Chapter 40: If you want to know so badly, then you should ask me
As soon as Allyce finished speaking, Neto hung up the phone. He didn’t even say goodbye.
Allyce frowned at the hung up phone.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
On the other side, Severo pushed open the door to his office and entered. He saw that Neto was throwing an object he was holding on the desk.
It was Severo’s phone.
Neto tapped the tip of his nose with his finger and said, “Well, your wife called, so I answered for you. I accidentally told her that the company was having a dinner tonight …”
Even though he was lying, his face did not blush and his heart did not beat faster.
Severo looked at him coldly and picked up his phone.
Neto immediately changed his tone and said: “As your boss, I have made a promise to the staff on your behalf and bragged about the dinner. You cannot break your promise.
Severo ignored him and looked at the outgoing call log on his phone. His eyes fell on the most recent call to Allyce from his phone.
She looked at him in silence for a few seconds and then looked at Neto: “Don’t ever do that again”.
…
After hanging up with Neto, Allyce went to her wardrobe, looking for something to wear.
What should I bring to the office dinner?
Allyce pulled out a few outfits and stood in front of the mirror to compare them. Then her eyes fell on the bandage on her head. She had almost forgotten that she had a cut on her head.
In the end, he opted for the simplest suit.
In her white shirt and cropped jeans, her light make-up and her long hair falling over her shoulders, she looked invincible in her beauty.
I had just got into a taxi when Severo called.
This time it was Severo.
“I’ll come and get you. Her cadenced voice flowed over the phone.
Allyce held the phone in one hand, opened the window with the other and said, “No need, I’m on my way”.
Severus said: “Oh, come and fetch Kimdis then”.
“Okay.” She already knew; Neto sent a message to her own number.
He hung up; it was not long before he got through to Kimdis.
Neto was quite generous, even organising dinners for the staff at Kimdis;
Allyce paid the fare and looked around; Severo was standing in the doorway waiting for her.
He too looked up just in time to catch her gaze; his eyes were full of smiles. However, he remained in place, apparently waiting for her to pass.
Allyce found herself blushing for no apparent reason. She placed the bag at her side and walked towards him.
“How long have you been waiting?”
Today she was wearing flat shoes, so she had to look up. Now, standing in front of him, she realised that he was much taller than she was.
Severo smiled and held out his arm, leading her inside, “Everyone has just arrived. Let’s go in.
Neto had booked a luxurious room for the dinner.
The noisy room suddenly fell silent as Allyce entered with Severo in the lead.
Everyone turned their heads to look at Allyce.
Allyce, suddenly the centre of attention, felt a little uncomfortable and unconsciously leaned a little closer to Severo, clinging to his arm.
Noticing her subtle movement, Severo pursed his lips and smiled. He ignored the staff who sat open-mouthed, stunned, and led her to his table.
Then, in a very gentlemanly manner, he pulled the chair close to him.
Blue Sky was not a very large company, with only about forty or fifty people at the various tables in the lobby.
The company’s managers, both men and women, sat at the same table as Severo and Allyce.
Allyce didn’t know anyone but Severo and Neto. When he sits down, he doesn’t talk much, just eats slowly.
Severo also ate in silence and said very little. Occasionally he would help her peel the prawns or peel the crab for her, or pass her a napkin. However, Neto kept talking to the people around him, with a smile on his face. He didn’t really have that cold, reserved look that a boss usually has.
After a while, one of the employees suddenly said: “Mrs. Betances is so beautiful and elegant. She must come from a rich family. Mr. Betances is really blessed”.
Severo put a peeled shrimp on Allyce’s plate when she finished speaking and said quietly, “Indeed.
No one knew whether to agree that he had been blessed or that Allyce came from a wealthy family.
Allyce raised her eyes and looked at the clerk. Before she could speak, however, another man interjected, “Mrs. Betances isn’t from the Delahoz family, is she?
At his comment, the room suddenly fell silent.
The Delahoz family was a powerful family in the city and had a good reputation.
With a powerful family, word of what was happening spread far and wide. Everyone in town knew about it.
She could not be the eldest daughter, she had long been engaged to the only son of the Aybar family.
If she comes from that family, then she must be the second daughter, the one with the bad reputation.
All of them, having come to this conclusion inwardly, remained silent.
Neto raised his eyebrows and seemed to be watching a very interesting drama.
“Is it that obvious?” Allyce put down her fork and looked at the person who had just said that. He seemed a bit arrogant.
The man was only going to guess, but Allyce was so direct in her admission that he was too embarrassed to speak further.
“You look very civilised, you don’t look like you were born into a normal family,” someone said enthusiastically, trying to save the situation.
Allyce smiled coldly.
“So you are the second daughter of the Delahoz group?” The employee who had started all this spoke up.
Allyce looked at her suspiciously: “I didn’t know Blue Sky employees were so observant.
Then he turned his head to Neto: “It looks like this man could be a better boss than you, Mr Pastrano.
He had seen Neto enjoying the show. He must have known who she was and guessed that someone would talk about her during dinner.
She was not mean, and considering how helpful and kind she had been to Severo, she should not have failed to step up to Neto.
But it didn’t feel right to be the monkey everyone laughed at.
“You have all this delicious food in front of you, but you still have time to joke around! Add ten plates to each table. If you don’t finish them, you won’t be able to leave”.
Neto finished, turned to Allyce, winked and then smiled at her with a hint of flattery.
Allyce gave him a fake smile and turned to Severo, saying, “I need to go to the bathroom”.
Neto watched Allyce get up and leave the table, rubbed his nose and turned his head towards Severo: “Wow, Allyce seems nice, but why is she so grumpy?
Severo looked at him coldly: “It’s your fault”.
Allyce was no stranger to Kimdis, so she found the bathroom easily.
He had not been in the cubicle long when he heard two women entering the bathroom and talking.
“She looked pretty, so I thought she was from some rich family, not realising that she was the second daughter of the Delahoz group”.
“Phew! A woman like her … I don’t understand what Severo Betances sees in her, her face…”
Allyce didn’t feel like listening to any more of this. She opened the door and walked out. If you want to know so badly, you should ask me.
