What do you think?" What do I think? Veronica made my life miserable and everyone who knows her and she's not the right one for you. And you hate me because you trusted her and never got a chance to know me until now.

" I don't know her. I can't say anything," I lied as this is all I can say for now.

" Okay. Let's forget the name. I had enough of this for today. I want to ask you something. I know I already did and you weren't ready to share..."

" You are talking about my sister's death and my past. I thought of saying it too. The only person I ever shared about it was Sofia. She's my best friend." I told him. I shared it with Veronica too and that was the wrong thing I did in my life.

" You can share it with me too. You have tears in your eyes every night. You have been dreaming about her all these years. I wish you could sleep a single day without a nightmare."

" I'm crying every day? How do you know?"

" You are sleeping next to me, Madison. From the day we stayed in my house, I notice you waking up with tears. Sometimes, I hold you, telling you everything is alright. You get better after some minutes. You don't have to go through it alone. I'm here for you. " Xander got me emotional after a long time. I

lost trust in people after dealing with Veronica and now Xander is bringing it back.
