Chapter 37: See, you missed me.
Our boss?
Allyce took in what the receptionist said and understood the meaning of her words.
Your “boss” was sleeping in my bed last night!
Allyce looked closely at the young receptionist. She looked very young and her skin was glowing. She looked like she had just graduated.
Allyce gave a polite smile, perfect for the occasion, and said, “I’m so sorry, but I have to see him today. Could you help me, please? Just tell him that Allyce is looking for him”.
It turns out that only women who are beautiful but not overtly so can win people over.
Although the receptionist sensed some hostility towards Allyce, she had basic manners and, seeing Allyce’s politeness, she restrained herself and smiled.
“Let me ask that for you.” He said and picked up the phone.
Allyce stood silently, waiting.
The receptionist quickly hung up the phone. Mr. Betances is in a meeting.
Allyce’s eyes twinkled at his answer and she asked, “Is he always busy? Always in the office?”
The receptionist’s eyes lit up at the mention of Severo. Recently, a new project has just been launched and there have been meetings all day, and Mr. Betances is at …”.
Suddenly, he realised he had said too much and stopped.
Allyce didn’t really want to find Severo. He just wanted to make sure he stayed with the company.
“Thank you. If you’re busy, then I’ll be on my way.” Allyce said with a smile and prepared to leave.
At that moment, a young man in a navy blue suit came through the front door. He looked clean and animated, and seemed to know how to please people.
“Good morning, Mr. Pastrano!”
Allyce looked around as she heard the receptionist’s greeting and her eyes met his.
When his gaze fell on Allyce’s face, he paused for a moment before politely asking the receptionist: “And this is …?”.
“This is Allyce ….” The receptionist realised her tone in time and said politely, “I’m Miss Delahoz. She’s here to see Mr. Betances, but he’s in a meeting”.
“Are you looking for Severo?” he asked, his eyes sparkling with interest. He turned to look at Allyce with a smile and said: “Hi, I’m Neto Pastrano.
The man in front of him was certainly very professional and, judging by the way the receptionist had addressed him earlier, was almost certainly the head of the company.
“Hello, Mr. Pastrano. I’m Allyce,” Allyce said, looking at him admiringly. He looked decent and professional, with a genuine smile.
Neto nonchalantly slipped one hand into his trouser pocket and with the other made an elegant gesture for Allyce to follow him”. I’m going to Severo’s office too, I’ll show you the way”.
“No, he’s too busy …”
“Oh, for such a beautiful lady, no matter how busy he is, he will have time.
Neto said, smiling softly. He headed for the lift.
Allyce followed.
He thought that Neto Pastrano might not be the boss of the company because he was acting too friendly.
Standing in the lift with him, Allyce felt a little uncomfortable as her eyes remained fixed on the ever-changing red number. What could she say to a complete stranger in the same lift?
Besides, what was he going to say when he saw Severo?
At first, he just wanted to go to the office to make sure Severo was here.
Now that he had calmed down, he realised how impulsive his actions had been.
Allyce followed Neto out of the lift, taking a step behind him.
Along the way, people greeted Neto.
“Hello, Mr. Pastrano!”
Allyce found the atmosphere in the company to be very lively and friendly, unlike the Delahoz group; the whole place felt zombie-like, dead and lifeless when she worked there.
Suddenly, Neto turned to her, pointed to a door and said: “That’s Severo’s office. It’s empty right now because he’s in a meeting. Why don’t you sit there and wait”.
“Mr. Pastrano, you can’t let just anyone into your office …”
Neto smiled with a bit of mischief”. I remember he mentioned a lady called Delahoz when he was looking for someone to renovate the house, and I think it was you. You are not an ordinary person.
“…”
Allyce’s face turned red.
She was referring to the day after Severo moved in, when he took advantage of her absence to knock down almost all the interior walls of her flat and turn it into an open studio, forcing her to sleep in the same bed as him.
Neto spoke ambiguously.
Hearing him say this, Allyce also guessed that he and Severo had a good relationship.
At that moment, an employee passed by and saw a blushing Allyce with Neto and said: “Mr. Pastrano, you have a new girlfriend!
Neto didn’t get angry with him, he seemed to be very good at talking to people. He smiled and said, “Oh, I’m not so lucky to have such a beautiful girlfriend. This is the wife of Mr. Betances …”.
Hearing this, the employee looked at Allyce with his mouth open as if he was looking at an alien.
Then he greeted her solemnly: “Hello, Mrs. Betances!
The corners of Allyce’s mouth twitched as she observed his solemn demeanour. Did he look intimidating?
Then he turned to Neto: “Mr. Pastrano, I’ll say goodbye now”.
Then he walked away with quick steps, as if running away from a ghost.
“What’s wrong with him?” Allyce looked at Neto in confusion.
Neto smiled mysteriously and opened the door to Severo’s office for Allyce. Here, wait for Severo. I’ll have my secretary bring something to drink”.
Allyce looked at the words “Vice President” written on the side of the door and paused.
Neto left and Allyce shot out and came in.
The interior of the office was simple, with light, cool colours; nothing superfluous or extravagant.
Allyce looks around curiously, but doesn’t dare touch anything.
*knocks on the door*.
Suddenly, there is a knock at the door.
Allyce is forced to reply: “Go ahead”.
A woman, probably the secretary Neto had mentioned, came in carrying a tray. Mrs Betances, please have some coffee.
Allyce was about to thank him when she realised what she had just been called. What … did you call me?”
“You are really beautiful, Mrs. Betances”. The secretary smiled, she seemed to have a good personality. She thought Allyce was a little embarrassed as she added, “Mr. Betances will be back soon. Please wait a little while.
Then he turned and walked out.
“Ah …” Allyce shrieked in embarrassment.
Mrs. Betances…
The longer I stayed here, the more I felt I shouldn’t be here today.
Severo returned just before Allyce finished her coffee.
He was carrying a folder in his hand and his hair looked a bit messy. She looked like she had come back from somewhere in a hurry.
As he pushed open the door to his office, he saw Allyce sitting behind his desk. He looked at her dumbfounded and then smiled, his eyes saying, “See, you missed me.Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
