Fated to the Ruthless CEO

His Revenge

“I am deeply sorry for the pain you’ve endured, Attorney Harrison. Regrettably, we cannot change what happened in the past. I hope you can eventually find it in your heart to forgive. I am genuinely willing to help you in any way I can. Please, spare Devlin and his family from whatever revenge you want to inflict against the Wesleys. Those responsible for your suffering have long since passed away,” Amber implored, hoping to persuade him that revenge wouldn’t lead to any true solace.

“Huh! You don’t know what you are talking about. Devlin’s father and brother were cut from the same cloth. His brother, a well-known attorney, had a history of engaging in questionable, under-the-table transactions. Similarly, his father was involved in illicit activities, such as smuggling high-value art pieces and selling them on the black market for exorbitant sums. And you know what I did to them?” He paused with a wild look on his face. Amber was scared but tried to appear calm from the outside.

“I resorted to a form of leverage: I blackmailed them. This action effectively restrained their involvement in any further unlawful endeavors, given the substantial amount of incriminating evidence I had amassed against them. I had them under control.” He laughed hysterically. The sounds he made echoed the whole room making Amber more scared.

“As for your husband, he might have been spared had he not inherited the majority of the Wesley’s fortune. Olivia ensured that Devlin received that inheritance,” Attorney Harrison declared, his expression hardening. “Besides, I could not manipulate her assets since she hired an accounting firm and assistant attorney to handle her wealth. I was merely an insignificant individual.”

Amber took the courage to speak out for her husband. “You know Devlin has no interest in his family’s wealth. That’s why he built his company from the ground up. His grandmother offered some initial funding but he refused it.” Amber remarked. She understood how much effort Devlin had put into achieving his current success.

“Well, I had hoped to access that money. I wanted to use it to support more orphans with the money I had worked tirelessly to accumulate. Without my involvement in their less scrupulous activities, the Wesleys wouldn’t be as wealthy and influential as they are now,” declared Attorney Harrison. Amber failed to make any sense of what he was saying.

“Why didn’t you just confront Devlin directly instead of resorting to all these methods? You are endangering other people’s lives,” she chided. She refrained from mentioning that he might spend the rest of his life in jail once he gets apprehended.Original from NôvelDrama.Org.

“Endangering other people’s lives? Those were the Wesleys, a dangerous game I was forced to play,” he responded with a touch of bitterness. “I was nothing more than a pawn in their scheme, trapped in a situation I couldn’t escape. And didn’t the Wesleys endanger the lives of more people compared to what I did?”

“But now, with them all gone, I want what’s rightfully mine,” he declared with a determined tone.

With a resolute tone in his voice, Amber couldn’t shake the nagging doubt that Attorney Harrison might have ulterior motives for the money. It was possible, she thought, that he intended to keep it all for himself. She knew she had to continue engaging him in conversation, not only to stall for more time but also because she had no idea how to escape a situation where a gun was pointed at her while he spoke.

“Attorney Harrison,” she began cautiously, “I truly appreciate your desire to help the orphans. It’s an incredibly noble cause, and I’m sure they would be immensely grateful for any support.” She paused, trying to gauge his reaction.

“But I’m curious,” she continued, her words carefully chosen, “how do you envision this help being provided?” Amber hoped that steering the conversation toward a concrete plan would buy her more time to think of an escape plan.

“Why do you even care, Mrs. Wesley? You’re one of them now, just like Olivia, You, too, were bought through the wealth that came with your marriage to Devlin. You became an enabler, allowing him to continue the dirty money from his ancestors.” Attorney Harrison said with his distant look.

Amber was in a state of panic. Attorney Harrison’s words left her utterly bewildered. She had just conveyed to him that Devlin had no interest in inheriting the wealth of his ancestors. Probably, Devlin was aware of the unscrupulous activities of both his great-grandfather and his grandfather. Amber couldn’t help but wonder if Attorney Harrison believed that simply by virtue of sharing their bloodline, Devlin was destined to follow in their footsteps. It was only now that Amber realized the depth of Devlin’s determination to establish his own business independently, free from reliance on his family’s wealth.

