Third person POV
Eyes fixed on Nathan, Demelza quickly pulled away from Allison. For some reason, Nathan’s stare made her fidget but she tried to compose herself as she didn’t want it to be evident. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“Allison _” Nathan paused a bit trying to put his words together as seeing them in an embrace was a shocker to him. He looked at both of them wondering what exactly Demelza might have told Allison and he also dreaded the fact that she might have told her about the sex.
“What exactly is this?” He asked with his eyes fixed on Demelza.
“Er_” Demelza stuttered unable to say a word
Allison just stood in the same spot observing Demelza and Nathan and she could tell the tension between both of them and it seemed deeper than him refusing to help Demelza. Not interested in whatever, she turned to Nathan to talk to him.
“Why did you refuse to help this young lady?” Allison asked Nathan whose eyes were already blood red from being so upset.
“She must have told you right? After all, I saw you both bonding”. He blurted out with disgust all over his face.
“Doesn’t matter what she said to me, what matters is what you say. I wanna hear your own side of the story alright” Allison said with worry laced on her voice.
Nathan ignored her question and walked to Demelza looking into her eyes like a demon about to feed on her soul.
He placed his hand on her shoulder and held it firmly with his eyes still locked in hers but not in a good way. “You disgust me actually and why are you so desperate? I warned you, the nerve of you to come to my office without an appointment and worse you are in my study saying things to my sister. You must be_”
“You say no more boy,” Allison scolded Nathan, stopping him from completing his statement. “That is okay to talk to a woman” Allison warned Nathan.
“This” Nathan scoffed and rolled his eyes.
“She did not say anything out of the ordinary to me, all she said was how desperately she needed you to help her out in freeing her father from the claws of your friend. Which you declined in the name of loyalty while letting the weak and innocent suffer” Allison expressed.
“Don’t you ever come to my office without an appointment. You are really lucky Allison is here.” He told Demelza with a look of disdain.
“I think I better leave,” Demelza said in defeat feeling very upset and sad that she couldn’t achieve her main reason for coming to Nathan’s office.
“Yeah, you better,” Nathan spat.
Allison turned to Nathan after he said that wondering what the hate is about. “No, you won’t. Hold on.” Allison told Demelza holding her back by pulling her hands.
“Please Nathan, this isn’t you. Please help her.” Allison pleaded on Demelza’s behalf.
“It doesn’t matter who is begging Allison, my no is still no. I won’t help her and that is final” Nathan told his sister sternly to make her understand he wouldn’t change his decision even if she begged.
“Thank you” Demelza told Allison, took her hand back from Allison and then turned to leave.
“Wait” Allison told her and ran towards her.
“Here’s my card, give me a call. I’ll be waiting” Allison told Demelza, handing her card to her. She really hopes Demelza will call with the belief that she will be able to convince Nathan that she will help.
Allison handed over the card and walked back into the study to talk to Nathan but as she stepped into the study, Nathan stepped out and hurriedly made his way out of his office. He rushed and caught up to Demelza and pulled her into a corner before anyone could notice.
He choked her slightly by the neck enough to inflict a little bit of pain and cause the amount of fear he wanted her to have. Demelza looked at him with her eyes bloodshot in fear of what was happening at the moment. “This should be the last time you come to my office without an appointment. I meant it when I said it earlier. Whatever you told my sister, she can’t help you; just forget it already. And just In Case you are still thinking of talking about _ ” he paused for a second, enough to make her understand what he is talking about. “You so much as breathe a word about that, you are so dead!” Nathan threatened Demelza with so much seriousness letting her go afterwards.
Demelza started coughing from feeling a bit shocked and also from so much fear. She had never seen that side of Nathan and seeing that part of him made her wonder why she ever thought there was a difference between him and Hampton. Now she understood how they are best friends but hated herself more for having a liking towards Nathan.
She rubbed her neck a bit to relieve herself from the pressure she felt. She falls to the floor as she could feel her body shaking from being utterly bewildered.
Nathan looked at her on the floor and his eyes twitched as he felt he must have gone extreme but he brushes that off reminding himself that he is Nathan Storm and she needed to be put in her place. He rolled his eyes and walked away from her back to his office without looking back.
Demelza watched him leave as she hoped deep down that he would feel bad for what he did and turn to say sorry but to her disappointment, he did not turn back at all. With each step he took, she listened to his footsteps until they trailed off completely.
She remained on the floor for a few minutes crying her eyes out in frustration and thinking. It hurt her the most that accepting to be Hampton’s mistress is her last option. Just then, she remembered she was supposed to visit her stepmom in the hospital. She hurriedly checked the time and she could see that time is far spent. She got up form the floor, cleaned herself up and wore a fake smile walking out of the office.
She hurriedly called a cab right outside the building. “St John’s hospital please” she told the cab man.
The drive to the hospital was a thoughtful one for her as she kept pondering on how she would walk up to Hampton to tell him she accepted his proposal.
“Ma’am, we are here now” the driver told Demelza who was lost in thoughts.
“Oh, sorry” she responded and paid him for the drive in cash.
She alighted and walked into the hospital to see her stepmom.
Walking into the hospital, she notices some disorganization and doctors and nurses walking back and forth with worry sitting on their faces.
She asked around and she was told a patient is having a cardiac arrest. She traced the room and as she walked further, only for her to realize she was going in the same direction to her stepmom’s room.
Demelza’s heart fell as she got there and all she could see was her stepmom dying. She tried to go in but the nurses wouldn’t let her. She watched how they tried to stabilize her stepmom. Seeing her health deteriorating like that broke her heart and without thinking twice she stormed out of the hospital making her way to Hampton’s office to accept his proposal. She pushed aside the thought that she already promised her father not to do anything stupid but she could no longer bear the hardship.
Being Hampton’s mistress felt like a death sentence but losing her father and step mother felt worse. With her eyes filled with tears, she crossed the road without looking properly. In what felt like a nanosecond, everything became pitch black.
