Falling For The Contract Bride Chapter 8
Chapter 8 Can I See Your Wife?
Xiao Qingqing looked at Lu Jinye from behind and said nothing. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
Lu Jinye said, “Come in.”
Mu Zhi first took a glance inside before entering. Then she said, “Mr. Lu, I’d like to ask for leave to visit a friend’s mother at the hospital.”
Lu Jinye raised his eyebrows, looked at Mu Zhi, and instantly nodded his head, “Would you like the driver to send you?”
Mu Zhi could feel Xiao Qingqing’s eyes fixed on her as soon as she entered the room.
“No, no, no, I can just take a cab there myself. The hospital is just nearby too.”
Xiao Qingqing’s gaze made Mu Zhi extremely uncomfortable. Mu Zhi quickly refused Lu Jinye and left.
She actually wanted to leave as soon as she could, but before Mu Zhi could close the office door, she heard Xiao Qingqing whisper into Lu Jinye’s ear, “Jinye, can I meet your wife? I want to thank her for helping you put up an act for so long.”
Her words shocked Mu Zhi. She almost scampered out of the office and ran away, leaving the door to shut loudly by itself, startling the people inside.
Mu Zhi secretly despised herself in her heart when she got into the cab.
Was it necessary? Why are you so scared? It’s just his ex-girlfriend making her return!
Sigh… But she knew that Xiao Qingqing was different from other women. She just didn’t know what Lu Jinye thought of her.
She originally wanted to stay by Lu Jinye’s side and be his secretary and his obsequious wife for just five months. Following which, she would leave without a fuss.
But seemed like it wouldn’t work that way now, so she had to plan ahead.
When Mu Zhi arrived at the hospital, he went straight to Jian Xiaoning and followed her to the dean to talk about her mother’s treatment plan.
The hospital could waive a part of the total cost because this matter involved the use of a new equipment and was also part of a medical research. However, the remaining payable costs still left Mu Zhi speechless.
Although she was married to Lu Jinye, it wasn’t enough. Her mother’s hospitalization and basic physical care had famished all the gifts from Lu Jinye that she cashed out.
She could rely on Li Jinye for her mother needed treatment for the moment, but in the near future… She might no longer afford it.
She was divorcing Lu Jinye after all.
“Um, dean, how long will this treatment cycle be?”
“It will take a year and a half to treat in an optimistic scenario.”
The dean checked the treatment plan and continued, “Because 98% or your mother’s brain cells are dead. If we were to cultivate the brain cell then culture them again, I’m sure you know the time needed for the cells to replace themselves.”
“How about the cost?”
Mu Zhi bit her lip and tried to negotiate with the dean again, “Is the fee negotiable? 80 million is relatively…”
“Umm…”
The dean was also embarrassed, “Regarding the fee, Xiaoning and I had already tried to appeal for you. But there are some other paralyzed patients with an active brain and heart who wants to try out this experiment too.”
This made Mu Zhi even more indecisive.
“I can foot this bill for you.” Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
Just as Mu Zhi hesitated for a reply, the dean’s office door opened suddenly. Lu Junnian walked in and said, “Dean, I can pay for the fees… As for whether in full or just partial, I’ll need to have a discussion with the patient’s family about this first.”
Lu Junnian deliberately avoided Mu Zhi’s eyes, but his intention was obvious.
The dean understood naturally, and took Jian Xiaoning out of the room. Mu Zhi raised her head to look at Lu Junnian and immediately refused his offer.
“Thank you for your kindness, but we have nothing to talk about. I will figure out the how to deal with the fees myself.”
“How are you going to find a solution? Do you have so much money?”
Lu Junnian stepped forward and grabbed Mu Zhi’s hand.
Mu Zhi shoved his hand away, “I won’t take a single penny of yours.”
If Lu Junnian’s mother, Xu Changshu hadn’t by all means driven her out of the medical field, she would have been able to save her mother from this disease.
“Why?”
Asked Lu Junnian.
But before Mu Zhi could answer, they heard a voice as the door opened and a woman walked in.
“Junnian, I was just having a few words with the assistant dean. Why did you disappear? I’ve been looking all around for you.”
