Chapter 126
Kaia POV
I don't want to wake up but I can feel gentle soft hands stroking my face, a feminine voice calling my
name
"Kaia?"
"What time is it?" I turn moaning into my pillow, still half asleep. Eager to go straight back to sleep as that level of dread returns to me.
"It's time for breakfast, what time did you get in?"
"I don't know...3am..."
"3am? Were you at the medical centre the entire time? Alora clicks her tongue at me, concern in her voice. It was starting to feice to have someone other than Father care about my welfare.
Yes we still had a long way to go, but I could feel that sisterly bond... that twin bond, moulding into place. "I had no choice, we are short on nurses...I should go back actually." I sit up, already mentally preparing myself for another long day of blood and bandages. "I'll come with you, but after breakfast, you need to eat first."
"I'm fine..."Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
"No arguing, you skipped dinner, you need breakfast..."wonder which one of us was more like Mother... I can imagine mother would have been assertive yet maternal as Alora is being just now. And to think I was the older twin,
"Or is it a certain someone you are trying to avoid?" She really just hit the nail on the head. I was hoping a late night would result in missing breakfast, and being able to get straight to the medical centre without seeing anyone...especially him. "Maybe..." I sigh out, running my fingers through my long bed slept hair.
"There's nothing to worry about.."
"I'm not worried..."
"Good, then we will face him...together. Come on...it's like a band ald...once it's done, it's done. You shouldn't be walking on eggshells in your own home or pack. Besides, imagine he will leave today, Beckett seemed keen to see them gone. Said something about not entertaining whilst the pack is in mourning from yesterday."
I don't miss the way Alora continues to call Father Beckett, she may never feel comfortable in calling him that. Her parents are the ones that adopted her and raised her, but we still needed to ask questions of why she was taken from us, why she ended up at the Amber Desert pack in the first place.
She holds her hand out to me and I hesitantly take it, I'd still much rather skip the breakfast reunion.
I quickly throw on some leggings and a vest preparing for training before breakfast and the medical
centre.

When we walk downstairs, hand in hand, the breakfast table is already set. Father, Samson, Hector and Jude already sitting at the table conversing lightly amongst themselves.
As we both enter, all eyes dart towards us...Hector's eyes landing on my hand tightly clasped in Alora's.. Who, is gently stroking the back of my hand with her thumb to remind me she is there....she knows this is difficult for me.
"It will be okay, I promise." She says to me through the mind-link, a small encouraging smile forming on her lips.
"I didn't expect to see you for breakfast Kaia, should you be awake?" Father asks as he pours me some breakfast tea from the teapot.
"It's fine, I need to get to the medical centre to check on the patients. I'll do that immediately after training and remain there all day." My eyes inadvertently flicker to Hector who was considering my words as he gently blows out on his cup of coffee. His mouth in an open pout as he cools down his drink. I have to swallow the lump that forms in the back of my throat.
My mind darts back to the memory of the first time we met in his coffee shop. How at the time I thought finding the notorious alpha of the dark phantom pack was all I needed to keep me safe from Than.... I close my eyes tightly as my eyes look down at my flat belly, a memory I haven't had for a while... that feg of emptiness still deep within me. A rounding belly no more.
Alora must somehow pick up on my emotions as she places her hand upon my thigh.
"No training today..." Samson smirks at me from across the table as he reaches for a croissant in the central basket.
"Oh?
"Yes, Alora will take your place this morning. Just gentle exercising though Samson, I'm still waiting for the results.." "Results?" Jude questions.
"Yes, I'm waiting for results to see if I am a match to Albra..."
"For?" Hector looks between Alora and Father inquisitively.
"For a kidney transplant." I could curse Father for not only openly discussing this, but being so laid back about his own health.
"Well...we haven't decided on anything yet." Alora chips in, her eyes side glancing to mine.
"No, but the results are the first step."
