Encounter

The past days were so stressful for Matthew as Nathalie works in KTI as the Gryme’s Empire representative. She comes to the office now and then and even got her desk. Her father’s influence is so enormous that his father can’t refuse his request.

Nathalie’s father owns a big percentage of KTI stocks and even invested a large amount of money. Aleia refused to work in KTI to avoid some conflict with her sister. Her wife is always the one adjusting to her war freak and bitchy sister.

He always gives her assurance not to be attached to Nathalie but as always her wife seems to have a very big heart. Her love for him was so genuine. She trusted him with all her heart.

That morning, he called her as soon as he reached the office after the meeting. He wanted to know what was she doing.

“Hello!” Aleia answered.

He smiled when he heard her sweet voice on the other line. “Sweetheart, what are you up to now?”

“Ohm, I’m at the mall to buy something. Are you in the office?” she asked.

“Yeah-” He stopped when he saw Nathalie entering the office.

‘What is she doing here? he thought. As far as he could remember he does not have any appointment with her.

“Zach! Are you okay?” Aleia asked again.

He cleared his throat.” Yes, Ale.” His heartbeat was racing as Nathalie was going near him. He did not want Aleia to be worried in Nathalie’s presence.

“Matt, can I have lunch with you? I just want to have some company while eating,” Nathalie said as she sat in the corner of his table. She was exposing some of her skin though to seduce him.

“Zach, is that Nathalie?” Aleia asked again on the other line while Nathalie was listening to their conversation.

“Yes, sweet.” He runs out of words to say. He stood and walked away from Nathalie so he can talk freely with her wife on the phone.” Sorry, Ale. She is inevitable these days.” He heaved a sigh.

“It’s fine. I trust you and that’s normal because you work together. As long as you don’t flirt with her.” Aleia said.

Aleia knew that her husband needs to work with her professionally. Their families are business partners ever since and their fathers are best of friends.

“It won’t happen, sweetheart.” He gave her assurance.

“I know. I’ll see you later then. I love you.”

“I love you too,” he responded.

Since they confessed their feelings they have been also vocal and expressive to each other. It somewhat put their marriage to another level. His intention of getting even from deceiving him vanished. He saw how genuine is his wife and how much she loves him. He was her wife’s, only love.

“Am I hearing it right?” Nathalie said at his back so he turned to face her. Nathalie was smiling sarcastically as if mocking him.

“Please, Nathalie stop bugging me. I’m a married man now,” he said calmly.

Nathalie bit her lip and chuckled. ” That’s what made this hard, Matthew because you were supposed to marry me. I am supposed to marry you. I should have been your wife now but you shifted to my sister. Did she seduce you?”

He did not want to hurt Nathalie but he guessed he needed to spill the bean on her. Maybe this was the only way to stop her from chasing him and bugging him around.

“Nat,” he said.” I don’t like the idea of marrying you. I treated you as my sister ever since our paths crossed. And David likes you. He was so into you. There’s no way it will happen. Please let’s move on from here.”

He was shocked to see tears. Nathalie was crying and he was so nervous. He knew Nathalie has a heart problem and her dad would kill him if something bad happens to her daughter.

Nathalie reached out for his hand and squeezed it tightly. She was shaking and her hands were cold.

“Nat, please calm down. Stop crying,” he said while giving her a light pat on the back.

“Am I really hard to love? Why can’t you even try? Instead of trying to love me, you shifted your attention to Aleia,” Nathalie said.

“That’s not the point. Why don’t you sit for a while and I’ll get a glass of water for you?.” He assisted Nathalie to sit and went out to get a glass of water.

When he came back, Nathalie was just sitting silently while looking outside the window. She used to hate the bratty nature of this woman but looking at how desperate she was, he somewhat pities her.

But we can’t dictate whom our hearts should love. He sat in front of her and gave her the water.

“Here!” he said.

She smiled a bit.” Thank you. Do you love… love her now? I mean your wife. She must be so lucky to have you.” She looked away after and wiped a fallen tear.

Zach was silent for a while. He was the only one that her wife has after her father got married again.

“Yes, I’m sorry. I met Aleia on the island when I ran away from our engagements. We got along really well. I fell in love with her at that time. But she did not mention your family. She pretended not to know me and acted like a stranger.”

He wanted to add that he hated her after knowing that she deceived him and decided to marry her to get even. But he kept it inside. Things between him and Aleia are doing good. He did not want to ruin the good start that they have.

Aleia is the perfect woman for her and the wife that every man would be glad to have.

” Yet, you still love her even if she lied to you.”

He sighed. “I think that’s the power of love. It can forgive and it can heal any wound. I also hope, Nathalie, that you can move on from this. You deserve a better man. a kind of man who will love you more than you love him.”

She laughed lightly and said.” I wonder if it will still happen. But anyway, do you mind if I would go home and rest? I am not feeling good. I want to rest.”

“No problem.” He stood and assisted her.

“Thanks. Would you mind giving me a ride home? I think I can’t drive right now.” Nathalie said as she clung g to his arms for strength.

Matthew was stunned for a moment. Her wife would not love that idea. But Nathalie was on her territory and he needs to make sure that she would arrive safely.

“Let’s go,” he said. He will just call her later and tell her that he’ll just drop Nathalie home. He will just call Aleia to join her for lunch.
