Chapter 87
Kaia POV
The pack meeting to discuss defence tactics has overrun, which if Samson wasn't present for, I would be feg guilty about delaying our dinner plans. But him being here himself, he is starting to get an insider's knowledge of just how much hard work it takes to defend the borders by a number of threats.
We were currently discussing which packs I had personally visited recently, and out of those visited, which ones that have already agreed to or are likely to agree to signing a peace treaty. Things had progressed quicker with my arrival, I think a female's touch was needed when handling affairs of a delicate matter with males.Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
"What about the Crystal Moon Pack?" Father asks the warriors and myself.
I choose to keep quiet, I hadn't visited that pack yet and for good reason. I know for a fact it is linked to the alliance that the Dark Phantom pack is apart of. I know I can't put of visiting the Crystal Moon Pack for the sake of our pack member's safety, but I will delay it for as long as possible. I can't have certain people know of my links to this pack, of my presence here.
For the last hour, something was troubling Father. He kept shifting on his seat as if he were uncomfortable. As if something was bothering him.
"Is everything okay Father?" I mind-link him. As soon as I arrived, Father declared me the missing heir to the pack and a party was hosted in my honour where was officially made a pack member. I was no longer a rogue, which did cause a few issues on my travels in finding Father's location.
"Something doesn't feel right, something is warning me to check the borders." He responds back through. the mind-link as we both continue to listen to a warrior discussing defence techniques.
This wasn't the first time Father's wolf was giving him a warning signal, but often it was a false alarm. This was contested land which meant our wolves were never truly able to settle, we always felt on edge. Danger always lurked near the borders, even the humans on the sandy beaches could be felt by our
wolves.
"Keep your eyes vigilant on the borders...something doesn't feel right." I open our mind-link up to the guards on the borders, I could feel the sense of dread myself. Something that I was still getting used to.
That's when the sound of bells start to ring from outside, just as a guard pushes back on my mind-link to warn us of an attack and the exact location. Before he could finish his voice stops dead and a sickness in my gut washes over me.
"Get to the borders!" I roar out in the meeting room, Father already feg the loss of life through the pack bond as his hand goes to his chest.
No not again.
We run outside to hear the warning bells ringing from every direction, each post was under threat.
"We are under attack, those who can fight get to the borders! Expectant mothers and children are to remain in lockdown!" I order through the pack-link, Samson close by my side as I prepare to run to the borders. "Kaia!" Father shouts at me from behind, he is unable to run...even in wolf form his leg prevents him from
running at the speed we need right now.
"No Father you stay here!" I could only think of protecting him, how I couldn't lose him.
"You aren't going." He growls at me, pulling me back into him.
"I can fight, you'll only slow me down."
He looks hurt by my admission but it was true, we would be slow in arriving to the battle and I couldn't concentrate worrying about also defending Father. It was harsh, but it was meant in a way to protect him. "You stick by her, you don't let her out of your sight." He points his finger to Samson, a warning tone in his voice.
"Yes Alpha!"
"Do I have your word?"
"Yes Alpha, you have my word. I will guard her with my life." Samson's beta tone gives Father some reassurance but I know this is hard for him. To let me go to battle without him. He protected me before by sending me away...but he can't do that now and I wouldn't let him. I'm not the young adult I once was.
didn't have time for this, and neither did the pack members already at the border and those hiding in their homes with their innocent children. Even by standing here we were losing too many lives.
I had to stop the attack by any means possible.
I start running, my wolf pressing beneath my skin as I strip my clothes off as I run. Samson remains by my side, also stripping, and as we exit the main pack grounds I shift.
The cracking of bones ignites my wolf's fire within me. She had been dormant for a month. I hadn't been allowed to shift since arriving at the pack grounds, Father had forbidden for me to do so.
But this attack was different, something seemed more fierce about it. I had no choice but to shift. Any taboo Father carried from our previous pack wouldn't work here, times had changed. I had changed.
My white wolf runs alongside Samson's sandy brown coloured wolf, her back bone stretching out in preparation for the fight ahead of us. She doesn't stop running once, not even with the sight of wolves attacking our own.
It only spurs her on to defend our Father's claim to these lands. I push her forward, her legs even outrunning Samson's wolf, as we jump mid air, crashing into a group of foraying wolves..
