Chapter 30 Are We Husband And Wife?
Chapter 30 Are We Husband And Wife?
Sadie’s heart sank. She shook Liddy by her shoulders and asked, her eyes cold, “You… What do you
mean? Speak clearly.”
Liddy snorted lightly and shook her hands away in disgust, “I am tired. You want to know? Then go ask
the police. It will all come out into the open soon any way.”
Sadie retracted her hands and opened the door with cold feet.
She had also been sold. She forgot the way to go downstairs. She looked up and saw Julian standing
outside the inpatient department. She smiled at him like a psychopath and walked mechanically past
him.
The sky had darkened outside; it was even darker than her mood.
She went back to the orphanage in a daze. She searched in her bag for a long time but still couldn’t
find the key. At this moment, the last of her strength left her as she slid down on the ground and began
to cry bitterly, her face buried in her palms.
All the warmth was fake. The place that she called home was actually a fiery hell.
It was ridiculous that she tried her best to save that woman.
“The girl who was killed was horribly assaulted before she died. I hope you can cooperate with the
investigation and provide some clues.”
“You might need to go to the hospital for an examination in the future, we want to determine the
number of girls who were harmed.”
“Calm down, and try to compose yourself a bit…”
The policewoman’s words circled her mind again and again. Sadie raised her head from her hands,
trembling. She stood up by grabbing the railing, dug out the key from her bag and finally opened the
door.
She had been living at this house since she was adopted, Dean Esme also lived here. If what the
police told her was true, then she could not have been completely unaware of it.
“You have also been sold, but seeing you like this, you must not remember.” Liddy’s words resounded
in her head like thunder.
Sadie bit her lower lip as she rummaged through the boxes. She found the key to Dean Esme’s room
and opened the door tremblingly.
She and Liddy were never allowed to enter her room. Whether it was cleaning or tidying up, Esme
always did it herself.
After looking around, she found a password protected safe in the wardrobe. She blinked, and took it out
with some trouble. Then she tried to open it by pressing in a password.
Maybe she was too lucky, or Esme too careless, but the password she tried actually worked.
The safe opened to reveal a lot of jewels inside and a thick diary with a lock on it.
Her eyes fell on the jade lock which she used to wear but later lost. A bleak smile appeared on her face
as she took it and put it in her pant pocket after hesitating for a bit.
The locked diary didn’t have a key. She tried to find the key for a bit but she was unsuccessful. In the
end, she tore the diary apart violently and opened it to read it.
Suddenly, without any warning, a line of words jumped out for her attention. “Sadie, total price fifty
thousand yuan. A good price.”
Her mind exploded and cold shock spread throughout her body to her fingertips and toes, drenching
her soul in horror.
Liddy was not lying.
Suddenly calming down, she put the safe back in the wardrobe. Wiped her fingerprints off of it, closed
the wardrobe and walked out of the room with casual steps, unhurriedly.
Locking the door, she ran down the stairs with her bag on her back.
The street lights were already on and the orphanage quiet. It looked faint and gloomy.
In the warm breeze, Sadie’s eyes gradually became sweaty and hot, her vision blurred but she didn’t
wipe them clean.
She walked out of the main gate in a hurry and walked straight into a person.
Looking up blankly, she saw Julian looking down at her somewhat angrily. She suddenly laughed
strangely and said, “Is watching the drama unfold the whole day not enough? Do you still want more?”
“Come home with me.” Julian’s face was cold, he suddenly bent down and picked her up.
Home? She didn’t have a home… Sadie laughed and laughed, tears falling down her face
continuously.
“Don’t cry, be a good girl!” Julian took her to the car in his arms and immediately told Ted to drive.
Nestled in his arms like a puppet doll, Sadie’s eyes closed gradually.
Khalid couldn’t see the situation in the back, but he instinctively thought something was wrong and
couldn’t stop himself from saying, “Would you like to take her for a check-up?”
“No need. It’s all my fault. I didn’t protect her well enough. Whatever she went through, it’s all my fault.”
Julian’s voice was cold, “You will continue to follow the investigation of this case. If you find any clues,
show them to me first before handing them over to the police. Also, this must not be publicized, inform
the media to keep it quiet.”
Khalid tapped his nose and nodded in agreement.
This case was so huge that even if the media did not report it, it was still going to spread like fire
through social circles. Sadie was going to inevitably be surrounded with rumors and not know how to
handle it.
Returning to ZSB Garden, Sadie continued to sleep soundly as if trying to escape something.
Julian carried her upstairs and personally changed her clothes into pajamas. Then he went into the © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
bathroom to wet a towel and carefully cleaned her hands and face.
Poor girl was so frightened today, it seemed necessary to take her to meet Cohen earlier than planned.
The orphanage where she was adopted was privately run. Which means that the only source of income
was donations from companies and online fundraising. In addition, there were no profitable projects
that could have provided corresponding financial support to the orphanage.
In comparison, the condition of the orphanages that are run by the government was way better.
However, news also gets out faster in their case and the information is easier to find out.
The person who gave Esme money probably put her in a private orphanage because they were afraid
that she would be found.
It had to be said, that person was rightly worried. Julian never stopped looking for her in the past six
years.
Throwing the towel back towards the bathroom, Julian sat on the bed with his back leaning against the
headboard. He picked up his tablet and worked for some time. Then, remembering that she hadn’t
eaten the whole day, he got up and opened the door.
Sadie heard the sound of the door closing and numbly opened her eyes. She had woken up when she
was being carried upstairs and was just pretending to sleep.
Tears started to fall again even though she didn’t think about anything. The dam seemed to have
broken inside of her, all pain and tears came gushing out.
Haris Grant, she remembered, was the boss of a small company. He was fat and bulky and looked like
a wretched man.
Thinking that she might have been assaulted by such a person, she couldn’t help but retch and vomit.
After vomiting her guts out, her head started to hurt again and if it was being stabbed with hot knives
and messy memories began to appear in front of her.
The white yacht, the exquisite twelve layered fondant cake… scene after scene flew by.
“Are you up?” Julian had returned. Seeing her woken up and sitting there soulless, a dull pain
resonated in his chest. “Get up and eat something.”
Sadie looked up at him with empty eyes. Her gaze met his deep starry eyes blankly and she remained
silent for a long time.
Julian placed the tray on the bedside table and leaned over to hug her, “Are you okay?”
She didn’t look okay at all. Her eyes had a glazed look on them, dark and emotionless. She looked
lifeless.
“Are we husband and wife?” Sadie finally moved her lips, her voice hoarse, “Since a year ago? Or a
month ago?”
