Chapter 113
Alora POV
The dull grating pain that has been suppressed thanks to the tablets the doctor prescribed wears off in my sleep and a piercing pain wakes me up. The doctor wants to assess me further, put me back on machines. but I don't want that. It will only be delaying the inevitable.
Even taking blood...the silver the doctor used burnt at my skin, I couldn't go through that on a daily basis. I am not that strong. I know my fate, I will only be adding days on to it in the end.
I've been asleep for the past 4 years, I want to live every moment to its fullest, as fullest as I can.
I head downstairs into the kitchen to get a glass of water to take with my tablets when I hear giggling from the sitting room. It was gone midnight, who would be up at this time.
Then I hear Kaia's low laughter, a sound I didn't often hear.
Peaking through the gap in the door, I expect to find them both on the sofa, but they aren't. They are both sat on the floor by a fire, roasting what appears to be marshmallows. Looking cosy...too cosy for my liking.
I should leave, I was being nosey... rude watching but I couldn't help myself. Something within me clawed at me not to trust him. Both Kaia and Beckett seemed grateful for his return, but I felt it was too well timed.
According to Kaia he had been communicating with her even during her time at the Amber Desert Pack. So why now, why return now when she was reunited with her Father. Why not help her when she was alone, at her most vulnerable. Maybe I was overthinking it but I felt his return had an ulterior motive. "This is totally unhealthy..." Kaia giggles as she wipes melted marshmallow off her chin.
"Don't worry about it, you'll work it off in training tomorrow."
"Uh oh, sounds like a threat." Kaia giggles as she leans to the side pouring wine into her empty glass.
"I'm just following the Alpha's orders!" Samson smiles before placing a fresh untoasted mashmallow on the stick and holding it above the fire.
"Which you do so well.." She slurs, was she drunk?
"Huh, I think you're the only one who thinks so." Samson scoffs as he pulls the stick out, blowing on the marshmallow.
"What do you mean?"
"Beckett isn't in a rush to make me Beta. In fact, he seems to have forgotten." I can't believe what I am watching..a beta totally over stepping the mark. Not only with his moaning of the alpha to the alpha's daughter but now he is feeding Kala the marshmallow, wiping her lips clean with his fingers.
"No, of course he hasn't. He's just been preoccupied, what with Alora's return....he plans to Samson. He Just wants to make her an official pack member and then he will make Samson, just give him time."
you the beta. You know he will
Do I want to be in a pack with Samson as the beta, I'm not entirely sure? He doesn't seem to trust me, but then I don't trust him.
It works both ways I suppose.
Kala wasn't at breakfast and judging by Samson's dark circles under his eyes, they remained up until the early hours of the morning. He can sense me watching him across the table, as he butters his toast and pours freshly squeezed orange juice into his cup.
I had decided in the early hours of the moming that being a pack member would afford me the opportunity to keep a closer eye on Samson, that feg the pack bond running through me and as the alpha's daughter, I might finally understand his intentions with my sister. She might trust him, but I don't..
For once in her life, Kaia needs someone who selfishly would look out for her and I don't think Samson is that person. I know what it means for me but I feel this is exactly where I am meant to be, that I've come back for her.
"Where is your Sister, its not like her to miss breakfast She's usefully the first up." Beckett asks as he puts down his morning pack report.
"I think she had a late night." My eyes flicker to Samson who holds a small smirk to the corner of his lips. "Alpha?" The doctor enters the alpha house and I have to smother the moan that wants to escape me. He was persistent in trying to treat me.
"In here.....dont worry dear, he isn't here for you. Why don't you go for a walk this morning, only the inner pack lands mind. Give you some more time to think about your future here." Beckett suggests as he stands up to join the doctor in the privacy of his office "I don't need more time." "Oh?"Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
"I'm ready to join the pack." I stand up facing Beckett, deliberately blocking Samson from him. "That's fantastic news, I will get things in motion. Just think, my girls...back with me under the same pack link. Oh your mother would be so happy." Beckett walks over to embrace me, holding me tightly.
I take Beckett up on his suggestion for a walk, but I do go further than he suggests....I go to the cliff tops overlooking the ocean. Enjoying the morning view of the bay down below I close my eyes, letting my legs overhang the edge as I take in the sun's mornings rays. A light breeze runs across the cliff tops only adding to the tranquility of my surroundings. For a pack under constant threat it does feel peaceful at regular intervals, I can see why Beckett is keen to protect that peace.
My own tranquil current moment however is under threat when I hear someone running to me from behind. I swing my legs away from the cliff's edge, turning to find an enraged Kala running up to me.
