Fated to the Ruthless CEO

Back Home

Devlin was sitting on Amber’s bed, hands on his face. He could not understand where she would go at this time. He has been waiting for more than an hour for her since he came back home. Worst of all, he could not contact her phone.

He grabbed one of her pillows and just smelled it. He is afraid to think about what she might have done. He specifically told her early in the morning that he wants them to talk tonight. He stood up and checked her closet for anything. He could not find anything in there. Then, he noticed the folded paper on top of the vanity table. He did not notice it earlier. He immediately opened it.

I have to leave before I lose my sanity. I can’t be with you anymore. Whatever you have to say, just save it please. It will not fix whatever pains your words have brought me. Even your actions proved that I was just a pastime. Someone that you could use and discard after readily. By the way, I gave everything that I got from Grandma Olivia. You can take care of that with Attorney Harrison. And finally, save yourself some energy. I am filing for a divorce. It is for the best.

He had to reread her letter to digest what she was saying there. He could not believe that she left him. He took his phone and tried calling her but he could still not contact her. He called her grandmother’s number but it only kept ringing until he could not contact it anymore. He threw his phone on the bed out of frustration.

She must be home right now at her marmee’s farm. He wanted to fly there to get her. But what good will it do? Isn’t it that she just ran away from him? Because she couldn’t bear to be with him anymore. She could not stand to hear his explanations. She did not even give him a chance.

This must be his punishment for hurting her several times. For insulting her. For accusing her. For so many things…

A few minutes into his own thoughts, his phone started ringing. He immediately grabbed his phone thinking that it could be Amber. He was disappointed to see that it was Attorney Harrison.

“Hello Attorney Harrison.” He greeted him with frustration and sadness in his voice.

“Hello, Mr. Wesley. I hope I have not interrupted you from whatever you are doing.” Attorney Harrison said politely.

“No problem, Attorney Harrison. So tell me.” Devlin already had an idea why the lawyer called. Attorney Harrison cleared his throat before he continued.

“Well, I called because of Ms. Amber Adams. She asked me to meet her earlier. At first, I did not know that she was leaving. We met at a coffee shop. She gave me an official letter denouncing her inheritance from your grandmother. And, she also asked me to help her with your divorce.” There was a long silence from Devlin’s end that the lawyer had to call his name many times.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.

“So, she really did what she had wanted in the first place. Now what? You know that I don’t really care about grandma’s wealth. However, it is something that I highly value since those were the results of my grandparents’ labor for years. You do what is best, Attorney Harrison.” He said with a serious tone.

“I understand, Mr. Wesley. Anyway, I have a question regarding your marriage. It does not appear in the registry office. Why is that? Was that a fake wedding, Mr. Wesley?” Attorney Harrison did not mince with words. He was straight to the point.

Devlin had to pinch the bridge of his nose. They are starting to hurt… going to his eyes and head. He must be having some migraines.

“There was a wedding. It was not fake. However, I had to ask the judge who officiated our wedding to delay the filing of our marriage certificate.” That’s another problem that he had to solve immediately.

“Why is that? I don’t understand.” Attorney Harrison wanted to know everything before he could proceed with the legal aspect. He needs to inform Ms. Adams as well since she entrusted everything to him.

“Ever since I brought Amber to that business dinner, the media’s eyes were on her. It was my fault in the first place. Then, I found out that she was being followed by some of them. And that day during the wedding, we were even followed by those reporters hungry for some gossip news. I decided to delay the filing of the marriage certificate to protect her. And when I called the judge later on, he was on a business trip. I did not want his assistant to do the filing. I still want everything to be discreet simply because I wanted to protect my wife.” He finished his long explanation.

“Alright, now I understand what exactly happened. So, what are you going to do now, Devlin?” Attorney Harrison used his name. That means he is talking to him not as a lawyer now but as a family friend.

“Our marriage is not fake. And I don’t want a divorce from my wife. I don’t know how much she told you but I am not going to give her up.” He said, trying to assure himself.

“I hope you can resolve your personal issues together. Looks like you have a huge change of heart after the wedding.” Attorney Harrison commented which made Devlin smile bitterly.

He was right. Amber changed him. And whatever it takes, he is going to get back his wife.

Meanwhile, Amber is back home in her marmee’s farm. The moment she arrived, she could not stop herself from hugging her marmee so tight. She was in the backyard talking to some of their workers.

“Amber! You are here. You almost gave me a heart attack.” She said while holding her chest. Mrs. Mills came just in time to give her a glass of water.

“I am so sorry marmee. I should never have done that. I just miss you so much. Are you fine now, marmee?” She said with a worried voice. She castigated herself for not thinking of what she just did. She could have made her grandmother more sick.

“Don’t worry about me, my child. I am still stronger than you thought.” They both smiled together with teary eyes. They both hugged each other tightly.

“So, why didn’t you call me when you were coming home? Are you alone? Where is Devlin? I thought he was coming with you.” Her marmee bombarded her with so many questions.

While she was on the plane, she was thinking how she was going to explain to her grandmother what happened. She has been lying to her ever since she arrived in Seattle. What will her grandmother feel from all her lies? And she doesn’t want her to get more sick if she learns the whole truth. She resolved to only inform her some parts of what happened.

“Uhmmm…marmee, could we please have something to eat before I tell you everything?” She is actually starving. She arrived in Seattle after lunch. She only had that coffee and sandwich during breakfast. And that was around 8 am.

“Let’s go to the kitchen. We still have plenty of food.” She immediately called Mrs. Mills to heat up all the left-over food.

“Do you want to eat something else? I can cook your favorite food.” Amber only shook her head.

“These are all good, marmee. I am already hungry.” She actually ate a lot. Aside from starving, she also missed the food on the farm. A slight burp escaped her throat after she finished eating. Her grandmother only smiled at her.

“Amber, looks like your fiance’ did not take good care of you.” Marmee meant it as a joke but she saw Amber’s eyes started to well up.

“What’s wrong, my child? I am so sorry. I only meant it as a joke. I hope you could tell me what exactly happened. I will always understand, no matter what.” Upon hearing what her marmee said, she burst into tears. She was just sobbing hysterically. It took her a little while before she calmed down.

“Are you feeling much better?” Amber slightly nodded. She needed to tell her grandmother. She will always understand no matter what.

“Now, tell me what exactly happened?” Her marmee’s serious voice made her confess almost everything.
