Chapter 10
Title: Worried about him
Maybelline Walter POV
My day was boring as I’ve been alone at home. Miles got a call from the company and he was yet to come back after he left in the morning.
It was a beautiful evening and I had just finished having a cold shower when I came back into my room and found my phone ringing.
“Who is it?” I mumbled as I walked over to the bed where I left the phone earlier, and I checked to see the caller was my sweetheart, Lily.
“Hey, darling,” I slumped on the bed excitedly.
“I’ve been calling you all day but you never answered any of my calls,” I whined.
“I’m sorry. I had to rush to the hospital after Mr. Miguel dropped me off earlier. There was an emergency at the hospital,”
“Oh… Hope it’s settled now?” I asked her.
“Not really. The patient needed surgery, but the surgeon was not around, so she was transferred to another hospital,” She replied to me, and I nodded.
“How is your husband?” She asked and snickered.
“We are just contracted couples…”
“He is the father of your baby, you know?” She reminded me, and I rolled my eyes.
“That does not make him my husband…”Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“You signed a contract with him,” She reminded me again, and I shook my head unbelievably.
“Whatever!”
“What about Mr. Miguel? That guy is so freaking handsome. Gosh! I think I have a crush on him. I’m definitely going to shoot my shot at him,” She whined, and I rolled my eyes.
“Don’t keep your hope high, baby girl. You don’t look like you are his type of woman,”
“Come on, May. Don’t jinx things for me,” I heard her click her tongue, and I scoffed.
“Whatever! I got to go now. Let’s talk tomorrow,” I said to her before the call ended. I tossed my phone on the bed and went to sit in front of the mirror. I still had that white bandage wrapped around my head with a blood stain on the side of it.
“When are they going to remove this?” I mumbled as I touched it.
After my usual routine, I wore a short gown and left my room to take a walk.
“Do you need help, ma’am?” Adelie asked me as soon as I arrived at the living room.
“No, thanks. I just want to take a walk around the compound,” I replied to her, and she nodded.
“Call me if you need anything,” She said to me before I left the house. I took my time to tour the large compound, and all I could say was ‘wow’. Everything about the house screamed wealth and luxury.
I soon got tired of walking around, and just when I was about to go back inside, my phone started to ring, so I paused and checked the caller.
“Hey, wife,” Miles’s voice sounded from the other end, and my heart fluttered.
“Are you sleeping?” He asked, but I felt tongue-tied and couldn’t say anything.
“Hmm… I’m here,” I managed to reply to him.
“Have you eaten yet?”
“Hmm,” I just hummed while my heart did the talking as it hammered hard like it was going to explode. Why does talking to him make my heart palpitate? I asked myself but couldn’t come up with a logical answer.
“Alright. You should sleep early. I have something to deal with out here and I might come back late. Adelie will attend to you if you need anything,” He said again, and I slowly nodded.
“Hmm,”
“Bye,” He said before the call ended, and I finally breathed out as I’d been holding my breath unknowingly.
“What is he up to?” I mumbled while looking at the screen of my phone. A part of me was sad that I wouldn’t see him before I went to bed tonight, but I tried to limit my thoughts because there was really no reason for me to be like that.
I brushed my thoughts away and left for my room.
“I made your bed, ma’am. Would you like a glass of hot tea before you sleep?” Adelie asked me as soon as I walked back into the living room as if she had been waiting there for me.
“No, I’m fine,” I replied to her.
“Uhm… Boss asked me to massage your foot, waist, and head for you. He mentioned that your foot would be tired after the whole day of being on the bed, and your waist too. The head massage is for your injury so it won’t hurt your head,” She explained to me, and I scoffed in disbelief. Miles is surely getting weirder every damn day and it’s getting me even more confused.
“I’m not a professional masseur, but I’ll do my best,” She further said, and I briefly sighed.
“You don’t have to worry, Adelie. You should also rest. I’m going to my room,” I replied to her and was about to leave when she spoke up again.
“Boss insisted that I do it for you, and he is going to get mad at me if I don’t do it,” She stated, and I bit my lip.
“Alright. You can come,” I had to give up playing stubborn since she wasn’t going to give up.
“I’ll join you shortly, ma’am,” She said to me, and I headed to my room first.
On my way to my room, I got a text on my phone, so I paused and checked it.
‘I asked Adelie to give you a massage, wife. Enjoy yourself and sleep well. Call me if you need anything’ I read through the message and seconds later, I felt my cheeks hurt that was when it dawned on me that I’d been smiling as I read the text over and over again. Why did I find this so romantic even though it was unlike him?
I shrugged the thoughts off and walked inside my room.
Minutes after I settled on the bed, Adelie came to my room with a few bottles of oil which I assumed to be what she was going to use to massage me.
“Is this your profession?” I was forced to ask her, seeing that she had the complete uniform those people use. Even though I’ve never gotten a massage from a masseur before, I’ve seen them a couple of times on the TV and I remembered very well their dress code.
“Partially my profession. I was learning it before I stopped,” She replied to me as she set the bottles on the center table which she pulled close to the bed after she took permission from me.
“Wow!” I mouthed surprisingly.
“Ma’am, your dress…” She paused and demonstrated with her hand for me to strip.
“I need to strip naked?” I asked her, but she quickly shook her head.
“No, ma’am. You need to wear a towel on the lower part of your body,” She replied to me, and I nodded. I did as she said, and she soon began work.
“So, tell me… What kind of a man is your boss?” I had no idea why I asked that kind of question out of the blue moon, but I should really know more about Mr. Miles, right?
A dead silence played in the atmosphere and just when I wasn’t expecting anything from her, she finally spoke up.
“I’m sorry, ma’am… But I’m not allowed to say anything personal about Mr. Miles to anyone. Forgive me,” She said to me politely, taking me by surprise. Wait! Is that how loyal she is to Miles?
“But I’m his wife. Have you forgotten that?” I reminded her even though I hated to say that.
“I know, ma’am. But I think you should ask him by yourself. I am only loyal to my boss,” She replied to me, and I mouthed an ‘oh’…
