Fated to the Ruthless CEO

Grateful For Her Presence

Devlin entered the kitchen to check on Amber and her grandmother. As he approached the door, he noticed that they were both crying and embracing each other tightly. Understanding the need for privacy, Devlin quietly stepped back and left them alone, giving them the space they needed.

After concluding his conversation with the hired bodyguard he got for marmee, Devlin felt relieved that things were going well. He is grateful that he could protect Amber and her grandmother from the troubles he is facing right now. Despite his efforts, he still hadn’t been able to uncover the mastermind behind the incident that caused his company’s almost downfall five years ago.

During his pursuit of justice, two employees from his company had bravely spoken up against the mastermind, but tragically, both ended up dead in jail after being poisoned.

The police released a list of suspects, and surprisingly, one of them was Devlin’s own brother due to their past disagreements. However, after conducting thorough investigations, his brother was cleared of any involvement just a week later into the investigation.

Another suspect emerged – a board member of Devlin’s company, who was struggling with financial problems stemming from a gambling addiction. Despite initial suspicions, the police eventually ruled him out as a suspect.

As the investigation continued, the authorities looked into three more individuals on the suspect list, but each of them was also cleared of any connection to the incident.

Recently, Fiona’s uncle, who happened to be a shareholder in Devlin’s company, became the latest suspect. The police launched a comprehensive investigation into his potential involvement, but similar to the others, he too received clearance once the authorities finished their examination.

Devlin found himself grappling with thoughts about who might be the mastermind behind the troubles in his company. At the moment, his primary suspects were Fiona Ross and her filthy rich father. However, he couldn’t gather enough evidence to directly link them to the incidents inside his company. Fiona’s father, despite coming from a wealthy family with a history of illegal activities, had a pristine reputation. All his business dealings were above board, and Devlin couldn’t find any faults with him. His squeaky-clean image raised even more suspicion from him.

Mr. Ross had been married twice, and while his first wife’s death was attributed to an accident, there were no reports of allegations or complaints against him concerning illegal activities. Even his second wife, Fiona’s mother, was a model citizen with no connections to any unlawful deeds. Despite the lack of evidence, Devlin couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss, and his intuition pointed to the Ross family.

Devlin was puzzled about what could possibly motivate Mr. Ross to stage the destruction of his company. They had never engaged in any direct business dealings. Furthermore, when Devlin was struggling financially, Mr. Ross had even offered to invest in his company to aid in its recovery, but he had turned down the offer.

Given these circumstances, Devlin couldn’t understand any apparent reason for Mr. Ross to harbor ill intentions toward him. The lack of any clear motive only deepened the mystery, leaving him even more uncertain about who might be responsible for the troubles that had befallen his company.

On the day Fiona visited Devlin’s company, she disclosed her father’s interest in investing in his struggling company. Initially, Devlin didn’t outright reject the offer during their conversation. Later, they left the building together, and as they stepped out, they were unexpectedly surrounded by reporters. In an unfortunate turn of events, Fiona insinuated to the reporters that they were planning to get married and have their companies merged.

Devlin felt deeply upset by Fiona’s actions, as she fed the reporters false information, which led to misleading headlines and speculations. He knew that such rumors could spread like wildfires. It would personally impact his relationship with Amber which he was trying to fix.

There was never any romantic involvement between him and Fiona. Despite that, Fiona continually spread rumors to the media, suggesting a romantic connection between them. She seemed to revel in the attention it brought, while he remained focused on resolving the pressing issues in his company. He had long ignored Fiona amid the mounting challenges he was facing.

Troubles continued to arise as two of the buildings constructed by his company faced violation issues with the local government. Fortunately, those problems were eventually resolved. However, the most persistent issue remained: one of his clients filed a lawsuit, accusing his company of using substandard materials in their project. Devlin knew that these accusations were baseless and that someone had tampered with the procurement files.

As if that weren’t enough, he started receiving threatening messages. While the threats didn’t shake his resolve to protect his company, he was deeply concerned about the safety of his loved ones. Among them, Amber, who was far away and unaware of the escalating situation, worried him the most. Devlin couldn’t bear the thought of anything happening to her, and this added emotional strain to an already challenging situation. He heaved a deep sigh.

Devlin felt an increasing urgency to inform Amber about the true nature of the threats and the challenges he is facing. He knew he needed to share the exact details with her, especially after learning from one of his hired bodyguards that Amber was also receiving threats. However, he had refrained from telling her anything just yet.

The first package intended for Amber was sent while she was on a business trip to Paris just a week ago. Unfortunately, she remained unaware of its contents as her secretary, Abby, had received the package on her behalf. Devlin was grateful that Amber had been spared from directly experiencing the fear and anxiety caused by the threats, but he knew that he couldn’t keep her in the dark for much longer. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.

Devlin wanted to find the right time and place to talk to Amber openly, honestly, and with reassurance. He hoped that by sharing everything, they could face the situation together, supporting each other through the tough times ahead. But for now, he remained focused on ensuring her safety and keeping her away from the immediate danger.

Determined to prioritize Amber’s safety above all else, Devlin made the decision to fly to New York a week ago and be with her once again. The uncertainty of not knowing who his real enemies were only heightened his concern for his wife. With the threats now targeting Amber directly, he understood that the situation had escalated to a critical point. Devlin was prepared to do whatever it takes to protect his wife. The thought of someone posing a threat to her well-being intensified his resolve. He knew that facing these unknown enemies head-on was very important. He hoped to gather more information and uncover the identities of those behind the threats. Every step he would take would be aimed at safeguarding Amber and ensuring her security.

He feels that it is just a matter of time and Amber would fully accept him back in her life. And when it does happen, he would make sure not to hurt the only woman he truly loves with all his being. Those five years were like hell for him.

Devlin was lost in his deep thoughts when he heard Amber’s soft voice calling out to him. Her concern was evident in the tone of her voice, and it immediately brought him back to the present.

Slightly startled, he turned to face her, a faint smile appearing on his face.

“Devlin, I have been calling you several times. Are you okay?” She said more gently this time which helped soothe Devlin’s worries.

“I’m sorry, there’s just a lot on my mind lately.” He said honestly without giving any hint what is troubling him. There’s a time for that. He smiled at his lovely wife. Five years have only made his little minx more beautiful.

“I was telling you that it’s time for lunch. I guessed you did not see Jackson who came to bring all the food that you ordered.” Amber was eyeing him closely. He tried not to look at her.

“Are you sure you are fine? You looked shaken.” Amber’s concern was evident, and Devlin couldn’t bear to hide his true emotions from her. He hugged her tightly and felt a sense of relief from her as she hugged him back. The moment she did that, he felt like all his worries were gone.

“Yes, everything is fine as long as you are here with me. Don’t worry about me.” Then, he put his arm on her shoulder. She did not even stop him from hugging her nor getting so close to her. Instead, she showed her curious face at him.

“We should eat. I am really starving.” He said just to keep her from scrutinizing him further.

“Fine. I hope it is nothing serious. You really looked so bothered by your own thoughts.” Amber voiced out. And she was right. He is extremely bothered and frustrated. He wished everything would be resolved soon. He wants to spend his time with his wife. And showed her that his feelings for her have never changed. In fact, it only intensified a hundredfold.
