Chapter 406
Being the second person in the world capable of curing cancer was bound to elevate Susie's status significantly.
Yet, Susie, blessed beyond measure, was unaware of her fortune. "No, I need to be responsible for my patients. I can't trust anyone else with them." Director Clement tried to persuade her, "Doctor, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I really hope you'll consider it."
Susie, with a hint of disdain, replied, "Thank you for your kindness, Director Clement, but please, save this opportunity for someone who needs it." Seeing her stance, Director Clement didn't push further. Instead, he asked the room, "So, who here is willing to volunteer to lead Team A?"
Silence filled the room.
No one spoke up.
It seemed unbelievable to them that anyone could cure cancer.
And to assist a young upstart?
What a joke.
"Director Clement, I'll do it," a woman with glasses, radiating a scholarly vibe akin to Sally Field, stood up. "I'm willing to lead Team A and work with Ms. Yeager."
Her name was Abbey, 26 years old, a humble soul. Though she hadn't studied abroad, her accolades were no less impressive than Susie's. "Dr. Abbey, are you sure?" Director Clement asked.
"Yes," Abbey nodded.
Pleased, Director Clement announced, "Then Dr. Abbey will lead Team A. Any objections?"
Silence.
"Good. Meeting adjourned," he concluded, "And Susie, do drop by my office later."
After the meeting, Susie headed to Director Clement's office.
Once alone, Director Clement said, "Susie, your dad and I go way back. He asked me to look out for you here. This opportunity is truly rare! I believe Ms. Yeager can cure cancer. How about this? You be the lead of Team A, and Dr. Abbey can assist. What do you think?"
Susie chuckled, "Uncle Clement, I
appreciate your concern, but I really don't want to get involved in this mess. I've heard the Yeager girl is only neen! Whether you believe in her or not, I certainly don't! And I advise you not to buy into such fairy tates. Even if the patients' families have signed waivers, a failed
treatment plan could still tarnish our hospital's reputation."
Cancer wasn't a common cold that could be easily cured.
If curing cancer was that simple, the world wouldn't lose so many lives to it annually.
Director Clement added, "Well, Susie, I've said my piece. If you regret this later, there's no going back. But as
your father's old friend, I've made my position clear. It's your choice."
BUMS
Susie's eyes twinkled with sarcasm. "Uncle Clement, rest assured, I'll never regret my decision. But once it's all set in stone, you won't be able to either."
Director Clement smiled, "Susie, I've been around longer than you've walked this Earth. I trust Ms. Yeager's abilities."
"Uncle Clement, haven't you heard the saying? 'A moment of folly can undo a lifetime of wisdom.""NôvelDrama.Org is the owner.
Calling Director Clement momentarily foolish was an understatement in Susie's eyes.
To her, he was completely senile to be deceived by a young girl!
And now, he wanted to drag her into the deception too!
As if she'd spent five years studying for nothing!
Director Clement simply smiled, offering no explanation.
"If there's nothing else, Uncle, I'll be going," Susie said, and with a nod from Director Clement, she left.
Meanwhile, Abbey was in her office, handing over her current cases to another doctor.
"Scarlett, could you please take care of these patients for me?"
Dr. Scarlett took the files. "Abbey, are you sure about leading Team A?"
"Yes," Abbey nodded firmly.
Dr. Scarlett continued, "Curing cancer seems like a tall tale. Even the experts from Country Pellonia are at a loss. What makes a neen-year-old girl so special?"
Abbey smiled, "Scarlett, if the
et
director believes in Ms. Yeager so much, she must have something extraordinary. My goal has always been to cure cancer, ever since my grandfather passed away from it."
