Chapter 165

Dana couldn’t accept it. She had a good relationship with her sister. After being recommended by her

sister to join the Raymond Corporation, she also had a smooth life in the Raymond Corporation

because of her sister’s relationship with lan. But ever since Maja showed up, Dana had been criticized

by lan for the first time, and then again.

He’d never treated her like this before.

Tears welled up in Dana’s eyes. Even without her laying it on thick, her victim act was enough to make

people suspicious of Maja.

She didn’t respond to Maja’s words, making the atmosphere somewhat awkward.

The senior management was eyeing Maja. She wasn’t exactly a known figure. Even though she had

some reputation among interior designers, none of these executives were her clients, so they all

considered her a rookie.

But Dana was a different story. She was Carlene’s sister, and Carlene was set to be the future wife of

the Raymond Corporation’s president.

If anyone stood up for Dana now, it would be like sucking up to Mr. Raymond.

So, some of them started speaking up.

“Which floor do you work on? We all saw it clear as day when the doors opened, Ms. Shepard was on

her knees in front of you, and you didn’t even help her up. And you do know that you need an

appointment to come up to the top floor, right? You’re not like one of those women who keep pestering

the receptionist, trying to sneak up here to see the president, are you?

It was true that some women had tried to sneak up with the top floor staff before being caught and

hauled off by the cops.

Everyone knew lan couldn’t stand that sort of harassment.

When Dana heard the executive’s questioning, a small smile tugged at the corner of her mouth, but her

eyes became even redder, making her look terribly wronged.

Dana was good–looking, and it was easy for a man to comfort her with the crying appearance. But

because of her ties with Carlene, the male staff at the top had never dared to confess their feelings to

her, although they’d made plenty of attempts to win her favor behind the scenes.

And now they had a bunch of executives here who were suckers for damsels in distress.

Compared with the weak Dana, the expressionless Maja was not very popular with men. Most men

have heroism and like to play the protector.

Maja turned to lan, who didn’t seem inclined to help her out.

It seemed like she was only rely on her own.

“I have a personal appointment with Mr. Raymond himself today.”

She said, pulling out her business card with a smile.

“I’m Penny. I was responsible for Mr. Raymond’s house renovation. I’m here to update him on the

progress. I apologize for not helping Ms. Shepard up just now. That was my bad.”

She then took out a tissue and handed it to Dana.

“Ms. Shepard, stop crying, or people might think I’m bullying you.”

This move left Dana no room to continue her act.

Maja had been so sincere, so clear, and now she was handing her a tissue.

If she didn’t take it and tried to tattle, Maja would surely bring out the surveillance video as proof. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

If she took it, it would mean that what Maja said was true. She’d only been startled by the elevator’s

jolt, and the executive who

had eagerly defended her would become a laughingstock.

Dana was furious. If she’d known Maja wouldn’t be intimidated by the executives and would pull a stunt

like this, she wouldn’t have pretended.

But now she was between a rock and a hard place. All she could do was take the tissue.

“Thank you, Ms. Penny.”

Each word seemed to be squeezed out from between her teeth, as if she could tear Maja up.

But Maja was unfazed by the hostility, even breaking into a smile. “You’re welcome.”

The executive who had defended Dana earlier was blushing and trying to pretend nothing had

happened. He was inwardly cursing Dana’s tears that made her look like a victim and made him look

foolish.

Maja defused the situation and turned to lan.

“Mr. Raymond, aren’t you coming in?”

lan didn’t say anything. He just looked at Dana.

For some reason, Dana felt a pang of anxiety and quickly lowered her head, walking out with her eyes

still red.

lan walked in, followed by the other executives.

Maja stepped aside, wondering why he didn’t take his private elevator. She had no idea it was under

maintenance today and that lan had to attend a function.

The atmosphere in the small elevator was somewhat delicate.

Maja’s gaze fell on lan’s cuff. He’d changed cufflinks. The silver–blue cufflinks Carlene had just given

him were on his white shirt. Paired with his suit, the icy blue made him look even more aloof.

He really did love Carlene. Within ten minutes of receiving the cufflinks, he couldn’t wait to put them

on.
