Fake marriage From Betrayal to Billionaire’s Embrace

Chapter 55

Chapter 55

Luciano’s POV

Clara told me that Vanessa left her home the next morning. I wanted to talk to her one last time but Clara didn’t even give hint where she is.

I have seen Clara from far and from what I have understood her is that she is a very strong lady. But when I went to meet her she was looking scared. Her demeanor seemed as though she was under immense pressure, almost as if someone was coercing her. Adding to the intrigue, Clara was garbed in attire that concealed her from head to toe, hinting at an underlying

unease.

Clara told me that Vanessa doesn’t want to talk to me and she wants some space that’s why I didn’t call her the whole day but as the evening approached it became really difficult for me to stop myself so I called her.

Vanessa has asked me to stay away from her but I am unable to keep her out of my mind. I don’t know why I felt a bit weird by the way she was talking.

My heart is still saying that something is wrong.

I asked my men to track her phone and they found it at a residential building. She must be staying there.

All day I tried to focus on my work but her words were still ringing in my head. The urge to reach out to her grew stronger with each passing moment. Just as I was about to shut down my files and head to the location we tracked her phone, my phone abruptly rang. It was my father, who had been

persistently calling since morning, a series of missed calls I had _deliberately ignored, not in the mood for another round of family drama.

With a heavy sigh I decided to pick it up.

“Where are you Luciano?” He asked as soon as I picked up the call.

“In hell,” I muttered bitterly.

“Nice. Well, if you find some time between your self-inflicted torment, perhaps you could grace your grandmother with a visit, or are you saving that for a celestial reunion?” His words dripped with sarcasm, yet beneath it lay a simmering anger.

“What do you mean?” I asked as I couldn’t get it properly

“Your grandmother’s situation is critical. She is admitted in the hospital. I would have never called you if she wasn’t asking for you. So, if you have even an ounce of compassion left in you for that old lady, go and see her now!”

And he hang up.

Grandma is in hospital?

Setting aside all my pending work, I hastily grabbed my car keys and dashed out the door. With adrenaline coursing through my veins, I drove to the hospital at breakneck speed, my only focus on reaching my grandmother’s side. Upon arrival, I made a beeline for her room, where a doctor was currently attending to her.

“How is she?” I inquired anxiously, my heart pounding in my chest.

“Thankfully, she’s showing signs of recovery, but she needs plenty of rest. Please, try not to stress her,” the doctor advised with a gentle tone,

Nodding in understanding, I approached my grandmother’s bedside and called out to her softly. Her frail face shifted towards me, a faint smile gracing her lips despite the struggle she faced for every breath.

“Lucy,” she murmured, her trembling hands reaching out in my direction.

Rushing to her side, I took her hand in mine, allowing her fingers to brush against my cheek. Tenderly, she kissed her fingertips before I brought her hand to my lips, pressing a gentle kiss to the back of her palm.

“How are you feeling now?” I asked, my voice filled with concern.

“Now that you’re here, I’m completely fine. I just wanted to see you one last time before my eyes closed for…” her words trailed off, but before she could finish, my fingers instinctively reached out to gently press against her lips.

“Don’t say such things, Grandma,” I interjected softly, my heart aching at the thought of losing her. “You know you’re the only one who loves me.”

A soft smile graced her lips as her trembling hand reached up to touch mine, guiding it away from her mouth.

“You have Vanessa now. That’s why I can finally die peacefully,” she murmured, her eyes reflecting a sense of contentment amidst the pain.

I looked away at the mention of Vanessa.

“Where is she?” Grandma asked me.

I blinked up at her. I can’t tell her why she is not here. She will get tensed.

“Umm, actually she has went to her uncle and aunt. An emergency came up so…. I just came here the moment I got to know about you. I forgot to tell her” I lied, the words leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.

“It’s fine. I am alright now. Don’t tell her about me or she will be stressed unnecessarily. I will meet her soon”

I nodded.

“But promise me one thing Lucy”

She grabbed my palms in between hers. Her eyes

“You will never leave her”

I gulped, unable to make any word.

filled with hope.

“As much as I am able to understand her, she is a very innocent soul. She has already gone through a lot. I wish that she get the love she deserve. And the only person who could give it to her is you. You are her husband. I know you have immense love in your heart all you need to do is open it up in front of her Believe me she could give you more love then you could even think of. You would turn out to be the best couple. All I want is your happiness. Please promise me that you will never ever leave her”

“I promise, grandma” I murmured

And I promise to bring her back and never let her go. I will keep her like my Queen, just the way she deserve.

“Sir, we need to give her injection” a nurse approached us.

I nodded and stood up before planting another kiss on the back of her palm. Grandma kept on looking at me without blinking until she drifted into sleep, under the effect of the drug.

Sighing, I made my way out of her room. I wanted to discuss with the doctor about her current state and how long will it take for her to recover. To do the same I went to the doctor and had a little conversation with him.

When I came out and went towards grandma’s room, I heard a familiar voice, causing me to freeze in place. My heart skipped a beat as I caught sight of Nathaniel, engaged in conversation with a doctor in a small cabin. The door to the cabin were open and am sure they were unaware of the fact that they were being heard.

What is he doing here?

Without a second thought, I instinctively took a few steps back, hiding behind a nearby wall, ensuring that I remained out of Nathaniel’s line of sight. It was not like that I am afraid of him or something like that I just wanted to know why he was here. He doesn’t care about anyone to visit the hospital and he is looking fit and fine by himself so there must be some reason for him to be here.

“For now she is out of danger Mr. Devlin but I am not sure if this happened again”

She?

He has came here for a girl?

“You know that she is pregnant and you must take care of her”

Pregnant?

He got another girl and still he was trying on Vanessa. This man could never be loyal to one girl.

I became even more interested in the conversation. Moving a little forward I heard their conversation more intently.

“It was fortunate that she vomited what she ate; otherwise, it could have been fatal for the baby and posed a significant risk to her health as well. We need to monitor her diet closely. I suspect someone is attempting to harm your baby,” the doctor’s words resonated with a sense of urgency, sending a chill down my spine but Nathaniel had no effect.

How could he be so calm when his baby was harmed?

And Who could possibly harm Nathaniel’s baby in his presence? And if someone is really doing this than what is the advantage of being in Mafia when he can’t even protect his baby and girlfriend or fiance.

“That filth in her belly is not my baby!” Nathaniel gritted his teeth in anger. His words left both me and the doctor equally shocked.

A long silence followed his words. It took the doctor of you minutes to discern his words.

“I… I am sorry, Mr. Devlin. The way you brought her in, cradled in your arms… I assumed…” the doctor’s voice faltered, his words trailing off as he struggled to find an explanation for his earlier assumption.

“The way things appears are not always true” Nathaniel said in his cold tone “Now listen to me very carefully”

Leaning forward, Nathaniel’s intensity seemed to amplify, drawing the doctor’s undivided focus. But the next words that he said, shook me to the core.

“I want you to abort the baby in Vanessa’s belly”
