Devoted Love, Mr. Hayes’ Darling Wife

Chapter 62: A heartbeat that cannot be ignored.

At the mountain clinic.

Estrella Berrocal had slept for a dozen hours and woke up hungry.

When she awoke, her eyes stung raw from the white walls surrounding her.

He stared at the snow-white ceiling, his voice was dry and unconsciously whispering, “Where is this…?”

Was it heaven? Had he hung up so soon?

A familiar masculine scent enveloped her nostrils, and her watery eyes startled as she looked down, covered by a man’s black trench coat.

Before his brain could fully react, a low, magnetic, familiar male voice spoke in a warm: “This is a clinic in the mountains, you have a low fever, plus you haven’t eaten for over forty-eight hours, your strength is depleted and you have fainted.”

The handsome face before him suddenly grew large.

Adán Rouco …?

The beats in his chest were beating so violently that it seemed as if they would burst out.

Adam Rouco ignored her dazed expression and lifted her in his arms, bringing a glass of water to her mouth with his long, slender hand. “Drink.”

His voice, like a fire in the snow, was indistinguishable between cold and warmth, but it reassured her enormously.

She looked at him in amazement, not daring to blink for a moment, fearing that if she closed her eyes, the Adam Rouco in front of her would disappear.

“Am I, am I not in the subway cellar? Or, am I… am I dreaming?”

But his smell, his look, so real in front of her eyes, so real that it made her want to cry.

She had just been through something so dark and horrible, and although she had a stronger and braver heart than the average girl, she was still terrified, and wanted to find someone to lean on in the most desperate moments, and Adán Rouco, so naturally, gave her something to lean on and a sense of security.

Adam Rouco looked at her with deep eyes, curled his long fingers and tapped her forehead lightly, “Do you still think you’re dreaming?”Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

She didn’t respond for a moment, and then, after a long moment, she bit her lip and looked at him, tears streaming down her face.

“Adán Rouco …”

The little woman suddenly rushed into his arms, her hands still clinging to his neck, crying like a wounded kitten, aggrieved and pitiful, Adam Rouco’s icy heart crushed and melted at the sound of those tiny cries, the lake of his heart, which had long been calm, unexpectedly had a slight agitation.

Only instinctively resting on the warmth of his body, she wrapped both arms around his neck, squeezing tighter and tighter until the man’s clear voice opened, ‘Estrella Berrocal, I just saved you and you want to murder me?’”

She flinched, flushed, and let go of his neck, but his long arms were quicker to encircle her waist and pull her back into his arms, their eyes suddenly collided, her watery eyes clearly boring into his deep, dark pupils, her eyes were like a typhoon’s, motionless on the outside but a huge swirl of wind and clouds on the inside, as if to draw people in.

His gaze was softer and more sensual than usual and Estrella Berrocal closed her eyes.

One second, two seconds, three seconds … imagined that the kiss took time to fall.

Until the mocking male voice rang in her ears, “What are you waiting for?”.

Estrella Berrocal’s eyes snapped open to see the man looking at her playfully, leaning close to her ear and asking, “You’re not waiting for me to kiss you, are you?”

The man was playing with her.

Her face was red and hot, and she was about to push him away when he grabbed her chin and lifted it, and the moment her eyes widened, his thin lips landed on hers!

She was stunned for only a few seconds before following her heart and wrapping her arms around his neck, tilting the nape of her neck to respond to his kiss in a youthful, unskillful way.

Estrella Berrocal had to admit to herself that she was a little in love with Adán Rouco, if not to the point of breaking up with him, but that the turmoil in her heart could not be ignored.

The long kiss, unhurried and even a little soft, was nothing like the one Adán Rouco gave.

A proud man like Adán Rouco, arrogant, domineering and cold, had kissed her like this before, but tonight, for Estrella Berrocal, the kiss was more like a real kiss, soft, gentle and soothing to her troubled heart.

Only when Estrella Berrocal found it hard to breathe did Adán Rouco let go of her slightly, leaned his forehead against hers and murmured, “Sorry I’m late.”

Her voice was magnetic, and the words made Estrella Berrocal’s chest vibrate.

She had imagined that Adán Rouco would come to her rescue, but when he appeared in front of her and saved her, she was more than surprised and excited.

For the first time since her father’s death, she felt she had a shoulder to lean on and a sense of security in her most devastating moments.

She leaned into his arms, her eyes and heart warm as if something was melting, and she whimpered in his arms and murmured, “Adán Rouco, thank you for coming to my rescue.”

The little woman in his arms was biting her lip, holding back her sobs, her eyelashes thick and thin like a small fan, with teardrops hanging from them, her nose twitching, her weeping look strikingly similar to Paulita’s.

The man couldn’t help but reach up and wipe the tears from her face, “Paulita is still waiting for you to go home for her birthday.”

At the mention of Paulita, Estrella Berrocal’s heart fluttered and instead she cried harder, clutching her shirt with both hands and choking back a sob, “I’m sorry…. I won’t be able to make it to Paulita’s birthday.”

Her tears, soaking the shirt on his chest, the soft white hands scratching the folds of his shirt, Adán Rouco looked down and couldn’t help but kiss her on the forehead.

“Paulita’s birthday, every year from now on.”

Adán Rouco was not a comforting man, he had only comforted Paulita and no other woman in the last thirty-two years of his life, and such a light sentence was a great comfort to Estrella Berrocal.

Estrella Berrocal’s mind reeled as she wept, remembering that Paulita’s birthday was the same day as the son she had given birth to through surrogacy, and she looked at Adán Rouco in astonishment as the man frowned slightly and asked, “What’s wrong?”

The thought that crossed his mind was quickly dismissed.

There was no reason for a man like Adán Rouco to look for a surrogate and, besides, how could Olivia Montes allow him to find another woman to have a child with?

Maybe it really was a coincidence …

She was too cowardly and timid to open the scar in front of Adam Rouco and expose the bloody wound without reservation, but if he denied it, she simply could not end it.

She shook her head and asked crestfallen, “Didn’t you say you had something to tell me the night before Paulita’s birthday?”

What are you going to tell him?
