It is a sunny Monday morning. Amber went to her office earlier than usual. She has so many things to do today. She left her condo without having any breakfast. She does that when her mind is busy with work.

She was holding her coffee while getting out of the elevator. She saw Abby who was also having her coffee. She was surprised to see her lady boss came earlier. She has no big meetings for today except to review and sign some papers piling up on her table.

“Good morning, Abby.” Amber said cheerfully.

“Good morning, ma’am!” Abby equally greeted her with cheerfulness.

“Come to the office in 15 minutes.” Amber said before she got inside. She just wanted to enjoy her coffee. She does not feel hungry but she could order food later on, probably for brunch.

She immediately went to her swivel chair. She sees the piles of paperworks she has to do. However, it did not take that long when someone knocked at her door. She sighed to herself. She just told Abby to wait for 15 minutes.

“Come in.” She said after a few knocks. Whatever it is, it must be important.

“Ma’am, I am sorry but someone wants to see you.” Abby said carefully. She knows that Amber is very strict with her time.

Amber’s right eyebrow arched up. She wondered who would be coming to her office at this time. But before she could think further, her door opened wider. Devlin’s wide grin showed up. He brought with him something.

“Abby, you can leave. Thank you.” Amber said quickly. She doesn’t want her secretary to find out her connection with Devlin. Abby already showed her curious look at them. Of course, she would be curious. Devlin Wesley is famous all over the country. Even if he is not, his looks would surely get anyone’s attention. She had to shake her head thinking about his looks. She has to admit that after all these years, he has become more handsome than ever.

“Good morning, baby. I brought you some breakfast. I am not sure if you ate but hopefully not, so we can share some breakfast together. I have been trying to call your number but you were not picking up.” Amber forgot to turn on the ringer and notifications on her phone. She sometimes does that if she really wants to get a good sleep and not be bothered by some calls.

She was stressed out from her last encounter with Devlin. And now, he is back. He is setting the two bags of food on the small center table in her office.

“Why do you keep doing this? Which of what I said to you last time did you not understand?” She looked at him straight to his green eyes. She saw him tense but did his best to control himself.

“Your words will not stop me from pursuing you back. Do you know that there’s a very thin line between love and hate?” Devlin asked confidently. Amber laughed at him sarcastically.

“What are you talking about? Just stop what you are doing. I don’t get why you have to do all of these. I am happy with my life just as you are happy with yours. Let’s leave it at that.” She suggested. She is getting tired from all of these. It is like they are in a loop.

“No matter what you do, you are never going to convince me.” Amber said with finality. It is not as easy as Devlin thinks.

“How can you say that I am happy with my life? It has been my deepest regret that I have inflicted you so much pain in the past. However, I am here to make amends. I have never forgotten about you in all those five years.” Amber could see the sadness and pain in his eyes. She immediately turned to her side. She doesn’t want to know what he has been through. Everything happened because of him.

“Devlin, what good will it do to you to have me back in your life? Please, just accept that what we had was all in the past. I can’t continue all these talks with you. It just brings back so many bad memories. I planned to start my day great but…” Amber only shook her head out of frustration.

“Besides, don’t you have anything to do with your time? You are a very busy businessman. And if you realized it, I am also busy with my work here. Please, let’s not waste each other’s time.” Her determined voice did not even discourage Devlin.

He already expected her reaction towards him. She was hurt. And Devlin would accept whatever her treatments towards him. That is the price he had to pay.

“Would you at least just calm down? I won’t be staying here for long. I just want to see you. Please join me for breakfast.” He saw Amber deliberately ignoring him.

“You know what, I can stay here longer. I guess you do want my presence here.” He said after a few minutes of silence from Amber. She gave him a dagger look but didn’t say anything.

He wanted to taunt her further so he could convince her to eat with him.

“I got your favorite food here. And if you are not joining me here, I would love to stay here longer. I can cancel my meeting today.” He said while smiling sweetly at her. She took a deep breath. He would never take no for an answer. She needs to make sure that this is the last time that she would get closer to him nor engage in any conversation with him.

She stood up from her chair and went to sit on the couch next to Devlin. The foods are all her favorite but it still does not give her any appetite to eat. She forced herself instead to eat silently so she can be done with it. Devlin was serving her with the food. She remembered that he used to do that to her.

They ate in silence although Devlin would talk to her from time to time. She would just move her head or give him a brief reply to whatever he said.

“Thank you. I really appreciate this time we spent together. I hope that you will let me come visit you anytime.” He said and Amber just gaped at him. So, he already invited himself. There is no other way for her to avoid him as long as he is in the city.

After Devlin left, Amber cleared everything from the table. She really wanted to go somewhere far from Devlin. If she could just cancel all her appointments this week. However, that would be so unprofessional of her. Just because of her personal issues with Devlin, the performance of her company would suffer. She just needs to keep treating him coldly. She can ignore his presence. And if ever he comes back again, she can just act casually with him. And treat him like any regular client.

She focused her mind on her work and did not realize that it’s lunch time. She decided to take a break and eat lunch at the cafeteria. However, Abby came with a bag of food. Plus a bouquet of lavender flowers. She gave her a big smile. At the same time, there was curiosity in her eyes. Could it be from Mr. Devlin Wesley? Abby giggled lightly. She has been working with Amber for a while but she never heard her boss mention Mr. Wesley. So, she was surprised to see the famous bachelor in the country dropping by earlier. It was the second time for Abby to see Mr. Wesley upclose. The first time was during the event a few days ago.

She saw Amber was surprised but quickly thanked her for bringing the food and flowers.

“Thank you, Abby.” She quickly said.

She saw the card and it was from Devlin of course. She wanted to give away the food and throw the flowers away but on second thought she changed her mind. She called Abby to join her for lunch.

“Abby, mind sharing lunch with me? There’s plenty of food here.” She smiled at her secretary who was getting ready for her lunch break. She is glad that Abby does not need any convincing.

Abby got inside her office and immediately helped her set the food on the table. They are her favorites from that Italian restaurant. She wondered how he knew all the food she usually buys from that restaurant. Of course, he could easily ask the staff from the restaurant.

Abby was enjoying her food while looking at her boss who does not seem happy at all. She was in deep thought. She barely touched her food.

“Ma’am, aren’t you going to eat?” Abby asked while looking intently at Amber.

Amber took a heavy sigh before eating her food. She knew that Abby more or less already had an idea who sent those food and flowers for her. She does not really know how to stop Devlin except to avoid their encounter as much as possible. She wanted to call him to tell him to stop. However, the more she pushed him to stop, the more he wanted to get closer to her. She shook her head and ate in silence.
