Chapter 33
Valerie’s Pov
I needed to do something, I couldn’t just let him execute Janet, such a young girl, I picked her up from the floor and looked deeply into her eyes and I saw how dead she was already, She already readied her mind for death, My heart ached at the thought of what she must have gone through.
Carson walked towards me and held my hand tightly
“Please just give me a day, I know she’s innocent,” I said while looking into his eyes, He felt his grip loosen and he nodded.
“Everyone is dismissed, gather here by this time tomorrow, except Janet, you will be isolated till tomorrow” Carson ordered, and slowly everyone exited the hall.
“Thank you for listening to me,” I said
“How do you want to investigate when you haven’t even recovered?” Carson asked with worry in his eyes.
“Easy, as much as I hate to say it, you will be my assistant in this,” I said with a cheeky smile
“Although you are supposed to be resting, Working together doesn’t seem like a terrible plan, I’ll be delighted,” Carson said, he smiled so widely that I almost saw all of his teeth, If not that I didn’t want an innocent person being harmed I would’ve never agreed to work with him.
“So first thing is that I need to sit and at least can I get a good meal? I’ve been throwing up and I haven’t gotten any good food,” I said while looking at Carson’s smile that refused to go down, I had been subjected to soup and mashed potatoes, none of which tasted like the way I wanted.
“What would you like to eat Val?” Carson said
“Scrambled eggs and a big croissant,” I said while Carson offered me a seat.
“Your wish is my command, Benson you heard my woman,” Carson said after a few minutes it was brought to me. When I saw it I was as happy as a child.
I immediately started devouring the food, I didn’t care about how I looked starved, after stuffing my mouth which I nearly choked on
“Easy now,” Carson said and while I looked at him he still had this smile on his face. Now that I was looking at him he wasn’t a monster. He is very handsome, I looked away quickly and I reminded myself how he separated me from my parents.
I felt like throwing up and Carson was one step ahead because he also requested a barf bucket, I vomited, and I rested my back on the chair.
“That was delicious, thank you,” I said
“Anything for you my little rabbit,” Carson said
“Okay now the matter at hand, I’m not a detective but I’m sure Janet is innocent,” I said, and I was certain, I had no doubts whatsoever that she was truly innocent, and she was being framed.
“Okay how shall we prove it,” Carson said, I am sure he just liked being close to me and he wasn’t interested in helping Janet.
“First of all, The person must have waited when he or she wasn’t on kitchen duty to plan it,” I said and Carson nodded
“It could be true,” He said
“When you saw the bottle, What was the quantity?” I asked Carson
“Well it was almost finished,” Carson answered, trying to provide every bit of information he could.
“That means this wasn’t the first attempt and that is the only bottle,” I said
“That could also be true,” Carson said
“When last did I eat apart from the soup that was poisoned” I asked
“Should be before the night you attempted to run away ” Carson answered
“Well I ate throughout the day and nothing happened to me, which means it was the day we had shrimps in my room, I was the target, it had nothing to do with you” I analyzed
“Yes, luckily you are allergic to shrimps and you didn’t say any of it” I am so glad I didn’t eat that.
“I need to ask the people in kitchen duty that day some questions, even though I know they are innocent,” I asked, I was determined to prove Janet innocent and also get closure for myself and find out why someone would want to harm me.
“Very well then, Benson” Carson called out to Benson and he left immediately. Sometimes I think they read each other’s mind because he always knows what to do without being told to do so.
We waited for a while and I got so anxious I stood and started pacing around the room, I only had one day to serve justice
“You should rest Val,” Carson said
“No not until I make you realize that you’re wrong, and please don’t kill anyone for my sake, I never asked for any of this,” I said as I replayed how Janet was almost shot in the back of the head if I had arrived a few minutes later than I did, Shivers instantly ran through my body and the thought of being responsible for someone’s death and being the cause why such a promising girl should lose he life.
“Noted” Carson sat down with his legs crossed. How could he be so calm? He nearly killed a human being, He nearly killed Janet a few minutes ago.
I almost lost my balance and Carson appeared immediately and caught me before I fell. He assisted me to my seat, while we waited for Benson.
Benson arrived shortly after, And the questioning started almost immediately. There wasn’t enough time to question them one after the other, so I figured I could do it once and for all.
“We gathered you all in here because we believe one of you must have seen something or is an accomplice.”
“We will tell you all you need to know” One of them spoke up
“You all worked in the kitchen that day. Carson and I had breakfast together, True?”This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
“Yes madame” They replied collectively
“I believe my food was also poisoned that day” They all gasped and started pleading profusely.
“Ma we promise, we know nothing about that,” They said
“Explain to me what happened that day,” I asked
“It was a normal day, we woke up early because that day was the first breakfast the both of you shared, It was just us on duty that day ma” One of them spoke up
“Is that all?” I asked, there has to be more, I can’t save Janet with this information they are giving me. I saw they thought hard and when I had given up on getting any more information from them, one of the ladies at the back spoke up
“Well Ma, it was just us but someone else joined when we were about to finish up but she left when we were done dishing out the food, Sir asked for different meals for the both of you Ma” As soon as I heard this new piece of information I nearly jumped for joy that I was too weak to do so, I maintained my composure and asked.
“Well what’s the person’s name,” I asked
“Her name is Yemora, Ma”.
