Chapter 105
Chapter 105
Initially, Alice had intended to just drop by and clarify things before leaving. However, James didn’t give her a chance to say much, and he didn’t even bring up the topic of marriage ever since she entered the house. She didn’t even have a chance to reject anything. Furthermore, it made it harder for anyone to continue the conversation when James was humiliating his grandson. Wisdom does come with age, after all. Old Mr. Rowland is famous for a reason. He’s impressive! Alice thought. But no matter how much Old Mr. Rowland tries to avoid the topic, he’ll have to bring it up eventually. So, there’s no rush, I guess.
At that moment, Suzette jogged into the living room with a look of excitement on her face. “Someone sent flowers to Miss Alice. There are tons of flowers! There’s an entire truck filled with roses! It’s so gorgeous and stunning,” she cried. Suzette froze for a moment when she saw Alice in the house. “You should go take a look, Miss Alice,” she urged. Suzette was Hazel and Donovan Haddon’s daughter. Hazel and Donovan had been working for the Wolands for years, and their daughter, who was in a university in Rodcaster, would show up at Woland Residence every now and then.
Suzette dropped by that day just in time to see the whole truck of roses outside. She froze in surprise when she first saw it. Emma already felt miserable, to begin with, and after what Suzette said, she felt immense jealousy. I can’t believe someone actually bought flowers for that ugly girl. That person is either blind or too deeply in love, Emma thought.
Alice was stunned to hear about the flowers. A whole truck of flowers, huh? Roses? Who would give me such a thing? Who would give me a truck full of roses? Meanwhile, James, who had been sitting on the couch, raised an eyebrow upon hearing this. There was a hint of satisfaction on his face. I guess Keith is pretty good with girls. At least he knows how to buy flowers, James thought.
“Who are the flowers from?” Charles was surprised to hear this as well. It was normal for one to buy another person some flowers, but to send over an entire truck of flowers was practically unheard of. “I
don’t know. I was just looking at the flowers—I forgot to look at the person,” Suzette muttered in a rather embarrassed tone. “But I double-checked—it’s definitely for Miss Alice.”
A few men began to move the flowers into the house as Suzette spoke. They each came in with a bunch of flowers, and after a few rounds, they eventually filled the place up. Woland Residence itself had an astoundingly huge living room, yet the number of roses that were sent over was enough to fill the space. One might’ve thought that Suzette was exaggerating when she talked about the truck of flowers, but everyone was almost blinded by all the red in the room after the roses had been brought into the house. Red roses were a symbol of passionate and true love. True love?! Emma felt like her eyeballs were about to pop out of their sockets as she glared at the flowers. There were quite a number of men moving the roses, so they were quick to arrange everything in the living hall. Then, one of the men walked over in a gentlemanly and elegant manner. His charming aura and his flawless face made him look almost other-worldly. Everyone froze as they watched the man walk toward them!
Emma wasn’t the only one who was stunned—practically every woman in the house was mesmerized by the man’s looks. Everyone except Alice, of course. She frowned. This man is so annoying. The man had already walked up to Alice at that point, and he had a bouquet of purple roses in his hands. Purple roses were a representation of romance and sincerity, and their color made them seem especially unique. The man beamed as he handed the bouquet to Alice. “This is all for you. Do you like it?” he asked.
Alice quietly let out a sigh. Am I allowed to say no? More importantly—do I have the guts to accept this? Even though my marriage with Ethan is fake, Ethan will lose his cool if he hears that I accepted Keith’s truck of roses. Ethan just held me by the neck and threatened me yesterday, she thought.
However, Alice didn’t want to embarrass Keith in front of all these people, either. “I’m sorry. I’m allergic to flowers.” Alice took a few steps back, and she happened to sneeze just in time to support her point.
Lindsay’s expression darkened for a moment, but she didn’t say much after that. Emma clenched her fists as she thought about how unappreciative Alice was. However, Emma also felt secretly pleased that things weren’t working out. Alice doesn’t seem to care about Mr. Rowland’s pride and dignity at all. She’s going to suffer if she triggers his temper, Emma thought.
“It’s fine. I’ll give you something else the next time, and one day, I’ll buy you something that’s right for you.” Keith didn’t seem to mind it at all. He wore a warm and easy smile on his face that made him seem especially approachable. He no longer looked like his usual harsh and cold self. A man who is willing to change for a woman is a man who’s really sincere and genuine, Emma thought. Jealousy was written all over her face at that point. She desperately wanted to just tear Alice into pieces. Why? How could she? I’m better than her in so many ways. Why does she always take all the good things away from me?
James, on the other hand, seemed especially pleased by his grandson’s actions. For once, it seemed to James that Keith was doing the right thing. However, James didn’t express his satisfaction. Instead, he let out an icy scoff. “You don’t even know how to give gifts! What a useless man. Just ignore him, Alice. Come over and take a seat.”
Alice froze once more. James seemed to have a knack for disrupting her plans and catching her off- guard. She never got a chance to say what she wanted to say.
“Mr. Knight, Keith has sent Mrs. Knight a truck full of roses.” Caleb, who was first to receive the news, couldn’t help but report to his boss in a shaky tone. Caleb was certain that Ethan would be furious to hear the news, but Caleb also knew that he couldn’t keep things a secret. “Did she accept the flowers?” The temperature around Ethan seemed to have dropped a few degrees, and the air that escaped his mouth as he spoke felt cold enough to freeze things up.
“Our men didn’t see if that happened,” Caleb froze for a moment before he responded honestly. After all, he couldn’t send their men into the house. Ethan seemed to calm down a little after that.
“But… Keith sent the flowers to Woland Residence, and Mrs. Knight is there right now.” Caleb added another piece of information at that point. Caleb’s message was clear—Keith had sent the flowers to Woland Residence, and Alice was in the house, so she would have to accept the flowers no matter what. Ethan’s face turned eerily dark and grim after that. Keith sure has a lot of tricks up his sleeve. Roses? A truck full of roses?
“I want you to get my plane ready. I need to go back to Rodcaster now.” Ethan couldn’t even wait for a flight at this point and chose to use the private plane instead. Someone was pining for his wife, so he had to rush back as soon as possible. Keith is trying to propose marriage, huh? Great. Wait till I get there…
Soon after that, Ethan dialed Alice’s number and gave her a call. He made three consecutive calls, yet she didn’t pick up a single one of them. His gaze turned icier after that. At that moment, Alice’s phone was ringing inside her bag that was placed on the couch while she washed some grapes in the kitchen…