Amber’s understanding deepened. She realized that what Devlin did was not merely a matter of ambition. It was a rejection of the potential darkness that might lurk in his bloodline’s history. In that moment, she admired her husband’s determination all the more, seeing it not only as a pursuit of success but also as an effort to break from the burdens of the past.

She felt an overwhelming urge to correct Attorney Harrison’s misconceptions about her husband. However, it seemed that the old man’s sanity had long abandoned him. She couldn’t quite grasp how much time had passed since their conversation had started. Amber’s hope was dwindling, as she silently prayed that Devlin or someone would come to uncover the terrifying truth unfolding in that room – a lunatic old man standing before her in flesh.

“Now, you have to come with me.” Attorney Harrison’s demeanor even grew more unsettling, his wild eyes making Amber terrified.

She gathered her courage and pleaded with him through a trembling voice, fighting back tears that threatened to escape. “Please, I’m begging you, Attorney Harrison,” she implored. “I can talk to Devlin. He never wanted any of the wealth he inherited from his family.”

But Attorney Harrison remained undaunted, the depths of his determination unfathomable. “It’s not as simple as you think,” he replied coldly, his grip tightening on her arm as he forced her closer. With a chilling click, the gun pressed against her temple, its presence a stark reminder of the danger she now faced. “You’re coming with me, whether you like it or not,” he declared, his lips curling into a disturbing smile.

“Don’t even think about making a sound,” he cautioned, his voice tinged with madness. “I wouldn’t hesitate to pull this trigger.” Amber’s heart raced as she found herself trapped in a chilling ordeal, desperate for any glimmer of hope from the nightmare that had become her reality.

She prayed in silence, her desperate pleas echoing in her mind, hoping against hope that Devlin would come to her rescue soon. Attorney Harrison, once composed and authoritative, had completely gone insane, now holding her hostage with a grip that grew more ferocious with every passing moment.

As they got out of the mansion, a chilling scene unfolded before her eyes. The house was surrounded by a sea of uniformed figures, their stern expressions and poised weapons casting an ominous shadow over the tranquil sprawling mansion.

A shiver coursed through her as she sensed the lawyer’s escalating panic. The cold, unyielding barrel of the gun pressed harder against the back of her head, the pressure causing her to wince in pain. His voice, tinged with desperation and rage, cut through the tense silence.

“Go ahead,” he hissed with a venomous intensity, his eyes darting nervously between the armed figures outside. “Make a single move, and this woman’s head will be blown to pieces.” The threat hung heavily in the air, a stark reminder of the situation she found herself in.

Amber dared not make any sound. She slowly walked with Attorney Harrison. She was afraid that he may push the trigger any time. She prayed hard that someone would end this ordeal.

Meanwhile, Devlin sat anxiously inside his car, parked just outside his grand mansion. His sole concern was getting inside to help rescue his wife. However, the police stopped him from interfering.

Earlier in the day, he had chosen not to bring Amber to his office, wanting her to have a relaxing day. He had several of his bodyguards to watch over her. Now, he deeply regrets his decision.

During a meeting with Agent Smith, a call came in from Abby. She had managed to locate Attorney Harrison the previous day but lost track of him last night. Abby’s relief at discreetly planting a tracking device in his car quickly turned to unease. The GPS signal from the tracker indicated that Attorney Harrison was heading toward a disturbingly familiar destination – Devlin’s own mansion. This revelation sent chills down her spine, prompting her to act swiftly.

Without hesitation, she reached for her phone and dialed Agent Smith’s number. The urgency in her voice was unmistakable as she inquired about the whereabouts of Devlin and Amber, deeply concerned that their lives might be in imminent danger.

Upon learning of Attorney Harrison’s destination, Devlin attempted to rush out of his office to reach the mansion. It was Agent Smith who intervened, cautioning him, “Mr. Wesley, we must contact the police first. We’re uncertain of Attorney Harrison’s state of mind, and we must proceed with caution.”

And now, he is right in front of his mansion but Devlin couldn’t do anything for his wife. The waiting is killing him.
