Chapter 12
The next day, the doctor made sure that both Chloe and Vanessa are physically fit the next day.
The orthopedic surgeon gave Nessa the next but the last treatment in the morning which made her able to stand on her feet without help and didn’t feel any pain.
She walked around the ward feeling so happy, while Chloe was infused at the moment.
Xavier had left some minutes ago to go get their meal, and he wasn’t back yet. Staying with Chloe all this while was kinda full of fun, she couldn’t stop uttering gibberish words to her and she loved it.
She wonders how a little girl like her would always say things bigger than she is, Chloe is just a little girl with bigger thoughts upstairs. And you know what? She loves how smart and intelligent she is.
Nessa created certain scenes for her while walking around the room, she needs to strengthen her legs. It was uneasy for her to believe that she will walk this fast, she had thought of staying for weeks before doing that.
“Ma’am Vanessa, when dad comes back, you’ll be the one to feed me my meal, or I won’t eat it,” Chloe stated remarkably.
That statement sounded twice to her hearing, she glanced at Chloe and smiled.
“You don’t need to bother yourself, sweetheart, I’ll feed you with the meal myself.” She assured Chloe who was trying to control the happiness within her.
Vanessa glanced at her and chuckled, she believes this is one of the reasons her immune system is down and then she’s lacking blood.
She’s very sure that Xavier will never starve his children, nor will he give them just a diet for a whole year.
Xavier is damn rich, and so his children aren’t alleged to lack a dime… That’s what she believes about the young man.
She got seated beside Chloe and gripped her palm, her eyes affixed on her face until she couldn’t bear it but the two burst into laughter.
“Do you still remember my name, I am Chloe Brown and you are ma’am Vanessa…” the little girl uttered as a joke. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
She nodded while staring into her eyeballs. “I can still remember the name of the almighty daughter of Mr. Xavier Brown. She’s so amusing and can’t hold a word or sentence to herself. Keeping mute is one sickness in her that can never be cured, so cheerful and beautiful.”
Chloe blushed, she rubbed her hair with her left palm. “Ma’am Vanessa, when will I be free from this infusion? I’m so tired of seeing my hand stay still all this while.”
Nessa caressed her cheek while her eyes lifted as she studied the infusion.
“You need to be on this to restore your health. Otherwise, you might lose consciousness all the time, and that’s not good…” She widened her eyes on hearing the sounds made by her stomach. “When you’re done taking this medication, make sure to always eat and sleep properly, it helps a lot. Don’t ever get into deep thought, for goodness sake you’re still a child.’
Chloe swallowed the saliva in her mouth, she had to speak up her mind at this point.
“I’ll only stop thinking if you accept to be my babysitter, that alone will make me the happiest on this earth. In exception of that, then note that I won’t stop thinking about you all night.” She stated audibly not minding Vanessa’s action.
She thought of what she said for a while and decided to oppose it.
“I’m a businesswoman and I can’t leave my bakery to come to babysit you. Besides, your father is about to marry a second wife, so I don’t think there’s any reason to have me as your babysitter again when she’s there.” She adjusted on the bed and then covered herself so well with the blanket.
Precisely, she won’t like to come challenging someone’s fiancee or rather a wife. The fact that Xavier is getting married soon is one reason she can’t work there again.
She’s overwhelmed with jealousy on sighting Lilian with him, and so she wouldn’t love to be running around in the same building with Lilian when she has a better business doing.
“Ma’am Vanessa you can’t do this to me, to be honest, I don’t love that lady. Look, she’s my father’s wife and that’s all about her that I know.” She turned her face to the wall trying to hide the tears that already gathered in her eyes. “You aren’t coming there for her, but rather as my babysitter. I don’t want her to take care of me. Never, I don’t want it. My only happiness to keep staying in that home is if you’re with me, I can’t stay with her.”
Vanessa watched as the girl spoke out in pain, she understood how she felt but the reason behind her declining the work is what no one can ever know.
“So now I’m I gonna be coping with my business and then babysitting you?” She asked her expecting a reply.
Chloe wiped her face, she so much loved that question and is ready to answer.
“This is my idea on how you’ll do it to our favor. In the morning, you’ll come around and dress me up for school after which you’ll leave to your bakery. When I’m back from school, I’ll come and stay with you in your bakery and in the evening we’ll leave for my home together. Then you’ll leave after I take my bath, have my meal and you cuddle me to bed…”
“Ma’am Vanessa, you can also feel free with me in my room, like having some of your clothes in my room so you will always take your bath and leave back home after the day,” Chloe suggested.
She knitted her brows, the little girl’s idea made more sense to her and seems to be abiding.
The door was ripped open and Xavier walked in with their plate of meals packaged carefully. He stared at Nessa and smiled.
“So you can walk with your legs and you aren’t feeling pains huh?” He asked her.
She nodded out of excitement. “I’m very fine now, and can’t wait for Chloe to be on her feet again.”
Chloe gripped the bed cover while staring at her dad. “I’m not gonna take that meal until she accedes to grant my request.”
She narrowed her eyes. “But I promised to feed you with the meal myself.”
“Yes, but…” her eyes met with that of her dad who sighed at her.
Xavier grabbed the seat and got seated. “Just do this for me please, I promise to pay you in huge.”
She stared into his eyes but couldn’t tell anything about it. The young man is charming that it’s spellbinding her.
At that moment, she nodded to it. “I’ll grant her request, but will only be around in the morning and evening.”
“No problem, I love it that way,” Chloe added feeling so happy.
Vanessa noticed that the infusion was done, and she left to call on the nurse who came over and took it off.
***********
Vanessa was back with Xavier and Chloe in the morning after taking the meal, she decided to make some sales before leaving for Chloe’s home in the evening.
She began cleaning up the environment after which she prepared little cupcakes and brownies. Due to her certain change of work now, she doesn’t need to bake much to avoid staying long.
Just like the customers knew that she won’t hesitate to shut her shop for the day, they couldn’t let her take a step. She ran around trying her best to serve all that were present in the bakery.
After a while, Chloe arrived at the bakery, she loved the presence of the little girl and had missed interacting with her.
She helped her get certain things for people waiting to be served, while Vanessa packaged them for them and got paid.
“Ma’am Vanessa, you’ll teach me how to bake a cupcake. I love that so much.” Chloe requested.
She ran her fingers in her hair. “You can’t learn just about cupcakes when I prepare others too. The fruit bread, brownies, and the rest are good to be learned too.”
The little girl giggled, she doesn’t desire to be a baker though, all she wants is to learn about her best stuff. But she believes being with Vanessa will push her into learning how to bake lots of it, and she would appreciate it too.
“After spending some time with Nessa, she decided to leave back home and take her lunch after which she will be back again.
When the crowd vanished from her bakery, she got seated trying to take some rest when a footstep approached her.
Her eyes were a bit open to know who stepped in but she couldn’t see anyone, rather she felt a tap on her shoulder.
She widened her eyes in great shock at capturing the image that stood directly opposite her.
